  1. I tried, it just tells me to enable wireless and that I'm not subscribed to a data plan. My phone was never activated on a network.
  2. So in a short answer, no I can't use the gps without data or wireless and hope to find my way through the wilderness?
  3. Thanks for the replies, this is helping me understand. My next question is, even if I download the caches to be used offline, which I don't know how to do anyways, how does that help me find them without the gps?
  4. I guess I was just thinking if a gps can access triangulation without wireless or cellphone service then the phone should be able to. Different technology?
  5. I have an iphone 4 but I don't have phone service. I use a portable wireless hotspot that I carry in my purse, however I've come to find it doesn't work in the woods too well. IS my gps on my phone useless or is there a way to access it and use it like a normal hand held GPS?
  6. I'm going to canada for the weekend and my phones going to be roaming the whole time. Its one of those fancy new fangled phones that is constently updating your email and facebook stuff. I love this phone for geocaching but I'm afriad using it will charge me roaming fees. I'm new to gps technology and not sure if using your gps while roaming counts the same as calling or texting. Plus that constent data Streaming. Tmobile was not helpful at all so i was hoping someone with previous experience could help me.
  7. I bought a Garmin Etrex Venture HC because it was the only one in my price range, then I had to buy maps for it because it didn't come with local city and town streets loaded on it. I want to Geocache but it was really hard when you can't see anything on your map but empty space. So I bought the City Navigator North America 2010 and I can't load a single map region on. They are all too big. Why would Garmin release maps that don't work on their unit? Did I download the wrong one? Or am I missing something? Is there any GPS out there in the same price range, maybe a little better? I"m s new at this.
