  1. Hey Campfire,

I saw your post and that there have been no responses so far. You might want to check into local area Facebook pages for more

'connection' with who's doing what. Facebook is rapidly taking over for the forums for keeping up with local goings on... Some of the newer cachers I've spoken with don't even know what the forums are...? :(

Secondly, summer is not a good time to do the power trails in Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah! It can easily climb to well over 100 degrees and locals know to plan ahead of time, but they are also willing to revise plans as current upcoming weather is forecasted. It's very important to keep in touch with current forecasts!!!

Personally, we did the original ET Hwy series in the middle July. Heat topped out at 113 degrees. And even though the majority of the trail is grab n go (travel), it's still really taxing. Fortunately, we had a cooler full of just ice, bandanas to soak in the ice water to wrap around our necks, and excellent A/C in our car. All that said, it's way better to do the desert power trails in the winter with much much cooler temps and little chance of rain or snow.

  2. Sadly, people forget this is supposed to be fun, as is evidenced by the CO's response. As a CO, I would never require someone to 'prove' anything. For Pete's sake, it's just a geocache!

If someone was deliberately logging false finds regularly, then I'd probably just delete their logs and move on. Problem solved.

    My hay-penny's worth...

  3. There's only a week left until the early bird registration deadline, and there hasn't been one bit of substantive information about the conference workshops posted yet. The absence of any details between the ten months since this event was published and what is essentially one month left until the event itself raises questions in my mind about how well-organized this affair is going to be.

Is the workshop schedule going to be published prior to the August 3 early bird deadline? Or will those of us who would like to ensure that we're paying for something we'll find worthwhile simply have to pay more for that privilege?

I would appreciate a response to this post by the event hosts.

  4. Wow, I've not been geocaching for years other than maintaining the SDCET Top 70 TB and was checking out the forum links on that page only to see there's not much action around here any more! What happened?

If anyone knows any San Diego-based geocachers that are not and should be included in the TB list, please let me know (apparently via writing note on the TB rather than here  ).

  5. We are so very sorry for your loss, and we agree that you were fortunate to have her with you all those wonderful years. May she rest in peace.

    RIP GEO-K9-Betsy! TB - M9MEE9

Betsy suffered a ruptured Hemangiosarcoma vascular tumor on her liver early Tuesday 4/2/13, and passed away within a few hours. There were no prior indications that this was her fate.

She always enjoyed the hikes, events and campouts - Meeting new cachers and dogs. She was a rescue Shepard from a high kill Los Angeles shelter and spent almost a year at a veterinarian office in foster care, as no one wanted to adopt her.

We were very fortunate to have her for 8 short years.

  6. Happy Birthday, Harmon!

Just remember that, in spite of all the abuse you take from all those folks who misunderstand you, another year above ground still beats a year below ground.

Happy! Happy! ... another year above ground indeed.

   Happy Birthday, Harmon! And many, many, many happy returns!

Happy Birthday, Harmon!!! Hope you had the very best of days!!! :santa:

  7. I've finally got a cable to allow me to download waypoints to my eTrex H. I've managed to get them to download, but the field length for the GC code seems to be too short, so I only get the first 6 characters of a 7 point GC code. Consequently, if the cache series is something like GC26B8K, GC26B8R, GC26B8T, GC26B8Z then only the last uploaded of those stays listed in the device, as the first 6 characters of each waypoint is identical, so they overwrite previous ones. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Are you using gsak to download your waypoints?

If so, change the field note to: %drop2

That will drop the GC at the beginning of the gc code

  8. Is there a link or bookmark list someplace for "best" caches in Southern California? I tried the link I found for the So Cal Geocachers but it was a dead one. I won't be anyplace specific, but plan to roam around while attending a wedding in Newport Beach. Any links would be appreciated. Thank you.

Check out the 12 bookmark lists found on this cache page...

  9. THESE REALLY WORK!! I checked this out on Snopes and it's for real!

    AMAZING, SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:

    1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

    2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

    3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

    4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

    5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

    6. YOU NEED ONLY TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

    7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

    THOUGHT for the day:

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN THEY'RE PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

hahahaha!!! Thanks for the laugh!!!

It hurts you made me laugh so hard!!! :antenna::laughing::antenna:
