  1. I have four Garmin auto units. The 3790T is the newest and the nicest with the best display (by far) of them all.
  2. So, I'm trying to learn Basecamp and I figured out how to build mapsets, but where can you see the actual number of selected tiles? I know there's a "gas guage" type bar on the right showing how full the card is, but that's not the limit on the 60CSx. The number of tiles (2025 max) is the limiting feature. The old Mapsource program showed you how many tiles you currently had selected AND the file size. So, is there anywhere in Basecamp to see the number of tiles selected? Also, when you import a map you've previously created, how/where can you see the tiles that were selected? I ask because I cannot fit all of TOPO US 2008 into one map file. I need to see where I left off from the previous map so I can start highlighting the area right next to it. I did all this before easily in Mapsource and I HOPE I can do the same things in Basecamp. Thanks in advance...
  3. The FAA should smack the crap out of the FCC over this if it goes too far. GPS and air approach safety alone is enough reason alone to shred Lightsquared.
  4. Cheat Clyde? Never even used his product, but I do love my 60CSx.
  5. Amount of effort? It's nothing to uninstall and reinstall. Don't even usually have to reboot.
  6. Uninstall it and reinstall. See if it resets the counter. I do this with a lot of "free" programs that either do stuff like this or lock you out completely after 30 days or whatever.
  7. I wonder if one can uninstall it, reboot and then reinstall a fresh download to "reset" the nag screen counter...
  8. Please explain. Was this a model versus specific model thread? Nope... If the 60CSx was the "Ford", per se...then what was the "Chevy"? This thread was about someone who complained about a "gold standard" GPS unit that so many love and continue to use to this day because it was a "pain to program".
  9. Yeah, if you set it up right, it is definitely useable on the road. You can have a large text box pop up (with turn arrow) as you get close to the turn. You can set it to autozoom (or not) and I don't even have that choice on my high end Nuvi. Not having a dedicated car cradle can be a pain, but it fits in a center cup holder, which has a rubberized lining, so it doesn't slide around too much and I can easily see it. I don't run the latest and greatest CN NA map...usually two or three revisions back until I get around to "finding" another newer copy. Not ideal, but it works.

  11. You did NOT mention that important little tidbit until this post. This is geocaching site, first and foremost...not an automotive GPS one... Go somewhere else for that as there are better resources. Have your kid show you how to do a Google search. You said in your FIRST post it was "a pain to program". Go back and read what YOU wrote. Had to add... Glad to see everyone else reiterating the same points I made in this post. I didn't read all the new posts before posting this one.
  12. Actually, it will navigate you just as accurately as the newest Nuvi with the latest update since it uses the exact same City Navigator map. It's the interface that's severely lacking. All you get is beeps and boops indicating when to turn as there's (obviously) no voice function. And, the small screen and lack of touch capability really kills it for car navigation, but it WILL work. In fact, I take my 60CSx as a back up to my 3790T on long trips. I've navigated with the 60CSx just to see how it would work on the road and it isn't fun, but it's more than doable with a recent version of City Navigator NA.
  13. Absolutely well stated! Bravo! Yup. That was a serious suggestion since it was "too hard" for him. Let the kid figure it out. At least they'd know how to do an on-line search and learn how to use it even though it is NOT hard to use in the first place.
  14. Hey, it's your problem... The 60CSx is/was the one of the very most popular (and beloved) handheld geocaching GPS units of all time. It was not "too hard" for a great many people to use. Again, sorry it was a "pain" and "worthless for directions" (your words, by the way...) for you.
  15. Well, if a 60CSx was "too hard" for you, then give the next one to the kid and let him figure it out.
  16. Only works if they still have them in stock, as the 60CSx has been discontinued for quite a while now. I'm betting they don't (or won't for long) and whatever surplus is left is already out on shelves somewhere...

  18. Well, you said it, so I won't... And, while "nice to know type info", you do not need maps to simply find a cache. Just follow the arrow and watch the distance tick down. Use your eyes to see what's up ahead and don't rely on a topo map on some tiny screen. Deviate around obstacles, if required, and get back on track (follow arrow again) once clear. Figure out another way to maneuver your vehicle to where you're going to park and proceed on foot. A dedicated road nav device like a Nuvi is the most logical solution. They're cheap these days, ya know...and come with maps...
  19. Yeah, it will probably be discontinued by then and you'll be able to pick one up for $200 or less. Mark my words...
  20. That's what I'm waiting for... They'll get there eventually... And, if the bugs are too much to deal with? Back it goes... And, I'll still have my trusty, dusty 60CSx...
  21. Nope, no fault in my process. Where did I ever say it was a single step evolution? Nowhere... You said (post #24, I believe) that a mag compass would not point to a cache without a calculator. That is what I called you on and where you went wrong. This ENTIRE thread was about using an electronic compass with a GPS. Then, for some reason, you went off the reservation thinking discussion had somehow shifted to GPS-less mag compass use. WRONG.
  22. Yup, you were wrong. No "appearing to guess" about it. Sorry spending two seconds spinning bearing on a compass dial is a PITA for you. I'd hate to see what happens next time you get a flat tire. Hello? AAA (or insert "rescue" roadside service of whatever flavor)?
