  1. I see there's also a "st". Anyone know what the t means?
  2. I'd like to add a GPS to my wedding registry. I want it to have high accuracy, be paperless, and able to see descriptions and everything from the unit. A plus if there's a way to mark a cache as found, but that's not as important as accuracy. Maps are a definite plus, too. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  3. Oh - and will I need a premium membership? And I see some reviews say it doesn't come with maps. What will I see/not see then?
  4. With the cord, will it show other things (the title, GC number, description, or any of that)????
  5. Hey guys - Can you load the cache information into the Garmin Geko 201? What is needed to do that? Thanks. Also... the reviews on this seem to be pretty decent (3.5/5) -- Have you tried this one and would you recommend it?
  6. Hey there - I don't have a handheld GPS, just a couple of car ones that allow inputting coords. So, just this last week I got a Nuvi 1200 because it was mislisted on Amazon and thus I got 3 (2 for gifts for friends who get lost while driving) for $34 including shipping. Anyway, being that it had a dedicated off-road/pedestrian mode, I thought it might be easier than my TomTom to use for Geocahing. I'm not sure I'm correct on that... but I am still getting used to the differences. It doesn't seem to show me how far I am from the destination. Am I just missing it on the screen or looking in the wrong place? I seem to still have to go to the screen that shows my exat coords and just walk to match those up. Is there any settings I should be using to see those things? Thanks.
  7. There's "Rite In The Rain", which is a "weatherproof" coated paper. The version I have is laser-printable, but a rollerball pen doesn't write on it well. And a plastic "Adventure Paper" called Teslin or Tyvex, which you can print with an inkjet, but pencil marks are very faint on that. But both stand up well in the wild, so I use scraps of either kind as emergency log sheets. Wow never knew there was such a thing as waterproof paper!! That is pretty cool. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks for the answers, everyone. It does seem pretty obvious to me that it needs maintence, but I wasn't sure if the NM notes and icon were used for this circumstance in practice as it wasn't marked that way yet. Oh, and I just re-read the first response. Waterproof logs were mentioned. What are those made of then??
  9. I visited a cache today that is completely out of space on both sides of the log. People are signing along the edges and space for that is getting slim, too. I don't event think there is a way someone could put a 2nd log in because it was such a challenge getting with one out of the teenie container as it is. I mentioned Most of this in my found it log, as have several others. Is a filled log a "needs maintence" issue? As I came here to post this, I see that someone else just got chewed out by a cache owner for reporting a wet log. So, is it typically looked at as an insult or something to receive a NM entry?? Oh, and on the topic of logs: after signing that one, I couldn't help but wonder... What typically is done with logs that are filled up?? Do cache owners keep them? Edit: changed "the" to "a"
  10. this has to be some kind of inside joke!! Gets me curious...
  11. Thanks for the response and the advice about the bead-link chain. That is what it comes with. (It doesn't seem to be a Cachekinz, but same concept of having a chain like that.) And, for the "discover only" bit-- What do you mean? If you see it, you log it? Or do you take a picture with it and then log it? Or...??
  12. What's the difference between these two? I'm a little confused. I received a GeoCoin (fresh out of the package -- not one that someone else started) at an event and it has a little key chain on it. Can I attach it to an item if I wanted to? Or can is that only for Travel Bugs? Oh, and I saw an election sign that someone told me was a travel bug... and saw reference to another Travel Bug that was really someone's car. What do you do with those sorts of things? How does that work? (The travel bug attached to a small item that you put into a cache is pretty self-explanatory... but I don't really "get" what you do with these other things...)
  13. There was one container I found that was partly chewed through. At first I just marked it found and noted the condition in the log. A couple days later, I wondered if that was right and set a "Needs Maintenance" because I don't know if the cache owner would have seen my comment nestled in with the rest of my Find Log. Now I'm wondering: which is right? And, is a cache that is just a little bit nibbled through considered at the "needs maintenance" stage? If a note is sent when a cache isn't yet "a problem", is this a nuisance to the hider? Or, is it better to err with caution? (I understand that individual opinions may differ... but perhaps there is some sort of general consensus or a rule of what is and what isn't...)
  14. You guys have been so helpful! Thank you... now in response to this comment in particular: Should I let the owner know that the cache was plainly visible due to color when I found it? Is that a customary thing to mention? I would think that if several people say something like that, then it may be a clue that the hiding spot is possible not as "stable" as intended or something (the natural coverings move more or animals are more curious or whatever..) If a message IS sent, should it just be part of a "Found It" log or something else?
  15. Or you might consider the CITO - Cache in Trash Out. We carry (and use) a litter picker and rubbish bag and it goes with us as we Cache. We do good, we avoid the allegations of Geo-Littering and no one bothers us. The litter bag almost is the perfect cover for grubbing around the undergrowth. I do this one, too! I feel more likely to not worry that other people are watching... cuz if I look like I have a reason to be reaching inside a bush or whatever then I don't have to feel nervous that others are going to be a nuisance. And, I love the idea someone posted earlier about the camera! I think I'm going to have to try that... great for so many reasons!
  16. I was more thinking Nano-sized caches, but I do see what you mean about the other parts of this! Thanks.
  17. I'm really new to this (like 2 weeks) and I've been wondering about this: There has been a time or two that I found a cache that looked like it was really supposed to be hidden a little better. Should I place it back exactly as I found it?? Or should I hide it better when putting it back? Here is what I mean: I found one cache inside a "hollow" part of a tree. When I found it, you could clearly see the white container (regular size.) When I put it back, I put it in the same part of the tree, but made sure it was in a spot that wasn't immediately visible. (I'm talking moved over 2 inches.) Another was inside a downed hollow tree. There were obviously pieces of bark there used to cover this container. When I went to find the cache, you again could see the white of the container, but just a small bit. When I hid I, I placed the bark so that the full container was covered. I figured that either the container or the bark moved after the person before me returned it (ie it shifted a bit) or the person just didn't hide it as well as it was supposed to... but I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong in that thinking. What is the "etiquette" here???
  18. I just started GeoCaching a couple weeks ago... and I'm having tons of fun with it. So, now, every time I go by a cool area (or really any area), I can't help but think, "Hmmm... there probably are some cool GeoCaches HERE! I've gotta check!" Well, I went to Six Flags Great America and before heading out, checked the site here to see how many there were. It doesn't seem that they are any in the park. I went on to attempt to Search Walt Disney World as well (just for the fun of it) and there only seem to be "virtual" ones that came up. Why is that?? It seems that there could be some really cool hiding places at both of these... and that searching them out would make a great addition to a day at the park.
