  1. got it....thanks for the warning. The first thing I was going to do was come up w/ a way to put the scout law on it! No kidding! With the scouts, most of the phrases and images you see are copyrighted. We have to come up w/ a way to portray scouting w/o using copyright material. From what the scout office says, you CAN use copyrighted material for district wide fundraising, but not for the local troop. I'd welcome any ideas! We are a small troop. Any amount of dollars will be welcome that we make. I realize it wont be a huge fundraiser. I think I can get the boys involved in the artwork, and packaging/mailing if we decide to do this.
  2. Greetings everyone.... my scout troop had the idea of creating a coin for the purpose of fundraising to go to summer camp. I know there are licensing issues with the BSA and I have already been in touch with an official coin maker that has a BSA license. Also been in touch with the local scout office and seem to have their blessing. My question is: would the folks here in the forum be up for purchasing a coin to help out some boy scouts? Where else would be a good place to try to sell coins? I have seen quite a few on ebay, but I don't have a feel for how good they sell there. I'd like to come up with a coin that would still pull a profit selling at 8-10 dollar each. We would probably only be able to make 200 or so because of cost. Hopefully we would have a great design that would generate interest. Sorry for rambling. cad-guy
  3. I would love to get the contact. Just send me an email.
  4. I was visiting with some members of my boy scout troop, and we started hashing out ideas for fundraisers. One of the boys is a geocacher (as am I) and mentioned geocoins. More particular, have some minted and sell them online such as ebay or on here. At one time, coins were a pretty hot item, but am not sure about now. I have no idea about what kind of expense we are talking about. I know that the cost of the coins is based on type of metal, number of colors etc. I'm just curious if anybody on here has a good feel it this might be a good idea or not. Also, I know that the Boy Scouts have licensing issues, using their art and logos, so it would have to be more of a generic boy scout image other than their normal logo. Anyway...enough rambling. I'd be interested in hearing others thoughts on this.

  17. I had been using google earth to spot caches and to plan my route. I used to be able to look in G.E. and the GCXXXX number would display beside the cache.
