  1. On my 400T the altimeter goes crazy...when I sit in the same place for 1 hour and I look at the Elevation Plot - Total Ascent value is rising every minute , after one hour the total ascent value is ~ 70 m and I didn't make a move.

Iis it any chance to see the real total ascent value when I go hiking for 10 hours? not 400-500 meters more than the real value?

    Thanks.

  2. - you don't have a map with elevation data ( topo ) - it won't show you the profile if you have City Navigator

    - your CX must be updated ( only units updated after July 2007 will have this feature )

The profile of the track/route is based on a map data, not by the GPS reading.

I have v2.90 dated 2-19-08, but I suspect you mean DEM data, not contours. DEM data would require Topo 2008. I have Above the Timber's Topos. While their maps are derived from USGS elevation data, that data is not embedded in the file/maps.

Does that explain things? Perhaps you could post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

    Thanks

I don't know what DEM data means....I have an official Garmin map ( topo & road routing details included ) and I will post a screenshot few hours later.

Give me your email address on PM to send the screenshot...this is an Oregon topic.

  3. Please review your Legend path. I tried this on my Venture Cx and from "Saved Tracks" pressing Menu said "No Options".

    Thanks

The path is correct , it says "no option" on saved tracks or routes, because :

    - you don't have a map with elevation data ( topo ) - it won't show you the profile if you have City Navigator

    - your CX must be updated ( only units updated after July 2007 will have this feature )

    Good luck

  4. Thanks for replies.

In my country ( Romania ) local map is a topographic map that include roads, urban area etc..... and I can see a route or a saved track with profile in my Legend HCX ( like elevation plot in GPSr with altimeter ) . This profile is based on a topographic data on map...not on GPS reading.

For example : on Etrex Legend HCX go to saved tracks - menu - profile - and will show you the track with elevation profile. ( if you have a topo map )

I'm wondering if the Oregon 200 have this feature.

  5. I'm going to buy an Oregon 200 which doesn't have a barometric altimeter.

Do you know if this model displays elevation plot like the Oregon 300 or 400t?..or is it any chance to view the track profile like Etrex Legend CX or similar models without barometric altimeter.

    Thanks in advance

  6. In a nutshell, download POILoader (free from Garmin), and use it to install gpx and csv files into Garmin units that support customized POIs. POILoader will read and install all gpx and csv files from a given folder; so, move out any files you don't want to download. To open the file in the GPS, go to your menu (same place as waypoints) and look for "Customized Points of Interest".

So, do you need GSAK to edit and save the waypoings as gpx files or is it sufficient to build the files in EasyGPS and then load those files with the poi loader?

You can edit .gpx file with Mapsource and save, then open it with GSAK with %hint at description and generate , after that you can upload gpx files with POI Loader.

You will need GSAK for more characters at the waypoint description
