  1. Regarding the survey -- I can't finish the thing unless I select three features I like. I really don't like any of them but I would like to provide some imput to the survey. The way it's designed if you can't find anything you like, your input to the survey ends. It just simply isn't wanted.
  2. Unfortunately, I don't find any of the features useful. I already use the map to select where I'm going and which caches I'll attempt to find. I down load the caches I'm looking for to my GPS receiver and I either find it or not. I really can't see the need to muddy the waters.
  3. Couldn't help but read and reply to this thread. I used an Etrex legend, then a Garmin GPSMap 60Csx and loved it. The 60Csx went bad and the factory couldn't replace it even with a loaner. I opted to get a GPSmap 64s. I consider this the biggest mistake I've ever made with a GPS receiver. I've used a variety of receivers in both the Army, with another government agency and for personal use and find the 64s really needs a complete rework of the software/firmware. I find the my position Icon way too big for the screen, and the ability to view all the cache icons without being anywhere near them a hindrance. I like being able to see my loaded caches from a long way off not wait until I'm within a few hundred yards from it. I'm quite disappointed with the 64s. Used it about 3 times and just doesn't spin my wheels. It may have lots of new bells and whistles, but the 60Csx fit the bill much better for me. Just my opinion gunnerb
  4. EXMAN, I commend you on your mission to replace the missing TB's. I'm sure it takes a toll to keep producing and not hearing any thanks. I didn't know you were doing this but want to say thanks for all those for whom you did the job and didn't get back with you. I'm not sure what I'll use to send out in the future, but like my earlier post said, gotta make it ugly and certainly not worth anyone taking home. Just neat enough to move from one place to another. I have one in my possession now that I picked up yesterday that is a simple rubber keyring (motorcycle) glued to a thin plywood back. Ugly enough to not want it, but good enough to travel from England to other European countries and here to Texas. Thanks again for what you've done.
  5. I sent out three over a year ago. One is still alive up in Minnesota and the other two have "disappeared" from the caches they were in. Very disappointing since none of the prior cachers claim to have seen them. The last individual who visited the cache before the TB went missing mentioned he took his small children with him to the cache. This particular TB was a purple octopus that was in a kids meal from Sonic. Hmmmmm. I guess I spent too many years in Intelligence and Law Enforcment to not wonder. I probably won't order any more TB dogtags, maybe just make up my own and make the traveler as ugly and uncollectable as possible so no one will want to keep it in their possession.
  6. As one who relies heavily on satellite views for work and play, I am not at all happy with the inability to view caches in the satellite view. I would like to know just exactly where I can access and learn to use the GSAK macro or the Google Earth macro to add caches to the free applications out there. I don't like it but I understand the greed associated with the Google side of the house and urge GS to seek out free avenues to keep this activity as inexpensive as possible. If someone can point me to the means to find and use the macros mentioned above, I'd be grateful. Thanks, gunnerb
  7. Thanks very much guys/girls. I really appreciate the information. I'll get to work studying the methods provided and use what my meager two brain cells decide on. Thanks again gunnerb
  8. You mentioned that the "alert functionality already exists". I'm not real swift so if you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks very much. gunnerb
  9. I've read a lot of posts and logs and noticed that some folks have new cache alerts sent to their phones when the cache is published. How do I get my new smartphone to do this? I've downloaded the geocaching app, but have no clue on how to get alerted when a new cache is published. Any help would be appreciated. gunnerb
  10. I know what you mean. I thought when I started this that the GeoCoins and TB's were to be moved from place to place, but I've noticed that there are some folks out there who delight in just grabbing the trackables and collecting them. That's not cricket to me. Move the little buggers along, that's half the fun. I'd like to put out a couple of TB's, but afraid they'd become missing in action.
  11. This is gunnerb here lurking. I'm fairly new to this activity and enjoy it a bunch. Haven't put out any caches as yet, but am working on it. Stop by the forums a couple of times a week just to see what's new.
  12. Thanks much to everyone who replied to this question. I'm late responding because I forgot where I found this forum, and haven't been on the site for a couple of days. Don't you hate it when work interferes with fun? Goes along with my lack of geo-sense. I have an old Tungsten E, but I'm not sure it'll work for this application. If I'm wrong please let me know. I wasn't aware that the PQ could be downloaded to the receiver. I'll try that next. It's gotta be easier than printing out a mass of paper. I didn't realize that I could download everything to my receiver. The 60 won't hold the details, but if I'm not mistaken the macros mentioned by pickatree would help. Where can I find and download the GSAK and the macros???? Looking at getting a new smart phone thing that'll give me the cache locations as well as the brief description of what I'm looking for. Been looking in the blind because I don't want to take notes on the details. Probably accounts for my low cache finds. Thanks again for all who responded. gunnerb@email.com
  13. Hi folks, I'm fairly new to this hobby/sport/activity, and am using a Garmin GPSMap 60Csx. I wind up sitting at my computer dumping caches one at a time to the receiver. This is very time consuming especially when my spouse is ready to go, and it's somewhere we haven't been before. Is there a procedure that I can follow to mark and then download all the marked caches to my GPS without having to do each one individually????? Any help would be appreciated. I've done one pocket query and overwhelmed myself with a stack of paper that was in no specific order. Like to avoid that if at all possible. Thanks gunnerb
  14. Gunnerb here, first time on the forum and want to find out where I can get some of the Geocache logs to fit different size caches. Chickencoop and I want to put some out as well as find them and have not been able to find a printable one. Any help?? We just started this fun last weekend and are both bit. Me more than her, but she'd rather canoe.
