  1. I have Colorado.... Pros: Just about everything... quick satelite synch time, easy to navigate since you can customize most of what you want. Easily mark found or DNF's. Cons: I wanted to throw it in the trash at first due to all the different software freezes and glitches. After about the 3rd update they put out, that made it A+! Although you still have to adjust the backlight everytime you turn it on. Just my 2 cents.
  2. I couldnt find anything in the manual that says it does but there are some random posts on different forums that says it does. Here is a link to the manual: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/NVU73T_83T_EN.pdf But I wouldn't guess using something like this would work great for geocaching. Most vehicle units are not the greatest since they are built for streets mainly. For instance, I use a garmin nuvi to see what caches are around where I am driving and when I get close to one I switch to my handheld and head out to it. Hope this helps!
  3. thanks for that link! I might check that out this summer. Wish there was a little more concentration of geocaches around the park. Any nearby areas with camping anyone knows of or somewhere else in north jersey that has a huge cache concentration around some good ole camping?
  4. That was me listing that. They are hard to find. They are made overseas for large scale action figures and sets. The reason they are so hard to find is because they are not sold individually. Sometimes companies will get the sets and break them down and part them out. That's about the only time you can get them and that is rare. The "G" logo is something i add to them myself.
  5. My first hide was a smaller cache. Not quite a nano but not a tupperware. Personally, I would have liked it to be a bigger container but all in all it's in an interesting spot so still makes me happy. And actually it has lasted longer than any of my others so far too.
  6. I always like seeing the logs especially from the cool and hard hides. Lately I have noticed some logs as simple as : ) and that's it. I almost scratch my head and wonder did that person really go there? Did they really find it? I was even thinking about possibly putting something in the description like: "Minimum 5 word requirement for logging or your log will be deleted" I probably wouldnt put it on there though but it was just a thought.
  7. log into your geocaching.com account and click your profile. scroll down and on the right hand side you will see a d/l for google earth plugin.
  8. Found it: http://www.geocities.com/pageocachers/trails/philly.html Also, if you click on one of the caches there are bookmarks for the loops on the right side there.
  9. let me see if i can find the link but there are a ton of geocaching "loops" in philly for just that.
  10. wow i did not know of these places up there. I might have to take a weekend hiking trip and see if there is any good places to camp for a night or 2 up there this summer.
  11. yeah those are the same thing i just emailed you a pic of. I have about a dozen of them. I have to agree with the previous posters though on not being to waterproof. If you are going to use them i would recommend putting in rite in the rain paper logs or honestly just use a cryo tube. Only slightly larger and they are completely watertight and virtually indestructible.
  12. i might have some of those laying around. pm me your email and i will shoot you a pic of them and see if it is what you want.
  13. bottom right of the post there is an edit link. it's next to the quote and reply.
  14. False, gives me the heebie jeebies. Next one likes to cache at night? TRUE or FALSE
  15. There is a virus already out there floating on usb drives. Here's a little snippet from a site: "One of the ways by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Pen drives. Common viruses such as ’Ravmon’ , ‘New Folder.exe’, ‘Orkut is banned’ etc are spreading through USB drives. Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. " It actually can infect any portable drive easily. Ones you insert an infected drive the autorun pops onto the host computer and implants itself and scans for more portable drives. Once you plug another one in it hops to that and just keeps going and going. While I haven't heard of it causing any problems to a computer yet but I'm sure it could lead to something. A few months back I read somewhere about this running pretty bad throughout a college campus and I cant remember which one it was but it was one of the big ones! I also work as an IT tech along with my geocaching business but have yet to run into this virus anywhere but it is out there. I do love this idea and i even thought about sending one out myself. I have a thumb drive that is a mini delorme pn-40 but i dont think i could part with it! I spoke to a former IT guy I know. He told me the same thing. All someone has to do is include a line of code to activate the moment the USB drive is connected (and gets power from your PC) and it can autorun/download a virus BEFORE you are able to scan it for such. It's not being paranoid, it's being smart.
  16. a gpx file holds the coordinates for the caches and some other info. A jpg is just a graphic file. just doesnt work. GSAK is definately your best bet for converting into different file types but jpg would not be something anything would be able to do. It's just 2 total different types of information in those kinds of files. In GSAK there is a feature to save as html with images. I'm not sure if the Dare can read html files loaded on it or not but if it does you could just do that. Export to HTML and copy to a SD card and open in your phone like a web page.
  17. Congratulations and welcome to the fun!
  18. You're not squeezing these out like you should be. You're close, butt you've left some behind. Doo you want to get cheeky? I wouldn't want to see the cache log on those! I'm trying to restrain myself. I know if I get on a roll with this topic, I'm liable to be banished from the forums. I know my limits and am trying very hard to behave. It is not easy, I'm telling you! lol...roll....hehe

    100% FAIL

this might help you: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=68770 Most of them, manually you just have to mark your waypoint and then go in and edit that waypoint with the correct coords.
  20. LOL....yeah but you can't help but to think about the faces on people when they pull that out of the cavity. Not saying I would do it but man, the faces and the logs would have to be histerical.
  21. definately sound like some places to put a fake pooh cache. Man imagine those faces.
  22. It sounds to me like a cryo tube. They're 2ml. By the way, welcome to the fun!
  23. There is a special lid that you can add on for under $10 that will make them water tight, well at least as long as the previous finder doesn't get the seal too dirty. Gamma seal lid. It has an o-ring around it that seals it to the 5 gallon bucket, it also has a center piece that unscrews and also has a seal in it.
