  1. I'm currently working a geocache into a LARP (live action roleplaying). The GPS is essentially a magical device that the players will use to find locations. It's a multi-cache with different challenges at each waypoint. More about the game system here: http://db.ifgs.org
  2. I like team lightfoot's avatar, but we also like ours. It's Fang, the Frozen Piranha. There is a story behind it...too long to tell here. But needless to say it involved a real piranha, that was really frozen. Gladius & Kiplynn Caching since '01
  3. I just ordered a compact flash gps card...primarily for use in the car, since we have a Garmin for caching...but I use Mapopolis to get us close to the cache, then the garmin to find it. And having all of the nearby caches via a pocketquery in the Axim is nice...no wasted paper either. I'll report back after I get the GPS card on its performance. Gladius & Kiplynn Caching since '01
  4. I see a lot of Dell Axim users out there. Figured we could create a thread to talk about GPS/Caching related topics. First thing I wanted to bring up was the CacheDragon program. I DL'ed it and it runs the first time after I install it. If I try to run it again, it never loads. Realizing it's Beta software, and the authore responded to me that a new version would be out (but that was two weeks ago, and still no update). I'm wondering if anyone has actually gotten it to work on their Axim? Other apps that I have found that work well are GPXview and of course the pocket queries for premium members. Used that last weekend for a trip to southern colorado. Gladius & Kiplynn Caching since '01
  5. I too have the Dell Axim. I used it the last two weekends to go caching. I DL'ed the pocket queries in GPX format from geocaching.com and used GPXView and Mapopolis to get close to the cache. Then used our Garmin Venture to find them. I just ordered a CF card GPS unit from eBay...I'll report back here when I get it and try it out. Mapopolis is awesome - can't wait to use it in my car with route finding and autorouting features. Cachedragon looks like a good app (see handango.com) but the current beta version will only work once on my Axim. I wrote the author and he says he will be releasing a new version soon. Anyone else try it?
  6. I think the problem with the proxy bidding on eBay is that (and I say this as a newbie, since what you described happened to me when I bid on my first eBay item - a compact flash GPS card for my Dell Axim). I posted a bid on something, and because my bid was lower than the proxy bid of someone else, it IMMEDIATELY told me I was outbid. So I raised my bid (as rayt333 mentioned) because I don't have ANY idea how much the other guy bid. As soon as I submit my new bid I got the same message saying I was outbid. So really it's not the newbie's fault - it's the eBay system. It only shows you the first bid, and lets you know that you have been outbid, but it doesn't show you the new high bid. So it makes sense that you would rebid, in an attempt to get the item. It seems silly.
