  1. ive had the same problems ie... additional hints (decrypt) not decrypting and if you click on "logged visits" and view "logbook" a new window appears rather than just scrolling down to see the logs as before on the main page. after seeing the logs you can click the back button and only view the previous page (what if you want to view more than 10), if you want to return to the main page of the listing and click the cache name to the right of icon, it opens a new window? eventually you will have lots of boxes (open pages)on your toolbar. maybe it's my version of internet explorer, but i did visit the link and tested it and seems my version is ok? my oppopogiles if ive posted a reply to this topic and it's the wrong one. 10 minutes ago i saw a thread but can't remember where. kind regards jim (jsh01) ps... ive just edited this page after reading the posts above and the page is viewing ok now. pity Groundspeak didn't publish the solution to the problem. again it's down to the pc savvy cachers to help out. thanks a bunch all of you. cheers jim
  2. hello Ed (huskyrat) sorry to see that you are having the same problem as i did when trying to list a new cache. everything you say happened when to me when i tried to "hide a cache" don't know whether other people are having the same problem? regards jim (jsh01) ps... tried to add comment to ed's post above but made a mess of it
  3. thanks to you all for your replies and very glad i can submit a new cache the old way. must be my old grey matter not working the same and old age creeping in. cheers don j for pasting the new "submit a new cache listing" as a jpeg and showing us all where we can be re-directed to the old page, thanks a million. kind regards jim (jsh01)
  4. thanks everyone for your reply, much appreciated. i think i'll just have to bookmark the "old page" and then continue placing caches via the old link. kind regards and a big cheers to all. jim (jsh01)
  5. hello max and 99 sorry if you found my comment a wee bit skew. the thing is tonight i tried to log a "hide a cache" Groundspeak has changed the way we report a new listing. before it was easy enough to prepair a listing and enter the co-ordinates and all the other details before placing the cache, so that it would be placed under "your unpublished caches" when i went into my "quick view" and then my profile appeared. the problem is that geocaching.com has made an error in the sequence of prompts to get you to the next level in trying to get to "hide a cache". max please try and log a new "hide a cache". before i would have an idea and prep the proposed cache page and just enter any co-ordinates, this way it would be saved under "quick view" "your profile" and unpublished caches and it would appear this way. i can't do this now, even if i tried the prompts on the site are all mish mashed up. maybe i'm not getting something. kind regards jim
  6. ive only posted a few times on the forum, sorry to all you cachers thats more experienced than myself. tonight UK time i tried to "hide a cache" without much sucess, anyway i have pasted my comment below, sent to Groundspeak. maybe it's me? i don't know. if anyone is having problems please post or if you have found the new precedure to "hide a cache" ok, or tell me please where i'm going wrong. cheers jim (jsh01) (try changing the comment below to italic etc...., does not work for me, not my best day ) sorry to write, but i have just tried to "hide a cache" and when i get to the country and region ie..and select UK and northern scotland, it's then rejected and asks for a coordinates (no prompt boxes for this action) please return to the original "hide and cache page" instructions. this error message comes up without an option to correct this. it's just to much. prompt appears "confirm coordinates on map" prompt does not work. on that page all your asking is for "location" when i enter this it comes back an error "PLEASE CORRECT THE FOLLOWING ISSUES" please enter a location and please confirm the coordinates of the map? there is no dialogue box for this. why don't you just leave it in it's original form? a case of Groundspeak complicating everything. what will happen is that cachers will just get fed up with your gliche and not post a new cache. kind regards and hope you can point me in the right direction. jim (jsh01)
  7. hello can anyone help please. i have an android phone, ALCATEL one touch 990 thru O2 here in the UK. I have downloaded the geocaching app. when i open the app on my phone and click on the log in bar i get the message "unable to connect with the server. no network is available" a satelite icon appears on my bar (shows it's searching) and this knocks of my internet. ive already purchased the neongeo app and that does the same? i have to power down the phone and turn it on so it re-boots and then i can get an internet connection. it's probably something very simple to sort. grateful if anyone can help. regards jim (jsh01)
  8. many great replies, as i'm in the UK we are not allowed to use fire tacks. instead i have used "fire tapes" with velcro fastenings. they can be attached to branches. unfortunatly they can be only attached to small branches as they are only 5 inches long. http://www.firetacks.com/webcart.php?cat_id=2& regards jim (jsh01)
  9. great to see the various opinions on QR codes and how they may be applied to a cache listing. i can only speak about my listing GC3C6D7 (now listed). there was a problem with mine. the 1st QR i placed was on a circular lampost and difficulty reading it with a smartphone, i think it was placing it on curved surface (ive done some maintenace and it's now ok) anyway ive always tried to place caches with a difference and hopefully i have done this (done many mistakes along the way, but always learning). kind regards and cheers jim (jsh01)
  10. thanks gpx spinner. iam waiting on a micro key holder for the cache. if it arrives in the post in the morning, i'll set it up sunday and have it ready and enabled for the reviewer. with it being a new type of cache i will just have to keep my fingers crossed (i don't think there will be a problem) kind regards jim, dundee, scotland. ps the QR code above gives a co-ordinate and hint "5m above ground *********" ive taken out co-ord and *********
  11. i'm in the process of creating a new listing for this type of cache. came across these QR codes some time ago on billboards, cereal packets etc.... hopefully it will get published within the next 3-4 days, GC3C6D7. the listing iam submitting is under "unknown cache" and creating stages myself. on my cache listing page is the usual co-ordinates, this is the start point. i have included a jpeg of a QR CODE on the cache page. to get the hint you have to scan it with your smartphone, go to the listed co-ords and find the QR code placed somewhere near the start. the cacher would then have to scan it to get the co-ordinates and clue to finding the next code and so until finding the "cache box" i did a search on "play" and "hide and seek a cache" and searched by "cache name" and entered QR and came up with only 11 results worldwide (iam sure theres more under a different name) some have been placed 2010. some can be seen at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=qr&submit4=Go i don't know what geocachers think of this new type of cache? but i have a feeling that it will catch on? kind regards jim (jsh01) ps sorry don't know how i posted 2 up. great eh... i understand QR codes but still can't post on a forum DOH.....
  12. sorry posted twice, james
  13. i did the same thing as you. ive just emailed contact@geocaching.com to see if they could send me a code. i don't know if i will get one. regards james
