  1. Thanks BDT...... I appreciate it. Mike
  2. I notice that there is a large data base of benchmarks on the GC website. My curiosity has me asking: Are these all found and logged by cachers or have they been pulled from government data? The reason I ask is that I was doing a search for benchmarks in a very small town in Oklahoma and noticed that there were about 8 bm's around. Some were way out in the country, and I dont think they would have been found there by a geocacher, unless they were told coods on where to look. Thanks for any info you can give. MKH
  3. that pretty good.... can you put team at the top and henson at the bottom? Thanks for all your efforts
  4. I too have been looking to create an avatar for my family team. With our family surname. I am looking to have a Sun with maybe a Hen inside it. Possibly using the GC colors. Thus our name.....Henson (corny I know, but thats what my kids came up with!) Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. my current screeename is cad-guy (I am a CAD Draftsman) Living in Arkansas Using a garmin Legend Any other ideas would also be welcome. Thanks
  5. Oh My Goodness!!!! thats one of those small links I never noticed. Guess I need to be more observant. Thanks for all of the replies. MKH
  6. I have a suggestion for the website. Possibly this has been discussed, but did not see it anywhere. What about a link to get zipcodes for towns? I am preparing to travel a bit, and have to leave the GC site to find zip codes. Just a suggestion. Please note that I am not a programmer and don't know much about web site stuff. Not sure how difficult a task this would be. THanks for listening!
  7. I am realtively new at geocaching, and am right now just looking for caches locally, but I can see how a person might want to travel to get some caches. I am curious, how far have you traveled from home, just to get a cache. I don't mean you happen to be on vacation, and start looking, but really just how far to get a FTF or a travel bug or something. Just curious
  8. I am planning on driving from Arkansas to New Mexico in the future, and would like to pick up some geocaches along the way. Is there a way to search a route, and then list the geocaches within say 10 miles of the route? Anybody know the best way to do this? Just a thought.
  9. Actually.... I was just thinking about getting the travel bug's pictures at as many Methodist churches as I could.
  10. I know that in traditional caches, we are asked not to place religious items in the cache. What about a travel bug visiting different churches. What do ya'll think? Not going inside or anything, but just getting pictures with the church sign or something like that. Do ya think that would be ok?
  11. This may be redundant, but couldn't find it anywhere so here I go: when I search by zip code, and select all waypoints for download, then go to page 2 and select all of those as well, they are the only ones that actually download. How do I get more than 1 page of points to download to a single loc file. Thanks for any help you can give me.
  12. Makes sense to me. I appreciate everyone help here in the forums. Its a great place for support! Mike
  13. just to sum up, heres what I think: get a good bearing on the cache using the arrow until I am about 20-30' away. After that, start using the numeric distance from the cache to make sure I am going in the correct direction. Within 10 feet or so, start looking. Does that sound about right to everyone? Mike
  14. if I get within, say 25 feet, what if I just stop and set the gps down in the open. WIll the arrow catch up?
  15. when using the garmin legend, I notice that while moving the direction arrow works great, but as you slow down, it seems to get jumpy. Is that how yours works? Anyway, lets say I am close to a geocache. Should I stop and let the arrow point me in the right direction, or do I keep going, get close and then start looking for the cache? Just curious on how others do it. Any help you guys can give me will be greatly apprecitated.
  16. my question is about my garmin legend. I have had a couple of caches where I am watching my compass arrow, and the distance to may waypoint. I am a little comfused because as I move towards my waypoint, the distance to the waypoint gets smaller and smaller (which is to be expected) but my arrow is pointing 180 deg from this point. What would cause this?
  17. the only "control" over the data I have is in an excel spreadsheet, so I can arrange columns any way I want. If I could see the order that the file needs to be in for the csv format I could just do that, but I guess I don't get how to use the software. My colums are: "description, lat, long", and thats all I have. I guess I'm too hard headed to figure it out. Mike
  18. I downloaded gpsbabel and it looks quite powerful. I can't tell how to get to program to recognzize the format of my csv. Mike
  19. that link didn't work. Will it do what I requested? Mike
  20. I am needing to upload a list of waypoints. They are currently in a csv format. "point, lat, long" For some reason, I was thinking that I could use Easygps to import them and then export to my garmin etrex. It looks like the garmin only reads loc or gpx files. How can I get this csv file up to my garmin? ANy help will be greatly apreciated. cad-guy
  21. that did it.........I didn't have the correct protocol set. Thanks for everyone's help.
