  1. OK, the name's a stretch, but is anyone interested in a Utah GeoCaching Users Group? It would be fun to do some extra things as a group, plus have a forum for learning more about GPS's, maps, trails, hiking, the local area, etc. I think it would be fun. What do you think?
  2. I would rather have 100 really good ones, with 5-10 good ones new per week, than 1000 crappy ones. (I am not saying those in any state are crappy, but there are crappy ones in every state.) I would rather see imaginative 2s and 3s with a couple of really challenging 4s and 5s and a few charming 1s thrown in for newbies and youngsters than a gazillion "drive-by" 1s so we can hit some magic number. Let's work on the quality, so that everyone benefits. It's frustrating to want to hide a cache where someone else hid one of questionable quality. My .02
  3. I scouted an area, found a great spot for a cache, then had my buddy go and see if he could find the spot. As I was preparing to log the cache, I checked to see if there were others in the area (OK, I should have done that first, but I kind of stumbled onto the area). There was one only .2 miles away. So, my buddy and I went to find it. I didn't think it was hidden well, the difficulty stars were suspect, and there was some stuff in it that I thought was inappropriate. To be fair, I don't think the original cacher put that stuff in there. It just wasn't in a difficult enough spot, based on the people who frequented the area. (Hidden low, near "party" area, through which you must go to get to the good terrain.) I told the cacher about the contents we found, so he could remedy the fact. However, should I just wait to see if he removes it and archives it, and wait for the spot to open up? It is an absolutely fabulous location where people should go to see spectacular scenery. I'd appreciate your thoughts...
  4. I am ready (?) to make the leap into mapping software. I am considering EasyGPS, ExpertGPS, MapSend Topo (I have a MeriGold), and others. I DO NOT WANT TO PIRATE SOFTWARE!! I am perfectly happy to buy the software I like, but hate to buy software I don't. I DO NOT WANT A COPY OF YOUR SOFTWARE FOR MY SYSTEM!! (Sorry for the redundancy. I do not want to get flamed. I make some of my income from royalty sources and appreciate what it takes to produce.) What I would like is if there are those locally who have any of the above (or others that are appropriate) who wouldn't mind showing it to me, how it works, and the pros and cons. I would like to see on their GPS how the MapSend Topo looks in action here in our neighborhood. Clayton tipman1NOSPAM@hotmail.com
  5. If you are interested in a job using your GPS and other skills, check this out. http://www.dice.com/DandL/s/sonyelec.sjscs10784.html
  6. I changed the line setting to 30000, restarted MapSend Streets, and it still gave me the error that my Map330 did not have enough memory. Since the software was from my 330x, will it always be that way? For other purposes, what would be the exact amount that should be put in that line for a SanDisk 32MB card? THX
  7. So the real question is now: Would you sell yours for that? Or are you that attached?
  8. I have a perfect condition MeriGold, and I was wondering if anyone wanted to trade straight across for a MeriMari.
  9. It is fun to see the new forum look, with the new "signature" pictures, etc, plus the new UBBCode stuff to make it simpler. I think the poll feature is cool, too. I miss the location listing next to the name, but obviously, it isn't important enough for me to look at the person's profile. I guess Clayjar's post numbers are going to have to start over again, too. The new instant gremlins are fun, too, and now I won't feel like such a fool when I previously couldn't make them work. THX for the great work, and here's to more reasons to ROTFLMAO instead of the other dominant topics of the week. Great job. Let's go caching!

  11. Last night I was on an airplane (SWA) playing with my Meridian, showing it to a kid and his dad sitting next to me. I was in the Central time zone (near St. Louis) and the time was incorrect! It showed exactly one hour too early for the location I was in. I thought about the new firmware version, which I loaded, that has DST, but when I went over into the Mountain time zone (my "home" zone), the time did not change. This was the first time I have had my unit in a different time zone, so I was quite surprised. Any thoughts of why that happened? Is that normal? When I go to Japan or Europe, will I still get my home time, unless I re-initialize? (I did not do that after loading firmware.) null
