  1. A lot of reviewers frown on personal or scented items too. Lip balm, shampoo, soaps, even sunscreen. Things that would seem innocent enough.
  2. If you bungy a cache in the crook of a tree with green or brown bungy it will stay there snug as a bug and not harm the tree.
  3. I do not log my own caches. That is like saying "Hey, I found my car!". After you had parked it in your yard to begin with. I did log one cache that I adopted 3 months later. It did not belong to me at the time. Although when I look at my caches it looks kind of funny seeing "Mine" arrow and the found it check mark. I may delete. I have not decided.
  4. I think that some of those old cemeteries are all but forgotten. By having people respectfully visit them maybe they will hang around a bit longer before being grown over and lost. I think hard before placing a cache in a cemetery. Usually it is an old one that is long forgotten. Or in one instance an area of the cemetery far from graves. Usually along the edge in the woods. I always put on my cache page to be respectful of the area. I do not recommend it at night. If there is a funeral going cachers know enough to come back later. But a lot of these cemeteries do not even have any recent graves. In a way I think it keeps us in touch with the past. Not in an obsessed, morbid way, but in a way that acknowledges and remembers how the area developed and who was here before us. I have placed a cache in a cemetery where relatives are buried. So far I have had no complaints from any families of the buried. If I did they would be removed, simple as that. If anyone caused damage looking for a cache I would also remove them. Most people use respect when visiting a cemetery. It is with that idea in mind that one may assume the caches will be a bit safer too. One of my caches involved visiting a grave to get numbers off of the headstone for a waypoint. So the cemetery was not disturbed. The grave was of the first woman in Canada to have a memorial erected in her honor. Another cache had you visit a grave of a local strongman. If anything I think it helps us remember. How is that disrespectful?
  5. I started hiding caches because there were none in the immediate area. Also, it brings cachers to this area when they otherwise may not have bothered exploring or visiting. Sometimes they may find an old bridge or cemetery or trail. Maybe a waterfall or nearby wetland. These may even be places they were unaware of.On their way through they may also drop a few dollars at a local store or restaurant. The local museum let me hide some caches on their trail system. They received more visitors as a result. So when I hide caches maybe I am giving back to the sport and the community, even if it is just a little bit.
  6. I do not let on that my nanos are anything besides a micro. I usually don't describe the nano container either. That gives too much away.
  7. Here in Nova Scotia you have to have a compass, knife and matches if you plan on entering the woods no matter what the reason.
  8. Scratching, rolling in the dirt, biting yourself or making use of a nearby bush also works. So I have been told.
  9. Guilty, nope. Sometimes a bit foolish when you are trying to find an urban micro and not stick out like a sore thumb. But you get over that quickly.
  10. This is especially true if you like to keep your caches up off of the ground. Froma distance they are hard to see. If you bungy them to a tree the flat black will not stick out even in the white of winter. You can use paint or black duct tape which is cheaper than camo.
  11. I try to leave at least a few things for adults, but most of the traders are for kids as a lot of adults do not trade. I like to leave the following items. Some of which can be used elsewhere caching are tennis balls, bungy cords, AA's of course, flashlights, emergeny Blanket or poncho, playing cards or small games, small tools, picture frames or bookmarks, keychains, cell phone holders, etc.
