  1. Well no, you can use GPS without data or wireless as long as airplane mode is not enabled, but it could be risky in the deep wilderness if you're constantly covered by forest canopy, or using something less than a 4S ;), especially if you haven't got offline maps available

In that context I'd recommend having a GPSr, even if only for backup

I tried, it just tells me to enable wireless and that I'm not subscribed to a data plan. My phone was never activated on a network.

  2. I'm going to canada for the weekend and my phones going to be roaming the whole time. Its one of those fancy new fangled phones that is constently updating your email and facebook stuff. I love this phone for geocaching but I'm afriad using it will charge me roaming fees. I'm new to gps technology and not sure if using your gps while roaming counts the same as calling or texting. Plus that constent data Streaming. Tmobile was not helpful at all so i was hoping someone with previous experience could help me.

  3. I bought a Garmin Etrex Venture HC because it was the only one in my price range, then I had to buy maps for it because it didn't come with local city and town streets loaded on it. I want to Geocache but it was really hard when you can't see anything on your map but empty space. So I bought the City Navigator North America 2010 and I can't load a single map region on. They are all too big. Why would Garmin release maps that don't work on their unit? Did I download the wrong one? Or am I missing something? Is there any GPS out there in the same price range, maybe a little better? I"m s new at this.
