  3. I think I am ready to participate in my first mission. Please count me in! 1. Participating: Nov 12 2. Received Name: 3. Mission Sent: 4. Mission Received:
  4. I brought this up one time before and someone mentioned a solution that I really like. Instead of two different categories, all we really need is a new attribute (or two). Then you could separate out the caches that you like from the caches you don't want using a PQ. It wouldn't be too hard to implement that way either.
  5. I purchased a coin from him last month with no problems. I know that doesn't help your situation though, sorry. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.
  6. My first cache was Real American Heroes (GC1J2EB). It sure helps when your first cache is an ammo can hidden right in the middle of town! There's something about thinking, "Hey, I've gone by here dozens of times and never noticed that!" that leads to, "I wonder what else is out there!".
  7. Thanks to the generosity of a forum member, I am now the proud owner of a No L mystery coin! Thank you!
  8. I am wondering if some of you who have been to previous Geocoinfests would be willing to share your experiences with me. I have never been to a Geocoinfest, but will be attending this year as it is so close to home. Are these events like any other geocaching event, but on a larger scale? Or are there differences due to the focus on geocoins? m I going to be missing out on anything because I don't have many geocoins in my collection yet? I'd be interested in hearing just about anything that you are willing to share!
  9. Since I'm still relatively new to this, my list of dreams is not nearly as intimidating as some that I see here. When you only have 20 coins, almost everything is sought after! 1. Police Box Tardis geocoin 2. Spacegate 3. The Federation 4. 5th Anniversary Compass Rose (Any version) 5. Any Mystery coin
  10. Wow, these are great! I would love to find something like this in a cache! The only problem would be figuring out how to trade up or trade even...
  11. It's still not the change that I have been hoping for. Why can't they just make challenge caches their own category (like multis or virtuals)? This would allow those of us who don't want to do challenges to filter them out. It's not that I don't like some of the challenges, it's just that the majority of the challenges in my area are in "Challenge Alley" which is along a stretch of 65 MPH highway. There's no way that I want to stop along there with my kids to look for a cache, so I try to ignore them. It would be a whole lot easier to ignore them if I could filter on them...
  12. I'm 40 but my kids that go with me are 9, 12 and 14. You will find that as you get older, age will matter less and less. We teach our children age segregation all through school (can't talk to him, he's just a FRESHMAN!) and then when we release them into the working world, they are amazed that they have to work with people of all different ages, backgrounds and skill levels. At an event at least you have a guaranteed common interest. Next time, walk up to an "older" cacher, introduce yourself and then ask what their favorite cache is. Odds are, you will still be chatting by the time the event shuts down!
  13. I love geocaching and that it encourages me to spend more time with my daughters. It has also introduced me to many new friends. Finally, it is a great reason to go out and get some exercise. What's not to love?
  14. Fairly new to the geocoin addiction. Thought that I would share a couple of my Christmas purchases for myself. 2011 Compass Rose and Marvelous Nature.
  15. I am working on an idea that I am going to submit. As I have never designed a geocoin before, I expect to get readily shown up by the experienced designers out there, but figure it would be fun to submit the idea anyhow!
  16. I'm fairly new to this and I've never been involved in a mission before, but i like the creative idea for this. I'd be interested!
  17. What a great gesture! I made myself ineligible for this with my Christmas purchases for myself, but I wanted to say how nice it is anyways!
  18. I remember how I started really well, because it wasn't that long ago! After having had the pleasure of moving a couple of coins from cache to cache, I decided that I wanted one that I could keep on me and use to track my personal mileage between caches. I saw the Utah National Parks Council Centennial geocoin for the BSA and really liked the design and also the fact that it celebrated the Boy Scouts' Anniversary. After picking it up, I started seeing other coins that I just had to have!
  19. I would like to adopt a coin as my young daughter loves to receive logs and see where my TBs have been. This would be "her" coin to keep an eye on. Thanks for the chance!
  20. Some days, I am more of a newbie and some days less. All depends upon the day!
  21. Play some GPS games, like capture the flag. Give each team a GPS and a flag. Send them in opposite directions to go hide their flag and mark the coordinates. Both teams return to base, swap GPS units and head out to find the rival team's flag. First team back to base with their opponent's flag wins!
  22. The first time I heard of geocaching was probably 4 years ago. My wife was running an overnighter for a group of young Scouts and when she got home, she told me about a funny thing that had happened during the camp. A group of guys came through the area with their GPS units and said that they were looking for a geocache. They looked for a while and eventually gave up and left. Soon after, a group of Scouts comes running out of the woods announcing that they found it! My wife, being a letterboxer herself, explained that the boys needed to go put it back exactly where they had found it. i still don't know if those guys ever came back to make the find! Fast forward to last year and I'm sitting around, playing with my iPhone and I come across the geocaching app. I try the free version and go find my first cache. A week later, I upgrade to the paid version. Two weeks after that, I go buy a Garmin 60CSx. Now I wonder if sometimes my wife wishes she had never told me that story!
  23. Let's see, I get a good amount of use out of (in order): - PQ's / GPX files - email notifications - Bookmark lists - Favorite votes - Cache along a route (if I traveled long distances more by car, this would get used more) - map filters I don't use: - Custom Searches/Results Sorting - Statistics - Off topic forum
  24. I have a log book for puzzle caches. It's just a spiral bound notebook but I use it to work on puzzles and keep track of those that I have solved but haven't had time to go find yet.
