  1. Check this "Virtual GPS Cable" out with three short video's. http://www.mvs.net/index.html Our invention, called Virtual Cable™ is a unique display for a car navigation system. The driver sees the Virtual Cable™ image through the windshield. It appears as if suspended over the road, similar to a trolley cable. The image is in true 3D and appears to be a natural part of the landscape. The driver uses only peripheral vision to follow the Virtual Cable™. The Virtual Cable™ is so powerful, intuitive, unambiguous and safe because it appears and behaves with true 3 dimensionality within the landscape.
  2. Magellan Strikes Again!!! If you have read about the neat things the Magellan Triton GPS will do, do not expect too much too soon. Someone has said they received their Triton with no cables to connect to a computer. I tried to order the National Geographic TOPO maps, and I can not even get the maps. SHIP TO PRODUCT NUMBER/ (SEE QUANTITY UNIT DESCRIPTION BELOW) ORDERED PRICE STATUS 20518 1 1 99.95 BACKORDERED TOPO! GEORGIA, ALABAMA, FLORIDA It is like buying a new car with no gas available to drive it.
  3. For any of you wanting to buy a Magellan Triton 2000 or other new unit, you can buy the following 4 GB memory card at a good price today and tomorrow on-line with no shipping cost. SanDisk 4GB Standard SDHC Card SDK SDSDB4096A11 $27.99 I think this is the correct one for the Triton. ********************** I think this is the Circit City Link, but can not confirm since Circuit City's Web site is down for update. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/home.do?Key...amp;SESSIONLINK
  4. The Magellan WEb site now allows you to download the new VantagePoint software that I think can be used with the old explorist GPS Units and the new Triton. I have not yet looked at it. https://www.magellangps.com/products/map.as...amp;PRODID=1903
  5. Below is an answer I received from someone at National Geographic answering my questions about what Maps will work with the Magellan Triton GPS units and what some of the differences are in the different mapping Software they sell. I have ordered a new Magellan Triton 2000 GPS and want to order some of the NG Software Maps. I have ordered the: 20518 TOPO! Georgia, Alabama, Florida ########################### Thanks for your interest. Answers below, but none of the ones you ask about will transfer maps to the Triton at this time. We hope in future all our software will work this way, but for now it's just the state TOPO! that you have ordered and Weekend Explorer, which is the same as TOPO! just with smaller coverage areas that will work with triton. Info: Can you please help me understand the differences in the following National Geographic Mapping Software? Other Software that will not yet work with the Triton: ************************* Question A: 20118 National Geographic Back Roads Explorer CD-ROM (18 CDs). Answer A: This is a national product at 1:100,000 scale, our map level 4. The most detailed maps are 1:24,000, our level 5, which is what you get in the state product. ************************* Question B: 1023000 National Geographic National Parks Explorer 3D Mapping Software Answer B: This has digital version of our Trails Illustrated maps for 25 national parks. These maps have more recreational information than USGS maps, including the most complete and up-to-date trail network. ************************* Question C: 1023022 Southern Appalachian Mountains Explorer 3D (what part of the Smoky Mountains is in this one and how does it differ from buying the: 20531 TOPO! North Carolina, South Carolina Answer C: This also has Trails Illustrated maps, in this case contiguous coverage along the mountains. So the maps are better in terms of having trail information than the USGS maps in our state product, but the coverage is much more limited and as stated above, we haven't yet enabled data transfer with Triton. ************************* At some point I expect all our software will be fully Triton compatible, but we have been scrambling to finish the interface with the state series which is our best selling line. We are very excited about the tritons -- especially the 2000! Let me know if any of this is unclear. Eric
  6. National Geographic Maps and Magellan have teamed up to bring you the first GPS for the outdoor market that can import National Geographic TOPO! maps from either TOPO! or Weekend Explorer 3D. New Web Page: http://natgeomaps.com/category/TOPO%21%20f...d=183&tid=3 Using TOPO! and Weekend Explorer 3D with your Triton is easy — clip out high-resolution 1:100,000 or 1:24,000 scale maps from the software, along with routes and waypoints, and export them to the Magellan Triton series of handhelds. Maps are viewable in full color at multiple zoom levels on the Triton units. With TOPO! or Weekend Explorer 3D & Triton you can: Get seamless USGS maps to view on your Triton Tell your GPS where you want to go by transferring waypoints and routes between the software and your GPS* Customize maps for your GPS with trails, symbols and text Store an unlimited number of waypoints Discover new places to go by searching TOPO!’s USA PlaceFinder for waypoints Generate elevation profiles Print photo-quality maps with GPS grids Receive map and software updates online with Live Map Update ************************************** I am still not sure what is in the TOPO for one state and what is in the Weekend Explorer 3D. Does anyone know what the differences are?

  9. http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/news.asp?ID=739 Finally some real pictures and hands on experience: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=95156 I may replace my Explorist 600.
  10. Today I read many posts about the 2007 Magellan explorist 600 Firmware 2.57. I spent a hour trying to find it and download it and so far can not find it. The Magellan site looks like it will only work for the explorist 500 EU. My explorist 600 NA Serial Number would not work. I bought my explorist 600 the first week they came out and used it for a year then it collected dust. I now have more time to use it and want this update. Does anyone know where I can get this update? steameng1@cox.net
  11. Hi, I had problems with my Explorist 300 Weather Screen where the pressure was 36 and the gauge pointer was not showing. The Altimeter reading seem to change each time I went back to the Weather Scrren and showed -6544 most of the time. When I called Magellan Service, they had me perform a couple resets and then said to send it back. I got a new Explorist 300 unit in about 10 days and it seems to work fine. I compare with my Explorist 600 and there is always some differences. I like the eXplorist 600 color screen, so do not used the explorist 300 much. It sounds like you have a bad unit.
  12. HI, I bought an Explorist 300 in Jan 05 and still do not have the $50 rebate. I got it on ebay fionr a company in TExas called: REDZUCO.com I have sent them many email notes and Faxed the documents I snet them in Jan. Still waiting.
  13. I finally received my Magellan - Cigarette Lighter Power Adapter #730387 for my eXplorist 600. I have enclosed a picture of the unit, back of the card it was attached to, and the connector. I have to use my original power cable with it to have it connect to the eXplorist.
  14. I have a explorist 300 that I have used since Feb 04 and like it. The weather and altimeter did not work correctly. I called up and tried a reset, but still no luck. I get a new 300 in about 10 days. It seems to work fine. I now have a explorist 600 also and the color and functions make the 300 seem like an antique GPS Unit. Teh extra Mapsend 3D has all the streets and names and make it really nice.
  15. Here is a replacement Generic Battery on Ebay for the eXplorist 500/600: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&category=94874&item=5772894284&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Starting bid of $.50 + $6.00 Shipping. Anyone tried it yet?
  16. The Magellan Service guy had me reset my eXplorist 300 and clear all memory. It di dnot help - still the pressure was 37.41 and the altitude on the Weather Screen was -6,389 ft. If I set the Altitude to 90 ft, it would change to 90 ft, but would return to -6,89 ft if I went to another screen and back to the Weather Screen. I will send it back to them tomorrow to be fixed.
  17. I just set the altitude to 90 ft on both units siting on my desk. The Model 300 reads: 75 Degrees, Falling, 37.86, 92 Ft The Model 600 reads: 84 Degrees, Rising, 29.62, 84 Ft The insde house temperature is 74 degrees, but both units were sitting on my DSL Modem so they should be hotter. The Weather Channel says the Pressure is 30.10 and Falling in my city. My Model 300 just changed to "Steady" from Falling
  18. Magellan finally put the large eXplorist 600 Manual on their Web PAge: https://www.magellangps.com/assets/manuals/...orist600_EN.pdf 116 Pages
  19. The weather outside today was raining and wet . I turned on both eXplorist 300 and 600 units and saw a big difference in what the readings were. My Model = 300 600 House Temperature 71 79 74 Pressure 37.71 29.41 29.91 Pointer None Line Weather Steady Falling Rain The House Temp was from the thermostat and the House Pressure was from the Weather Channel for my town. I guess I will call Magellan and ask why and is that normal. I did not reset the Pressure Altimeter, so I did not expect it to be good. Anyone else see resonable readings or wrong readings?
  20. I loaded my first Mapsend Topo 3D Map into my eXplorist 600 SD Card tonight after just following the steps in the manual on page 87. It took about 15 minutes and everthing worked fine. It took about 6 minutes to up-load a 28 meg map that covered most of Florida and parts of southern Georiga with all POIs. It is very similar to my Acura Navigation unit except I can carry it and it seems to be much more up to date with the maps. I sure like the ability to find names and phone numbers of motels, banks, and eating places when ever I want. Now I must decide if I want to buy Mapsend Directroute. Next, I will try to download catches from the internet and place them in the unit. This sure beats my eXplorist 300 and having to manually enter each cache. The Color is really great!!
  21. I emailed Magellan and they returned an email saying that they do not have an extended warranty for the eXplorist. They also entered my eXplorist 600 SN under my name even though I could not do it Sunday afternoon since their Web Page would not accept the 0119 SN. I have put the eXplorist 500 and two eXplorist 600 Manuals on a Web page of mine for early buyers to download. I may not leave it here long, but I could not figure out how to use it without them. Go to : http://www.robinsengines.com/HP/Home1/index.html Look a few lines down from the top of the page: ************************************* Pre-Release from Magellan: (temporary for early buyers) Magellan eXplorist 500; 112 pages Manual: "Click Here" Magellan eXplorist 600; 116 Pages Manual: "Click Here" Magellan eXplorist 600; 28 Pages Manual: "Click Here" *************************************
  22. I just got my eXplorist 600 and agree, but have not yet tried connecting to my XP Computer. One additional thing that I have not been able to do is to buy an Extended Warranty thru Magellan for my eXplorst 300 or 600. I have called Magellan on this a couple times during the last two months and they say to check the web page for updates.
  23. Just cancelled my order for an eXplorist 600 with GPS City today after waiting since Jan 20. When I checked on my order the expected delivery keep changing and it now is into May. I saw the eXplorist 600 in a local store over a week ago for retail cost of $449. I went with REI for their Explorist 600 for $359 + $13 = $372. (I was told by the REI representative they have 60 of these left), I should have my unit by next Thursday . I also saved $12 from what GPS City wanted for the same unit. I have enjoyed my eXplorist 300 for three months, but want to connect to my computer and download maps and caches.
  24. I ordered a explorist 600 in mid Jan 05 from GPS City. It cost more that others, $375, but I I thought since I could order it then they would be the first to ship. I saw a explorist 600 in Outdoor World in Orlando last week and they had had them since last Monday for $449. I called GPS City last Firday and they still had not received their shipment. The sales man said they had a large order of about 300 units. I did ask why they did not call Magellan and ask when they would received their shipment and request to get some so they could ship to their early pre-order customers. He just said that when the others run out, they will be the only one that has them. I guess I will still wait it out and use my explorist 300 until then.
