  2. Definitely ticks and mosquito's... Saw a moose once but they are not that dangerous
  3. Haha, reminds me of my most discusting find I was climbing down a cliff near a castle in Latvia. When I came down there were a group of fishermans stairing strangly at me (like it was the first time they saw a 23 year old Dutch guy climbing down an cliff ). They saw me walking in the direction of the little cave where the cache was hidden. Once I entered I heard them laughing out loud and I already felt really unconfortable. I found out they took a dump in that cave and that I was dancing in their sh*t... Not cool, well, at least I found the cache My girlfriend laughed her a** of after I climbed the cliff up again. Poop in sandals is by the way extremely dirty
  4. Hello, I'm using the same GPS and I get the coordinates on the following way: Switch on GPS before you are at the cacheplace. Go to the screen where you can see 5 fields with information. Press on the left side of the GPS on the 3th bottom from above (the one most down). Change fields --> Lat/Lon. Walk to the cacheplace and wait there for some time. Mark your found coordinates in you GPS. Walk away from the spot and walk back to it with the GPS finding your coordinates. Point Zero? Very nice, Meters off? Do the trick again! Simple as that Have fun hiding it!!
  5. Because they call themselves Geocachers. I am a Geocacher and I don't want to be associated with that kind of lowball standard - that's why I care. So you are not only geocaching for yourself, but you also worry about what others do? I'm a geocacher too but I really don't care if my neighboor-geocacher logs find he didn't find... It is up to the CO to delete them! Obviously you compare yourself with those 'lowball standard'.
  6. Couldn't agree more! If people want to cheat, then let them... I (and with me many many others) like the adventure of finding a cache. The numbers are for myself, not to show off Why are there still so many people who worries about what others do? As long as they don't destroy caches I'm ok with cheating
  7. Tell them about an very cool cache you found somewhere. One of the caches I (did not) found (it was lost) was in an old Russian nuclear missile base in Latvia. My friends all responded extremely positive, because what is cooler then coming on places you would otherwise never come. It is all about how you bring it. If you tell that girlscouts are doing it all the time you will get a negative reaction. Tell them the awesome sides of taking the adventure! Greats from Netherlands and Latvia
  8. Be confident and don't look suspicious. If you think a cache is there, just go for it... Most people wouldnt even notice you
  9. I think you really should introduce it to your friends. There reactions might be more positive than you think. I even convinced my little brother to go geocaching with me, and a group of friend I forced to pass by some geocaches next to the water with our boat. Everybody has that little piece of treasurehunting excitement, just trigger it in the right way and tell them about 'the treasures' that might be in the cache. Believe me, there are way more geeky things in life. With all due respect, I have a collegue who leaves work directly when he get's a message of a special bird spotted somewhere in Netherland... Just saying
  10. my girl choose it as username sibce she used it for herself several years. I have no idea what it means but actualy I don't care. Always better then my own (excist out of the initials of me and my ex) hahaha...
  11. one tip, don't expect anything of it. Then it will only be super when it succeed Today I set my first TB out on a travel. I hope both our bugs will succeed in their goals and travels!
  12. I guess are government/companies have to give us more days off to go on a holiday Stimilating the circulation of TB's around the world
  13. Trust me, I'm Dutch and I still like it to find TB's and coins... I even bought three today to set on a trail Just have fun with them and if you don't want to put them in a cache anymore then don't... Don't see the point here
  14. If I grab a TB or Coins and I don't move it for more then three weeks then I totally understand the owner if he sends me a reminder... Sugarcoat it with sweet words?! You know that if you grab a bug/coin that it is owned by somebody else... I had one in my posession for too long and I wrote a mail to the TB owner with my apologies. Two mails within 24 hr is a little bit too much, but asking if the person in question would pass it along, that totally normal to me... Anyway (as a relatively newbie) I really like to read the others oppinions...
  15. I really like making mysteriecaches, they offer the other cachers a challenge and brings them to places they didn't expect! So far only possitive responses (even on my mysterie urban frontgarden cache )
  16. What a coincident I have kind of the same question, only I want to load a microsoft paint picture from my own directory to my cache site... Anybody has a idea about how to do that? Internet didn't help me so much with that Thanks already
  17. We used my Nokia E72 for the first geocache but it was absolutely not accurate... After that we decided to but a GPS unit with a small budget... I can really recomment the Garmin Etrex! Less then 100 dollar, and till now always within 2 meters off the 0 point!! I like it very much as a start GPS
  18. I don't understand why people are getting so upset about the place some caches are located. I agree some places are just not what you expected from it... But there were also places in the city (Holland = lot of cities) which I really enjoyed! Don't complain so much and enjoy the sport... If you don't want to do citycaches, then just don't...
  19. It took some days with my cache too... Just be patient, it will come online and you will still have a lot of joy from it
  20. I hunt all all the sizes but I think the location is the most important.also the amount of effort you have to put in to find a cache is important. An easy grab is not a big satisfaction. A well hide, hard to grab cache is way morefun. The size of the cache has to be perfect for the location. (city: micro, forest: small or bigger)
  21. In the meantime, please look at it again: the final waypoint for the mystery needs to loaded into the waypoints tool, not text in a note and pay attention to typing numbers - There's a very large difference between WEST 23 and EAST 23 and there's a large difference between N75 and N57 Ah thanks, I kept on wondering what I did wrong with the coordinates 23 West putted me in the atlantic ocean Thanks for the critics, I will take it with me when I'm placing more caches in the future... I putted the final coordinates in the waypoint tool but I did not make it visible for persons... Do I have to do this or do I have to show it? I guess reviewer can see the hided waypoint too right?
  22. Hello fellow cachers, I placed my first geocache 4 days ago on a nice place, but I am really wondering when it gets reviewed and when it will be listed as a mysterycache? The location is Latvia, close to my girlfriends home and I'm pretty excited about this cache... Can anyone help me out with this one? P.S. Are there any cachers here from Latvia or The Hague (Holland)?
  23. And how will it cost them to review (ok that depends on the cache) but how many request do they have or do they review on a day? Just curious because I hide my first cache today (mysterie-cache) Thanks!! Greetings Nowilly
