  1. Totally! Especially when everyone KNOWS Garmin can make a quality case but, for some reason, chose not to do so this time. My 60CSx is rock solid and I can't recall ever reading any complaints about the case. I've never read about any complaints with the Oregon or Dakota cases, either. You'd think Garmin would have paid closer attention to this after the fiasco with the battery cover/gasket not sealing right on the now defunct Colorados.
  2. Then rename your .img file. I have CNNA, Canadian and US Topo files loaded with different .img files on an 8Gb card + internal memory. Well almost, I am about 1 Gb short of storing everything so I cut some of the Topo segments before loading. That is exactly what I do. See post #50, last post on the first page where I FIRST asked about this. How about fully READING before jumping into something, hmmm? My beef was that there is NO way to SELECT a separate .img on the unit itself. Capice? So, three pages and over 130 posts and YOU are the only one to complain, huh? Whatevah, dood...
  3. As an owner of several Nuvis, they are GREAT for the car, but I can't think of a WORSE unit for outdoors/caching type use. Sure, it can "work", but...
  4. Whatever. Uh, yeah, I have experienced this. One of the funniest things I've ever seen was my aircrewman covered in soda pop and chips because the plastic 2 liter bottles and bags of chips in the aft cabin, bought at the exchange (much lower elevation/altitude), blew when flying our Seahawk helicopter over the Italian Aps. The muffled "explosions" sounded like compressor stalls at first.
  5. arguably true, but the point is rather that this is not a "bug" as the OP claims, as bugs are present in software and could thus be fixed by a firmware upgrade. if anything, it's a design flaw of the hardware itself. I know. Never said it was a bug. It, quite apparently, is closely related to a flimsy, squeaky and, presumably, crappy case design (hardware) and, quite OBVIOUSLY, cannot be fixed with a firmware update.
  6. Huh? "Sucked in"? You mean PUSHED IN from higher atmospheric pressure outside the case. Simple... Just build the things close to sea level and not on top of Mt. Everest, which would basically amount to building them with a vacuum inside the case. As for below sea level destinations, it's not exactly like people are imploding in Death Valley...or the shores of the Dead Sea in Israel, the lowest place on earth not underwater. The pressure changes are so minuscule that humans can't even detect it, much less having buttons on a GPS "sucked in". Before anyone even tries to make the comparison, this is not the same thing as having to account for pressure changes in something like, oh say...a DIVE watch...
  7. Lots of people reporting it having a cheap creaky/squeaky case, which is a shame if this is to be an "improvement" on the 60CSx. That one's built like a brick s**t house. I think I'll wait on this one.
  8. No. It shouldn't be an issue if the pressure transducer is PROPERLY ISOLATED from anything other than atmospheric pressure. My 60CSx, yet again, remains rock solid in this arena. Squeezing the case, pushing lightly on the holes in the back over the transducer, etc. Altitude doesn't change...just as it SHOULD be...
  9. No you don't. I missed the "advanced" button on my first install and it only updated the GPS. I didn't have it connected when I ran the download again and hit "advanced" to update the computer/MapSource only.
  10. Nope. I'm running an 8gb card with right around 6gb of map data on it. No problems. Yes, it is SLOW. That's why I went ahead and "build" every map I wanted and keep them as separate .img files all on the same SD card. MUCH quicker to simply rename the desired map to gmapsupp.img so it will be the active map on the next reboot. The only thing that sucks is you need a computer or some other eternal device to access the files directly on the SD card to rename the file. Because of this, I keep a separate SD card with the latest version of City Navigator North America on it as I intend to use the 60CSx as a road navigator backup if my Nuvi ever croaks. Because if/when it does, I KNOW I'll be on the road and not have a computer with me and I can just manually swap the cards. It fits perfectly on top of the silver loading gate below the batteries with a small piece of folded paper towel wedged in so it doesn't sound like a maraca.
  11. Have you updated all the firmware? Reports from another forum say that accuracy and sensitivity were improved with these updates. There are claims of it being even MORE accurate than the 60CSx, which has always been the gold standard for handheld GPS reception.
  12. There's always one in every crowd, isn't there? Which phone?
  13. Well, you got lucky then. Perhaps Garmin took pity on you since you only had the CO for such a short time and they knew they were going to abandon that line anyway. Your experience is definitely NOT the norm.
  14. About $80 for the lifetime update subscription. It ONLY works for one unit, though, but you get every single update as they come out for "free" after the initial purchase for the "lifetime" of THAT unit. If it breaks/dies/croaks...sorry. That subscription is done. Even if you buy another exact same unit. Many have issues with this (myself included), but it's the best deal going right now for Garmin map updates.
  15. I think the 200 series "budget" Nuvis came out AFTER I bought my 660. I did pay over $700 for that bitch, though. But, she's been a good, reliable unit for going on four years now.
  16. Yeah, way to compare some of the most disposable personal electronic devices on the market to something that is supposed to be RUGGED...like an outdoor use GPS unit. Are, by and large, cell phones shock proof? Water resistant? NOPE. Can you drop the average cell phone in a stream and still expect it to work? NOPE. Should we expect these basic things from a handheld outdoor use GPS? YES.
  17. Map updates are usually not a link - you need to go to MyGarmin to update. https://my.garmin.com/ Yup. I read about the update on another forum, plugged in my Nuvi via USB and went to my MyGarmin account. Clicked on "Manage Maps" and it shows a blue "update available" button next to a picture of my unit. Got two more to update after this one! The process seems to be moving along much more quickly than before...
  18. For those interested in updating their Nuvis or street routing capable handhelds, the newest Garmin 2011.20 City Navigator North America update is out. Updating my ancient Nuvi 660 right now. Hope it works!
  19. Mine squeaks too. Amazing Garmin screwed that up when they had it in the BAG with the 60CSx case design. Mine feels like a brick s**t house...very solid. Guess they "forgot" how to build a quality case?
  20. Apparently, Garmin didn't think so. That's why they bailed on it. Why else would they? It was just easier (less costly) to move in another direction...
  21. I'll bet that was a big part of it. The bad design of the battery cover, allowing it to leak. Also, a LOT of people didn't like the rock-n-roller interface, either. Can't really fix those things without recalling them all and I'm pretty sure Garmin wasn't going to do that. It was just easier and more feasible to create an entirely new GPS line, aka the Oregon, and basically abandon the Colorado. Imagine how many pissed off consumers they'd have if they magically release a much better, "new and improved" Colorado right after everyone ran out and bought one because it was the latest and greatest. And even MORE consumers that might hold off (like myself) on buying the "latest and greatest" because a major non-firmware fixable update might just be right around the corner. iPhone syndrome...
  22. You had to have someone else tell you how to press/hold a single button and turn (i.e. "disable") it off? Even that was in the stupid next-to-nothing "instruction manual" pamphlet that came with my 60CSx...
  23. I have 2/3rds of the US Topo, plus the City Navigator maps for the entire Continental US (including POIs) on a 2GB card. 1,797.3MB in just 300 segments. I could get all the US Topo, if I just bumped up to a 4GB card. Here's how I did it. Dinner is served! I looked at the instructions. I'll "eat" after all that stuff works...when I get around to it.
