Yes it was done with out drilling I welded a hasp to the outside wrong person, oh well -
Agreed - I've seen .1 mile as a suggestion before but that is too generic for a lot of scenarios. Let good judgment and the situation dictate the distance. Will have to agree with 9key and StarBrand on this one there has been eight caches blown up by different bomb squads in Tennessee out of those five were under or near bridges, so yes we use an arbitrary distance of 500 feet for all highway bridges, dams, government buildings, elementary and secondary schools, and airports. Yes, this may have been a knee jerk retraction at first but none have been blown up for well over a year now, so it must be working in saving tax payer dollars, bad press for the game, and the cachers that was spotted there that warranted someone else calling the police. Other areas may have not had the problems with this as Tennessee and those reviewers may be more willing to allow one closer, or push it up to a couple of miles. Remember the distance is arbitrary for a reason. Just like real estate Location , Location, Location does count, ask your local reviewer for each area ( that is one of the many reasons we have local reviewers ask them ) , do not assume that the distance is 500 feet Max Cacher

Attended a Letterboxing Event this pass weekend, Atlas Quest was said to be the easiest site to use, this quote is from their presenters “”Basic Letterboxing & Etiquette and Definitions booklet”” The quote : “ Do not ask the authorities about a letterbox if you cannot find it. While the placer should get permission to plant a letterbox before hand most letterboxers work under the theory that planting a letterbox is okay until they are told otherwise. In such a case not only will the authorities be unable to help you, they may instead confiscate the letterbox! “ Does that sound familiar, The largest park system in Tennessee sent a request to Atlas Quest telling them that a permit was required for placing a letterbox in there parks. One letterboxer has gotten permits the others have not and the park department has been removing the ones that do not. Seems to be an instant approving site, there are three letterboxes in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, when those are found by the park officials it has to knock us back one more step in placing caches there. Working on my fifth year as a volunteer cache reviewer was the last one brought onboard by the old method ( slipped in through the cracks ) if I can remember correctly was number 13. When volunteer moderators were added in August 2003, took on the Benchmark, and South / Southeast forums was not surprised was already here and available Like Moose Mob, Buy me a beer and will tell you stories until you beg me to stop, but only in general terms of course Max Cacher and the fat guy

Road Right of Way is misunderstood in Tennessee, in almost all cases someone owns the land and a right of way has been given // taken for “Services” like sewer, water line, electric, phone, cable lines, roads, ect.. No where is the right of way contracts does it allow for a geocache. Its up to whom ever owns the land Max Cacher Geocaching.com Volunteer Cache Reviewer // Moderator
