A cacher still caching even while being locked out
TeamRabbitRun replied to makgonz_JOSE's topic in General geocaching topics
Makgonz - this is an interesting question. Would you share with us your concern or what situation you encountered that lead you to ask about it? -
Adventure Labs and Streak Count
TeamRabbitRun replied to bjohio's topic in General geocaching topics
To be clear, Smitherington said "...if you DO one each day.", not "...if you LOG one each day." If you DO them all in one day, but wait to LOG them one per day to satisfy your streak, then you are in fact violating the spirit of a 'streak'. -
PERMISSION! PERMISSION! Please read cerberus1's post way up above.

Geocache was placed on private property
TeamRabbitRun replied to JustPassingThrough1's topic in How do I...?
I can't argue with that. My comment was based on the fact that the OP already had a relationship with the landowner. I've written before about not touching others' caches. -

TeamRabbitRun replied to JustPassingThrough1's topic in How do I...?
Actually, a little more complexity: Since there's a landowner whom you know doesn't want it there, I'd emphasize that point in your log and the reviewer may decide to take action earlier. Groundspeak is very responsive to landowner issues. If it's not wanted and causes unwelcome visitors (legally called 'trespassers') it'll most likely get action faster than a 1/1 FTF on Main Street! You could volunteer to go clear it from the land at the request of the reviewer, but that gets into all sorts of issues about physical cache ownership. Either way, you could also act as an ambassador for the hobby by letting the landowner know when it's gone, so they're not left with a bad impression of our little band of whackos. Respect for the land and its managers! -
Hints - more than on cache page
TeamRabbitRun replied to Jayeffel's topic in General geocaching topics
I believe the OP is asking about the types of hints we might give on caches that we do not own. If that's really what this thread is about, then my answer is....NONE! As a CO, I craft the experience and with it, the hint I want the finder to have. I'd be annoyed if there was someone else out there 'spoiling' my work. Yes, that means a lot of people might not find it, but that's OK. Otherwise, why hide a difficult cache? Personally, I use everything at my disposal to find a cache, including other people's logs after I've exhausted all other on-site resources, but I hate it when I read a log that says "It's under the white rock." dadgum! It's like reading a movie review that blurts out the ending. I always try to be non-hintal (yes it is - look it up!) when I write my logs out of respect for the CO and the job they've set for finders, and I'd NEVER consider providing hints outside of a limited log. I don't believe we as finders are in competition with COs, so I wouldn't arbitrarily take sides with them by purposely ruining a CO's fun! I believe it's a collaborative game with CO's and seekers as teammates. It's like riddle-askers and riddle-answerers; you try to make it JUST hard enough without turning people off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Side story - In 1982, while waiting for my then-girlfriend to get ready to go see the long-awaited "Star Trek II" (and insanely excited we were!), I picked up the newspaper and saw well-known American reviewer Rex Reed's writeup on the movie. "Ahh," I said. "If he starts saying anything specific, I'll just put it down." The first sentence read, "The only thing you have to know about this movie is that Spock dies." She came out of the bathroom at that point and said, "Why are you crying?" -

...Which is a good reason why you should Cache every day. It keeps your phone healthy. My wife didn't buy it, either. -
How do I find who might be responsible for an abandoned cache?
TeamRabbitRun replied to timberdoodled's topic in How do I...?
No disrespect intended. In this case the word 'hapless' only meant 'unlucky' and doesn't seek to imply anything else. Kudos to them for their follow-through, of course. -

So is someone going to tell this hapless ex-owner? Seems like the decent thing to do. -
Charter Members and giving Favorite points

Good question about the definition of 'Charter Member' - I clearly don't know. Anybody? -
Charter Members and giving Favorite points
TeamRabbitRun replied to Jean&Jim's topic in General geocaching topics
A premium member is a member that has a current, paid 'Premium' account. Unless charter members are granted 'Premium' status because they've been around since the beginning, if you haven't paid for Premium membership within the last year, you're a 'Basic' member. -
If you care enough, as CO you're empowered to delete those 'Found' logs. Many COs send a note first, asking the alleged non-finder to adequately describe the cache. If they don't answer or don't convince you that they were there, then they don't get to keep the 'Find'. Many COs care about this, and many don't. You do you. Personally, I care. Many people find and sign caches without logging online. That's fine if they really don't care about publicly tracking their hobby. But the other way? Nope; you don't get to do that to mine.
-
Or, just make it up! All you REALLY need is the GC number, Cache Title and a place to record signatures. Everything else is up to you. Make it YOURS!

I hope the smiley face indicates that that's not a serious suggestion.

Etiquette/Rules of a new cache near a moderator disabled cache
TeamRabbitRun replied to naughtybunny's topic in How do I...?
I would NOT submit a cache within the exclusion zone before it's archived. First of all, the reviewer will deny it out of hand, and secondly, it's kinda like stopping by the nursing home to see if you can buy the old geezer's house before the rush starts.. Seriously uncool. Have some respect for the nearly departed. Remember the Washington Examiner reporter who asked, "Aside from the obvious, Mrs. Lincoln, how'd you like the play?" -
On virtually any page on the website, on the top toolbar, "Play...Trackables" and enter the "CE..." code in the search box. That's how find it. You can also directly go to https://www.geocaching.com/track/

Only see highlights if trackable is present
TeamRabbitRun replied to SqueakyPoo's topic in Trackables
Because it's not at all accurate. That link only states that someone has checked a TB into the cache with a log entry, and no one has checked it out through a log entry. The presence of TBs on a cache's page should only be treated as an indication that a TB MAY be present. You can't even say "Should" or "Probably" because it just isn't true anymore. -

Clearly, you have the 2s and 5s in the wrong order. Swap them for each other and it should be good. -
Is geocaching decreasing in popularity?
TeamRabbitRun replied to essap2's topic in General geocaching topics
So much anger from relatively new players! Would you care to explain the things you've talked about? I'd be interested in reading about your experiences, without identifying specific people, of course. And, which 'you guys' are you referring to and why? Please don't throw a bomb and then disappear.
