  1. Make sure you have Cellular Data, Roaming, 3G/4G/LTE all off. Some teeny bits of data may still push through, this happened to me. But only kb's worth and my phone company reversed the charges after I explained to them I had all 3 options off the whole time. It's much trickier to cache offline so be prepared for that. The compass isn't a reliable and can be a bit wacky. You definitely need some patience with offline caching . When you save them offline it doesn't save all photos, only like two. You sound like you're good to go though! Have fun!! Thanks for the info!!
  2. So, I've been reading the forums about using the app sans data in other countries and I JUST want to be sure that I have the gist of what to do: 1. Save the caches I want to do to my offline list. 2. Turn off data on my phone 3. Cache away. Is there any more information I need to know? I am a premium member, and I noticed that there was a perk of using google maps in international areas with premium. Does this come into play with offline use? Just wondering. Thanks for any tips you can provide! I leave tomorrow
  3. I just got back from a trip to Bali/Flores/Komodo and geocached using my iPhone. I used wifi every chance I could and added the geocaches to my "saved" list. Someone else I know (who wasn't geocaching) unlocked their iPhone and bought a simcard upon arrival in Denpasar with unlimited data plan for $30/30 days. I highly recommend the app CityMaps2Go (free) which allows you to download maps onto your iPhone for everywhere. Another suggestion I have is to bring a piece of paper with a description of what geocaching is in Indonesian (you can find an Indonesian "so you found this geocache" page on the Hide a Cache page). We found many people didn't understand what we were doing, and many of the caches in Bali require you to ask someone to get it for them (such as Holy Springs Temple in Ubud). We nearly got arrested in Jakarta because a security guard thought we were "taking" something...and there was no description inside the cache to describe to him what we were doing. Have fun!!! Thank you so much! I am thinking of getting a pocket pay as you go wifi to supplement my phone, too. Just downloaded CityMaps2Go... awesome! And I'll definitely print out the geocaching info, too. Don't want to go to an Indonesian jail, thank you very much! Thanks for the great tips!
  4. Hello! I currently use the Geocaching App on my iPhone to find caches, and I will be visiting Bali this summer without a data plan (too expensive). I would like to purchase a GPS to accomplish this, but I'm unsure how to go about doing so, since I'm an actual handheld GPS N00B. Can anyone recommend an easy-to-read GPS and instruct me as to how to load a map of Bali and/or find caches without my lovely little iphone app? Thanks in advance for your help!
  5. When navigating in map view, tap the little flag icon at the top-right to enter custom coordinates.
  6. Hello! I use the iPhone geocacache app and I LOVE it. I once used a regular GPS when I travelled abroad, and it was really interesting how much less fun it was using it - I had a garmin and it was a pain in the butt to use. Anyway, I'm not really in the market for another handheld GPS, but I lately I have been having trouble figuring out how to find multi-caches with the iPhone app. I may be missing something, but the iPhone app only gives the first cords. Then, as I figure out the next cords from clues, I have no where in the app to place them. I tried to use my Maps app to add the chords (didn't work) and other apps I downloaded on the fly to see if they would allow me to add cords. A lot of them do, but I can't seem to navigate to the location. SO - my question is, how those of you who use the iPhone app find subsequent caches in multi-caches? Is there a supplemental app that I should be using? Please help Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the tips everyone! I just remembered that I ordered a Where 2 GPS for my rental car - I THINK I may be able to use that for geocaching, too! Do you think? I am definitely going to look into a REAL GPS anyway - just because I travel a lot and this will probably come up again! Kenas - I'm still wet behind the ears with regards to queries, so I'm not sure how that would work. Do you have more information on how I can do that?
  8. Hello! I'm going to Costa Rica in a few days and it just occurred to me that I would LOVE to grab some international caches while there! However, I won't have data or wifi, and I currently use the Geocache App for iPhone. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can accomplish this? Does the app have a setting that will allow me to use it without data? Is there a different app that will suit me better? Should I purchase a GPS instead? If so, what is a good but inexpensive one to buy? Thank you for your help!! DijitalDharma
