  1. I am NOT gonna tell the story of the day I followed the voice in my GPS and ended up in the wrong country. "In 300 feet turn right. Turn right" "Oh (expletive deleted)! This is the bridge to Canada! Honey...Do you have our birth certificates and such for the border?" "Um, no!" Looks like a nice enough chap in the customs booth. "Reason for visiting Canada today?" Well, you see, we really don't have one. We just made a wrong turn and found ourselves on the bridge." "Followed the GPS, didn't you? Happens all the time."

  2. Do not feed the troll. Ignore and move on.

The responses to my discussion here will give me pause to ever bring up another topic in the future...I am really disappointed in all of you.

Wow. what a buzzkill your responders to this have been for me. I am a newbie and have had the warm fuzzies about this community and hobby--until now. I just ventured out of the "getting started" topics and read on the "Who is lurking" forum how this kind of hostility is keeping people from posting in the forums. Now I see why. And one is a charter member??!! Should be ashamed of yourselves as experienced members. If you want to be a know it all, at least use your knowledge to be helpful rather than self righteous and arrogant.

Yes, I am replying to myself. I just wanted to add that even if you guys are spot on--you don't have to be jerks about it and belittle someone. Crap, I have enough people in other areas of my life that do that and I can't avoid it. Just saying...what are you telling us newbies--sign up to get this by choice?

The OP, StaticTank, is not a newbie. We started by being somewhat polite asking for the rest of the story. After he insisted the FTF frenzy was the whole story, we called BS. And it turned out to be BS. All the OP needed to do was give us the facts, and we would have been nice and said that we aggreed with the reviewer. End of story.

See, this is how we get a bad reputation around here. So few are paying attention to the fact that the troll comment had nothing to do with StaticTank. They just see the word troll and apparently don't read enough of the thread to understand it was directed at someone other than the OP. Even the OP didn't catch that. He thinks he was called a troll. But it isn't true. Has the popular opinion gone against him? Yes. But that doesn't mean anyone is disrespecting him. His OP and subsequent posts were not the acts of a troll. The trolls post was.

Hi--just to clarify, the troll comment had nothing to do with my rant. I just read the first few pages of replies and that just happened to be quoted in the reply I replied to.

It's the very first part of the conversation you quoted. That is why I figured it was what you were talking about. If that is the case then sorry. He isn't right this time.

Reread the thread. The troll comment was for a known forum troll who stuck his nose in here. It was not about the OP or his situation.

  5. Sounds like FuzzBucket has way too much time on their hands. :anibad:

    I didn't get the e-mail. Now I feel unloved... :(

    I didn't get it either... :) We're unpopular.

I feel left out as well.

I agree. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! I'm a top 10 poster (excluding the mods)!. I'm a Charter Member! Where the heck's my spam!!!!!! :(

Here ya go. Share it amongst yourselves. Plenty to go around.

  6. I tried our local Wal-Mart and couldn't find it in the hunting section. I may end up trying the spray paint thing if I can't seem to find any anywhere. Most of my containers are plastic, so they will require scuffing up. Thanks for the advice!!

Try looking in the paint department.

  7. ihorn, the vast majority of my hides are ammo cans, of the 30 calibre variety. I just drop them in a backpack.

Ok. I was thinking of the .50 cal. a .30 cal should work.

I prefer the .30 cal cans. They are easier to hide and don't cost near as much to fill with nice swag.

  8. I looked at a plastic ammo can at Gander Mountain just the other day. It had cheap foam tape stuck to a flat surface and the lid was way too flexible. No way I would want to put that out as a cache. Particularly at the end of a long hike. I would not want to have to truck all the way out there to fix it every time it was reported as Needs Maintenance.

I hid one of the steel ammo cans at the far end of a 4.5 mile round trip creek walk. I have never needed to fix that cache. I have visited a couple of times, but never found it wet.

  9. This is not a new problem. It has been discussed many times and to date no consensus has been reached. Many want an automated system to check coordinates. Those on the other side point out that any such system can be used to "battleship" the final to a puzzle or multi.

Find a place to hide a cache. Solve any multi or puzzle caches within about 2 miles and you will almost always be ok. When you think you have a clear location check with your reviewer before getting too far into the process. An average cache container can always be moved to a new location. But if you are considering something custom built for the location definitely check with the reviewer before you go to all that work.

  10. I got a buck says they do.

    You're on.

    Somebody owes a dollar! :)

Nope, sorry. Moderators are underpaid and overworked.

    (oh no he di-un't! B) )

'side. I anin't driving all the way to Eye-oh-waa to collect a buck. But if I ever get out that way I'll make you by me a beer. Then I'll have to return the favor. Then your one-upsmanship will kick in and I can't let that stand and...well I'll have to bring the wife so we don't have to drive.

I'm telling ya that guy can't be considered a Mod. So I'll take my dollar (and my beer).

    Just say'n.

  11. Sounds like you had a grand time. Thanks for sharing it with us. That is one of the great things about this hobby, sharing the experience with others.

Given any thought to giving it a try yourself? It's a great excuse to "get out" more. There is something for almost every level of ability.

  12. Depends. What gubmint agency controls the area and do they have any policies regarding geocaching.

Look for a geocaching group in your area. They can help you with info on what areas around you require what level of permission. Or check with your reviewer.

  13. So I went to try and find a lock and lock because the places I can afford a small ammo box from are sold out. Would a rubbermaid lock-it container hold up for a couple of months until I can get an ammo box? We're going through a really dry spell in our area right now and haven't had rain for months.

    Thanks for any help :)

It should work OK but they aren't as good as the real LnLs.

  14. I was visiting my dad in Eatonton Ga, and hunted for "The Real Brer Rabitt", finding the final to be a Wally World plastic bin.

Not sure how anyone could think something like this could ever be even remotely water resistant.

That's a lot of water. Excellent example of why it's so important to use a watertight container.

That's holding plenty of water. What it needs to be is air-tight so that it holds air.
