  1. I think eatonville is Minnesota, and it wouldn't surprise, if there was there.
  2. i believe you can physically hand to your freind, and he can enter the identifying number and take it out of your inventory and put it into his. and there would be no problem with you doing this
  3. one caution, letterboxer's don't leave swag or trading items. I recommend buying a pocket notebook to "stamp" your find. Both of the previous site, I gave will allow to log you find. I doubt you will find a (hitchhiker), bring it home, and carefully follow directions. Above all, never take the stamp, it isn't trading swag.
  4. it is possible to find geocaches w/o a gps'r muggles do it all the time. first of all, choose a 1.5 difficulty cache assuming one is available in your neighborhood. Know what you are looking for. (tupperware, ammo can etc) try to stay away from micro for now. (film canister, bison tube, nanos). Read hint, logs, and desription carefully, for any hints and clues to where it might be. Use map and satellite photos to give you an idea. if all this fails, take up letterboxing, until you purchase the gps'r, this will at least teach about hiding methods. atlasquest.com letterboxing.org
  5. be aware of what you are looking for. The three I saw in Las Vegas are listed as altoids tins in which alot of people insert magnets, in fact I just confirmed that two are definitely magnetic. Once you learn about this hider's technique you will begin to catch onto what is happening.
  6. ditto on what has previously been said, although I haven't noticed the glare problem,

  10. most of the vehicle gps'r arn't going to be to friendly for geocaching, since you already own the nuvi consider getting an etrex yellow if you want to hand enter the coord or the the legend either option work work best to zero in on those off the road caches
  11. i would probaly concentrate on either gpxview or cachemate, be certain you download the pocket pc portion of the program, once you have synched the program onto your pda, get a .loc file unless you have a .gpx handy. convert the file using gsak into the format your pda read and synch that data file onto your pda.
  12. just reading the description, any any of the pocket pc programs should work, check resources and make a selection http://www.geocaching.com/waypoints/default.aspx
  13. does anyone know the command line in gpsbabel to convert gpx files to pdb, my wife found a linux formatted gpsbabel already thank you
  14. okay, I took the plunge and I'm now a premium member. now when I get the .gpx file from geocaching.com how do I load it into my legend and palm. I have loaded cachemate onto my palm, but couldn't get the .loc files there.
  15. TRAX(light rail) hasn't made it out to SLC yet. There are two bus routes that access the airport, one goes downtown, the other goes south of the airport to valley. The nearest cache I found on Google was GC1212J a micro south of the airport. The nearest cache currently holding tb's today are two miles away. here is a link to the salt lake city bus system www.utabus.com route 50 downtown buses appear to leave every half-hour(00:18 & 00:48) and follow North Temple into town. route 56 valley buses appear to leave every 45 minutes( use bus sched to matchup with your flight. These buses follow 3600 West to Valley buses to Toele are every three hours and I don't ######### that direction without using a taxi. have a nice trip

  18. mingo is GC30, question for the veterans? Why is Beverly(gc28) which by my score should predate GC30
  19. traditionally the oldest active cache is Mingo in kansas which predated your chicao area cache by two days http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt=
  20. like the snorkeling instructor said about seeing sharks in area, consider yourself privileged on your snake sighting. Now the good news, it probaly was not a poisonous snake. There are four kinds of poisonous snakes in North America( rattlers, coral, cottonmouths, and copperheads). Of these, two are native to Maryland(copperhead and rattlers). I believe copperheads are more brown than black, while the timber rattlesnake which is primarily in the appalachian mountain tends to have more color than just black. Most snakes, if they aren't poisonous, are constrictors. However no north american constrictor can kill an adult human. That said, unless you can positively identify a snake, it is best to keep your distance and admire this beautiful animal from a distance
