  1. And, this goes along with automotive nav units, too. Many people don't really like their Garmins, but have a purchased lifetime map update subscription. If Garmin would let them transfer that to a new unit then, just maybe, they'd be heavily influenced to purchase another Garmin. But, if they can't take their maps with them? There's no incentive to buy another Garmin.
  2. Will those maps on the 62s not work on the Oregon?
  3. That's why I just got a Montana. It's awesome.
  4. Yes, absolutely! You need to have the correct battery type set so the charge indicator with display properly. I just went through this with my brand new Montana 600 I just received yesterday. I switched back and forth between the Eneloops (Ni-Mh) and the included battery pack (lithium). The charge indicator was WAY off with the fully charged Eneloops because I forgot to switch the battery type back to Ni-Mh.
  5. Use good rechargeable batteries like Sanyo Eneloops and rotate sets. Problem solved. Even my 60CSx, which is known for long battery life, will die after 20 hours or so, which is only two good days in the field for me...or what you'd call a weekend...
  6. BS from companies like this is EXACTLY why I, um, "find" maps on-line and download them for free. They work perfectly.
  7. If you think that's funny... Here in Arizona, highways are depicted as AZ-XX. AZ-69 is a major highway leading into Prescott. "Australian Karen" seductively pronounces it as "Highway a** sixtey-nine".
  8. Ah, I see... You should be able to just check the boxes for the languages/voices you want and they'll be loaded.
  9. What "screen"? Web updated is an application you download and install from Garmin. You run it with your unit plugged in via USB.
  10. You should be able to run the regular web updater and it will offer you those voices. I run the web updater as a stand-alone application on my computer and don't go through myGarmin, dashboard, etc...
  11. That's a shame. The 60CSx is basically bulletproof. I know mine is. I'd like to know what the OP did to "break" his.
  12. You actually do 5000+ caches in a single coast-to-coast trip? At any rate, after reading all this, looks like even more reasons to hang on to my old 60CSx...
  13. Perhaps, but more people are going to want an Oregon, especially at a much lower price, than a 62sc...
  14. Good luck with Oregon 450s brand new out there going for well under $300 (Amazon).
  15. You might want to ask over on the gpsreview.net forum. There's a moderator there named Boyd and he's VERY knowledgeable on the Montana. He's very helpful and active over there, so you should get a quick response.
  16. Really? Current Magellans are poo. Hope the place you ordered it from has a good return policy.
  17. If you buy a Montana, or other Garmin handhelds, I'm pretty sure you'll need to buy any routable maps for it. BINGO. And, you'll need mounting hardware to effectively use it in a car.
  18. I've tried that before with mixed results. I read about an issue (mine has it) where maps would often not load from the micro SD card unless they were actually created on the card with it in the unit. So, I just do it this way every time since I know it works.
  19. Looks to be that way here, as well. Just finished up a map transfer (God, that's SLOW) from Mapsource to my 60CSx. No issues noted.
  20. Just got a reply from a Garmin tech at the Garmin forums. Said to install Mapsource as the NEWER Basecamp cannot do this, but they're adding that capability. Yeah, right... I'm still waiting for the "update" to allow the 3790T to accept routes created on the computer...
  21. Well, that sucks. I did, indeed, start a thread on the Garmin forums about it. And, you're right about Mapinstall. That's the utility Basecamp starts up when you right click on your memory card and select "install maps". You get to a page where you can highlight (and see) the individual tiles, but there is NO tally of the total number, which is a PITA. I liked Mapsource because, when you imported a .gbd map file, it showed you all the highlight tiles so you knew where to start when making the next map set over. I should have never uninstalled Mapsource. Ah, I guess I can get Mapsource back. I have TOPO US 2008 on DVD so I can reinstall it. Hope it doesn't jack up or otherwise conflict with Basecamp...
