I haven't seen to many problems with ammo cans. We found one recently at a cito that was a cache that had been muggled and moved and later archived. The can had been missing for about three years and was found mostly buried in the mud but the contents were still dry and in pretty good shape. There were a couple of suckers in the cache that were mostly dissolved so there must have been some moisture in the can, but the log book was dry.

First of all, I believe that the 150 ft. rule is more of a guideline, and probably a *minimum". Depending on the RR a review might require explicit permission from the RR company if that cache is some distance greater than 150 ft. You'll probably find exceptions to the 150 ft. guideline, but I suspect that, today, you'd probably have to demonstrate that there is a significant physical barrier between the RR tracks and the cache *and* get explicit permission from the RR company. One of the first caches I tried to place was actually in a frequently used town park that was accessible by driving across some infrequently used RR tracks (twice a day) into a parking lot. The small park was at the edge of a local lake and it's theoretically possible to approach it by boat. When I submitted the listing the cache location was about 130' from the tracks and even though there was a physical barrier (the parking lot) between the tracks and the cache the reviewer asked for explicit permission both from the RR company *and* the town park manager. I could have moved it closer to the waters edge (and further from the tracks) but never pursued the issue. In reality, I seriously doubt that the cache would ever have caused a problem, but I understand that a reviewer ought to bend over backwards to make absolutely sure that a cache place "close" to RR tracks won't jeopardize the game. I don't think you should have needed the RR companies permission (park manager's, yes) if the cache was not on their property. By having a rail crossing they are already giving you permission to cross the tracks. You can cross tracks by car/bike if it is a proper rail crossing. A reviewer should not disallow a cache because you have to cross tracks to get to it if it is a proper, legal rail crossing. The town I grew up in had tracks through the middle of it and most of the crossing are on grade and they include pedestrian / sidewalk crossings. If you couldn't have a cache where you might cross tracks, half the town would be off limits.

If it's still within 150 it's still trespassing. Not necessarily. Most railroads do not own all the land within 150 feet of the track. I know of one located only 25 +/- feet from an active railroad track on City property. There is a fence between the cache and the tracks making it safe to visit.

I like multicaches , hard to reach caches and some puzzles, but I don't like the puzzles that take me hours to figure out or only have a photo and no explanation. I also don't like the puzzles that seam to require some insiders knowledge. These seam to be placed for specific friends to find and not the general public. I have never had the attention span to spend a long period of time on a puzzle. I have asked my wife to help on some and if it is taking her too long (or so I think) I tell her to give up and we will go find another cache.

I help with a scout troop and in May 2010 we bought two Garmin Rino 120's but no one knew how to use them so I took one home to read the instructions. In the instructions was brief information about geocaching. I went to the website listed and the rest is history, much to the chagrin of my wife.

It's like Christmas morning to me, opening the boxes. Well at least opening the boxes when you know whats in them.

I had a similar experience with a archived cache but it turned out that the cache I found was a replacement cache by another cacher who had not contacted the CO. The sad part is that the cache was from 2001 and was the oldest cache in our area. It was archived after just a few months above being temporarily disabled. The CO lived a few hours away from the cache location and didn't get to it fast enough for the reviewer. To make the story a little more interesting (at least to me) is that a few weeks ago we had a CITO in the park that the cache was located in and we found the original cache mostly buried in the mud not far from the original location. The log had a taunting (but harmless) message from the non-cacher who found it and moved it from the original location. It had been archived and "missing" for about 2-1/2 years.The contents were in good shape. I would love to get the cache un-archived and replaced (I took the cache out to keep it safe) but I am not sure our reviewer will go for it. The original cache owner is still active and willing to work with me to get it un-archived.

Looking for a Symbology Geocoin. Being fairly new to caching and geocoins I am not sure when they came out. I just found one in a cache and would like to get one.

I received a small shock while trying to find a cache at a light pole. I had lifted the skirt and was reaching under the base plate when I was shocked. It was less powerful then an electric fence, but it still surprised me.

What are the fourth row middle and right coins? I really like the scouting themed coins.

The only one I have gotten into trouble with is my Wife.

I wouldn't care as long as they either mentioned in the description one is near by or that they weren't posting / sharing the photos. On that note, I am off to add to the description of one of my caches that there is security cameras at the cache location.

Roundhouse Restoration Inc (RRINC) is doing another geocoin in connection with this years Evanston Roundhouse Centennial Celebration. The Centennial Celebration is in conjunction with Rocky Mountain Power, which is also celebrating there Centennial this year. They donated a large (to us) sum of money to help complete the restoration of one of the buildings on the railyards site and also are helping to sponsor the Centennial Celebration so we put them one side of this years coin. For any who missed it, we did a coin in 2011 and there are still some available (shameless plug).

I doubt this was your case, but I heard (and have not confirmed) that the military can have some of the satellites in an area they are training shut down which can effect gps devices. I was told this by a surveyor that had a crew in a remote area not able to work for a day because their gps equipment stopped working. The next day it was working again and they could continue on.

After going to this site I searched four of the Nation Forests in my state and only one had a written policy. This happened to be a very favorable policy not requiring a permit. It did restrict cache locations with the following statement "Geocaching is not allowed in designated wilderness areas or in any other designated area such as national scenic areas, wild and scenic river corridors, or historic or scenic trails. Geocaching is not allowed within areas designated as national historic landmarks, sites, or pre-historic sites." There was additional information but this was the meat of the policy.

I would be willing to take on a second team? Or I can recruit a non-caching friend? (I would "pay" his fee)

I have 13 less then a mile. My statistics are a little mess having moved about two hundred miles from my home town since I started caching and changed my "home" location. I am looking forward to getting a cache 1000+ miles away in a few weeks when I go to Maryland for a conference for work. I will definitely be making some time to go caching!

I don't always log a DNF if I didn't spend much time looking or it was after dark or in bad weather. I will also not log one if I plan on looking again soon. But if i looked a second time or if I really looked hard for the cache and didn't find it I will log a DNF.
