  1. I picked up the Microsoft Streets and Trips w/ GPS receiver a few months ago. I recently picked up an HP IPaq rx3115 for various uses but figured I would like to use it as a GPS, for maps and for routing as well. I installed the pocket version of MS Streets and Trips but it does not support routing. If someone else is using their Palm Pilot or Pocket PC to do similar functions can you let me know what software your are using or how you set it up to do the above functions. I've seen some commercial programs available for mapping and routing but I'm really not looking to throw another $100+ dollars into it. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
  2. Nope, something like that, and nope...too bad, GPS_Paul/Dave! I'll keep you in mind, though! I have to be honest, I'm not GPS_Paul, I'm GPS_Dave... I have a Silver/Gray/Green (depends on how the sun shines) 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. I took the bench seats out of the back so I would have more room for my raft and other hiking gear. It was probably sunny the day you met paul and I was heading out to hike 10 miles with some other geocachers. I too recently scalped myself (well, I left about a 1/4 inch) just for the summer and because I figured it would be cooler when I hiked. Welcome to the boards and hopefully we can convince you to try out Geocaching. Dave
  3. Black Chevy Tahoe, The weather was overcast and I was heading to the... Library to meet my friends. We are book nuts! I feel the same, I felt my heart fluttering all the way to the library, my friends thought I was on drugs or something but I was high on you. GPS_Paul....
  4. Hey guys, I won the pigging contest, I won the cooking contest and the sack race in the last event I attended. I also found a terracache too! I am going back to the event log and post 4 additional "attended" notes so I those can get recognition. I came home with a cache in my pants, should I post that as an "attended" log as well? Dave
  5. I can say that geocaching.com is the best Rubbermaid Management System on the market, thankyouverymuch. I for one hate "structured programing". When I was programing, I wrote programs my way, I knew where everything was... in college they tried to teach us structured programing and I hated it. "Best rubbermade management system" Dave
  6. I agree. There are no "points" for geocaching? You mean, all along I have been living a lie? Dave
  7. I went to "bay day" in Oyster Bay. I got to try out a bunch of Kayaks, I'm getting close to making a purchase! Then it was off to Belmont Lake State Park to get a paddle boat for the kids, then it was off to only one cache. The sun is still shining so I'm going to head outside again. Dave
  8. semantics....16 events and the total events were logged 113 times. semantics....16 events and the total events were logged 113 times.
  9. Ah... if only life was that simple. Exactly. I found 56 caches that day- so I logged 56 finds. Not a real complicated concept, eh? I think he meant 1 gc.com cache, one find. The caches are not listed on gc.com so why should anyone get credit for finding them? If it was a terracaching cache, would you log it here... oh sorry, you probably would. the caches were not listed on gc.com, the event was. My appologies http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.asp...74&ul=MajorBrat shows 113 events attended and when you click on the link, only 2 events show up. What false facts? the above example shows fact, not false facts. The debate here is whether or not these "temp" caches that are not listed on GC.com should be counted. The debate is for or against posting an "atteded" for each "temp" cache you find. Personally there are a good deal more people who say this goes against the grain. Perhaps the powers that be should work on a sub catagory for events in which you find temporary or non-geocaching.com caches but the last I heard, they did not like the idea of temp caches. Dave +
  10. So, you climbed the highest mountain, found yourself in enemy terratory, attacked by a bear, snake bitten, fell off the cliff.... If you find a terracache or some non-gc.com cache, do you log it here because it was so tough to find? no... Don't you think it's silly to log that someone has attended 100 events even though they only attended 3 events... or in your case Major Brat, you profile shows you have been to 100 events! Wow, your really into this stuff. but a quick check at all the 100 events only brings up 1 event?!!? I'm going out caching and kayaking today, have a nice day! Dave
  11. From what I have read in previous messages, they made an agreement with the land management not to leave the caches behind. Dave
  12. It's a game! ...but this is also an important discussion as you are always going to come across people who march to the beat of a different drum. This "sport" is also evolving and sometimes the people who march to a different beat of a drum can bring new variations to our sport. When it comes to etiquette, i was taught that you don't log your own cache and you don't log a cache more than once. Logging an "attended" more than once would also go against that etiquette. I could see logging the event once and making a list of the non-gc caches or even logging the event but then adding notes to say you found the non gc caches but to log that you attended 30 times... it makes no sense to me. I am surprised the organization didn't take a stand against logging an event more than once. Again, we all march to the beat of a different drum. Dave
  13. it may follow the guidelines but the temp caches are not listed on GC.com. In fact, GC.com frowns on temp caches. Why not just enter all the non-gc caches you find in one "attended" log? I don't know if any of you guys scrolled through the event but it looks like a mess. Dave
  14. I started reading this with a "who cares" opinion but am coming out with the opinion that an event should only be logged once. caches that are not listed on this site should not be logged as a find It doesn't matter the distance, how difficult or well thought out the caches were. if they are not listed here for everyone to log, they should not be listed as a find. an event should only be logged once. If a GC.com cache is found, it should be logged accordingly. If the temp caches are so important, why not just write one long "attended" or "Found" log stating you found the other caches, why post 30+ logs? It just doesn't make sense unless your trying to pad your numbers. The game does have rules, some of them go without saying, some are just common sense. Dave
  15. I'd say 48 hours should be max How about after 36 hours you get 2 points instead of 3 for retrieving and dropping a flag. Then 1 point for every 12 hours after that. In other words, there should be incentive to drop it off quickly. 39 is good Gives you a day and a half I'll agree with that. (with 39 hours, not that it's a day and a half) I just want to find out how many quotes we could do before the GC Server Explodes?! LOL... They'll probably close this thread before we get a chance to find out. Why would they do that? It's the quote cavern of doom!! You guys are really immature! Hey I thought you were on my team! The both of you, stop it! This is getting me dizzy.... Wow! Cool diamond effect! Have we got the record yet? Packanack wrecked the flow. Figures, leave it to someone from Jersey. Back on track! Look deeply into the swirling vortex that is this thread This is like one of those things where if you zoom out long enough it all starts over from the beginning. We just might have discovered the vortex of the universe here. Does it surprise anyone that the vortex of the universe was hidden in a cache? What the hell are you talking about? I just finished eating and scrolled down the page really quick and I think I might throw-up. What was the question again? Reminds me of those cascades on Usenet. Wow, I am getting dizzy just scrolling down the screen. Me too, but the important thing is to keep this topic related to the original topic. We have BOTH flags. If we keep going will we squeeze the original message so tightly that it is just a string of individual letters? Please stay on topic before they shut this thread down for gross silliness You're right. NJ Sux. There, on topic. Now, now... lets put credit where credit is due... NJ did NOT invent Levittown!!! And let's not forget the first community built on sexual freedom, wife swapping, and Marxism... The original Hippies, 150 years ago, in Modern Times... in what is today Brentwood... Let's make this a cache, I'm thinking of a post, please tell me the author, date and time. FTF wins this swirling vortex of text....

  17. Reminds me of a wasp that was flying around in my house, that thing was huge. After my wife killed it, I was amazed at how tiny the wasp was... Here's to you guys.... Dave
  18. I believe I read something somewhere about caching in shady places. Don't pay dead, Don't run away, don't get in between them and their kids, don't throw your backpack down and DO NOT FEED them. Hope this helps. Dave
  19. I'm 5 hours out of my Apicoectomy proceedure and feeling pretty good. I asked the doc if hiking would be out this weekend and he said I should be fine. If I decided to go can I hitch a ride with someone from LI? Thanks, Dave
  20. Hip people don't blast the Wiggles Greatest hits while heading out caching. Just a fine point. By the way snookems, you forgot to have your dictionary handy. ALIGN only has one L. For me, its not about the numbers, its about the formula BMSquared=(Team Bam Bam) +1. See, not the number, but the formula. The smack talk it triggers is great. Umm... I'm just not hip If the Wiggles don't go in the car, if the DVD player isn't ready with "Hot Potato", then my son will not go with me. Can we change the not hip part to Barney or something? Dave
  21. I'm just going by the numbers as it seems important to you guys. I figured you guys would want to know my 50th was "The Cache of the Dead Bum". I hope to have 100 by the end of July and 200 by my 1 year anniversary. I know it's important to you guys... not me :-) Dave
  22. I have one card that I have never signed. I'm always hoping someone asks me for ID but no one ever does. Maybe I will sign my card with "Check ID" to see if they will get the hint. Dave
  23. This reminds me of Credit Card Prank This guy is nuts... you will find out how nuts he is if you read through his website. I hope I don't give you guys any bad ideas.... Dave
  24. With a cache title like that, does that mean someone's [audioclick] is now grass? I don't think so... but ya never know. I believe they're still looking for Jimmy Hoffa. Dave
  25. Zarah, I went down to the preserve, inflated the boat and was off and rowing at around 1pm this afternoon. As I got to the island, I realized I left my gps in the Vanr After walking towards the NE side of the island I found it right out in the open and rescued "Peck The Dead Chicken TB". It took a total of 15-20 minutes (estimated) and it was a bit windy and the water was rougher than it was last weekend when I tested out my raft. I was hoping to get a few people to do this at the same time but there wasn't too much interest. I figured, what the heck and just did it anyway. It was for my 50th and I found all caches within 5 miles of my house. I'm hoping to do a few more today as I'm close to doing all caches within 6 miles of my house. What do I do for my 100th cache? anyone? Dave
