  1. Trust me, I'm not in it for the coins. I started playing so the kids would get a better feel for the GPSr and see how it works. It's hard to explain it out on the lake where they just know that when I stop and say "Here's the next waypoint" it means they are about to catch fish. This gives them a better understanding of why I use/have these gadgets. The cache I placed today (Not yet reviewed) was named "For the love of fishing" This is a sacred place of mine that I want to share with the world. A peaceful out of the way spot on a small river that I grew up hunting and fishing. It's not a revolving door for trinkets/junk/or swag. If I don't see that people enjoy this location for what it is, I'll move the cache and just set it 5 feet off the tar road as a P&G. The only reason outside of giving people who find this cache a little extra fun stuff to go along with the expierance, was to give the GC and TB a better resting place then a Altoid can under a dumpster at McD's where they might have ended up. Looking and reading a lot over the past week has me thinking that MOST but NOT all people who would work to get to a location like this and enjoy it for what it is, probobly would never drop a GC in pill bottle and toss it in the bushes at a rest area. The GC or TB would probably make it to some place cool like the top of a mountain, or under a water fall. I know if/when I buy some TB/GC they will be placed with the same gut feeling in mind in hopes they don't get muggled and end up sitting on someones dresser or in a junk drawer with no clue as to where it might have been destined to end up.
  2. I wasn't so mad about the TB as I was the coin's ... I was on a mission to make finding my new cache that I placed today that much more rewarding for those people who do look for those items in a cache. No biggie for me, as I do not own the coins in the first place, but this just makes me more aware of what goes on as a noob, and if I would want to waste my $$$ on items that are not played right. Like any game, I do not make the rules, I just play to have fun. However ... If this would be a chess match and someone moved their Knight only one space to put me in check, I'd be venting about it too.
  3. As a Noob, I was POed today because I drove 25 miles (50 round trip) out of the way just to pick up a coin that was not where it says it is! (GC1VX6B) So I decided to goto another cache (GC1Q587) to look for a listed object, and it was not there. However, in the same cache, I picked up a TB that is not listed, and I can not even enter the tag number. I already dropped this in a new cache, so I guess it will sit there un-logged until the next person grabs it, or I go back and pick it up until the owner registers it.
  4. Sorry for posting the number, It's edited, and I'll never do it again. And this coin, like many big fish, will be "Cached, Photo'd, & re-leased" to find it's way to the next lucky catcher of the C3 GPS coin.
  5. Happy Happy Happy ~ The kids and I really did find our first coin today It is mint! And after reading where it has been, I cant wait to release it. We went for a short ride and hit 7 caches today. (OOOOP's)(Coin #) Will be released back to a "New (Fish'n & Hunt'n) cache some time tomorrow. I have been planning this hide all week. It will have a fishing pole to use and leave there for the next visitor. And also a duck call. Located on a river that I grew up on. I think this will be a great place to let this coin go along with all of the fish that have been tossed back and future fish that will bring a smile to fellow cachers faces IF they can find this hide. I can't wait for tomorrow.
  6. That's what I was trying to get at. You said it much better. Our own little way of going green
  7. Read up on the other topic abot names to see what I have to say ... Can I ask why you regret it? Is there some sort of geocache stalker hunting you down? Hope to see you on the trail someday Brandon.
  8. Well, I've only found 12 so far, but this one (Click) was by far, the best of the 12 so far. cant wait to get out and find more.
  9. My wife has the Droid phone ... She just used the 3G to access GC.com and then I loaded the Lat/Lon to my GPSr for a couple that I did not have loaded. We'll be making a trip out to Washington this summer from Minnesota, and there is no way I am going to take the time to load a bunch in my GPSr that I might not ever get to. So the plan is to just drive until we need a break, or plan to stop anyway, then pick a few off the web site and be on our way. I used to drive OTR, so I know about where we'll start having problems with reception on the phone and will be sure to grab a couple coords before we get to those areas.
  10. I use my full real name because I have nothing to hide and don't care if anyone knows who I am. I am very active on several fishing forums and it's kind of the normal in that world. I've googled Kevin Winkler once or twice, and there are 100's of us out there. I'm really not scared that some hacker is going to find out any of my bank acct. numbers based on a user name on a forum. I never use my computer to place creadit card trasactions or pay bills of any sort, so even if they do try, good luck getting anything of value off of this machine I don't put others down because they use some cool nic-name/handle, to each their own. Besides, I never have a problem remembering what my user name and passwords are. I have several passwords I like to use, and I change them around all the time. Someone once asked me if I was looking for trouble. When I asked them why, they started to explain that there are a lot of anti's in the world. People who don't like outdoorsmen/women. Groups like PETA looking for guys just like me who hunt & fish. All I say to the world is this ... Here I am, this is who I am, and this is what I do. If you don't like it ... Come on over to my turf and we'll talk about it for a while. I'm a Noob to geocaching, and I've been reading non-stop about some of the problems we face. Just look at the blogging topic I feel for you all that have to deal with those nut jobs. I feel some-what safe out here in the middle of Minnesota, but if for some reason some anti wants to come face me out here, I'm more then ready and will be happy to show them just where the big old bear S#!T'$ in the woods. I like to see peoples names when getting to know them. It's much easier for me to remember John Smith than it is to remember cacherstasher420 or something like that.
  11. I wear my sporting clays vest, or my hunting vest for just about anything outdoors/in the woods. I tend to take too much with me at times. I'm a noob when it comes to caching, but I live for being outdoors and spend a lot of time out in the woods. If I'm not out training the pup, I'm hunting mushrooms, maybe some wildlife photography, or shed hunting, and now my new found love geocaching! As stated by someone else, these vests are made to pack a load. I can take two bottles of water, a nice sack lunch, GPS, compass, extra batteries, cell phone, ammo or what ever else I might need and you can dress in layers. A vest with a large enough game pouch allows you to take off layers and stick them in the game bag. If there is a chance of rain, maybe even a light rain coat in the game pocket as well. I don't use a backpack too much anymore, only if there is a chance that I'll be gone all day.
  12. I hid one last week with a title "Home land security - Protected by ivy" I feel it's a nice hide, and the name itself might throw a few people off the trail. There might be a little ivy close by, but I can catch the stuff in the wind, so this location can't be too bad. Good view of the country side. No one has found it yet, but do you think I should change the name? Do you think the name will keep people away from it? Sorry, just a noob here wanting to see more caches in my area that are bigger than a pill bottle. I'd like to get more people in the area interested in caching.
  13. I started at page 1 and read off & on for 2 hours ... I got to page 37 I was looking for new ideas for my next hide ... Don't know if I can top some of these, but I see I'll really have to up the antee on my next creation. I can see this is going to take some time.
  14. Sure wish I lived out that way! I would have located her by now. Some how, some way, even if I had to camp out and watch the cache for a few days. I'd know where she buys her gas, where she shops, what time she goes to work. It's not stalking, your a new blogger poperatzie , investigator, photo journalist. She could make the front page of many local papers if you do it right. If the case/investigation was done right, she's be embarrassed to get a Veggie burger at the drive threw on her way home from work. Even the check out lady at Wal-Mart would be smirking at her. Send a photo and story to all the local networks. Am I the only one who sees the headline? ..... This just in .... Local basket case just released from the loony bin, family is concerned for her welfare do to a new issue she has developed. It is now presumed that she is hoarding thousands of geocaches in her home and storage sheds around town. If you spot her, please stay away from her, she is mentally unstable. Just for starters anyway. Peg her apartment door as the new "Ding-Dong-Door-Ditch" invisible cache ... No log to sign, just knock on the door and run. You'll know you were at the right door if you read about it in her blog
  15. Starting to see more and more of that around here too. Many moons ago the rendering plant would pay the farmer a few $$$ so they had product to process. Now they don't need dead cows, sheep, pigs to make dog and cat food, now they have HUGE processing plants processing 1500 head of beef a day. Bird processors do hundreds of thousands of birds and these old rendering plants just cant keep up with all of the producut anymore. So it's much easier just to drag the dead out to the woods and let nature take it's course.
  16. Really nice, I'd love to have/find one myself, but like mentioned before, I'd bet it would be hard to keep it from getting crushed. Not to mention, I've only seen one cache big enough to put it in. But very nice for sure.
  17. Never heard of it before? I'll be googling me up some of that! I can catch it in the wind. I think it has something to do with the pollen. I am a die hard outdoors-man, but I am a woosie when it comes to poison ivy, oak, and sumac! I hate them all. I can spot a patch from several yards away but by then it's too late sometimes.
  18. Thanks for the heads up ... I know I read over it some place, but my head is spinning with everything I read in the forums and then have to back and double check the rules and dig threw that again ... I'll remember it all in time
  19. What do you all think of my first cache ... GC27TR5 ... Still open for a FTF, but I did my best with swag for making my first cache. I tried to fit in a ice fishing pole, but the pail was a little too small. I have a pile of folding lock blade knives I have collected over the years. I'm still a newbe here, so I did not know if knives would be cool or not. Right now I still have a ton of fishing gadgets I'd like to keep adding.
  20. All of the hooks I place in caches are kind of becoming my signature card even tho I've only been to 8 hides and a few of those were too small to leave anything behind for swag. The hooks are new, and in a sealed package ... I let my 2 year old play with them in the car. Nothing to worry about my friend
  21. I was thinking (Ballpark) If it says 10 foot, you need to draw a circle around you. So 20 foot from side to side. I went and found a cache tonight, Walked to the exact number on the waypoint, I use my numbers and not the little arrow thingy. Looked down and there it was stuffed in a log not 5 foot from me. If that answers your question at all.
  22. I try to avoid it every year, but always seem to get into it. I was out mushroom hunting a week ago and got it between my fingers really bad. I'm not saying you should do this or anyone else for that matter, but the only way I have found to kill it ... I scratch the $#!% out of it with a brush, and pour bleach right on it. It burns a little, but one or two applications of that, and it seems to dry right up for me. Like I said ... The disclaimer on the bottle says only to use as intended. And like they say in the movies, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! But I'm just saying I don't like waking up in the middle of the night itching like a junk yard dog with fleas, so I bite the wooden spoon and get it over with fast. The longer you wait, the more it will spread.
  23. My family found our first 7 last weekend, and even tho we did have a GPS, I don't think we needed it. We found all of the caches in about 5 min. or less, and I only used the GPS for two of the locations to pinpoint a area closer to the cache. Park & Grabs are way too easy in my own opinion, but they were fun for the kids. I'll work on the very remote locations myself until they get older, and leave the childs play for them.
  24. I have my own site, but it don't have anything about Geocaching on it yet. I'm new to the sport, but I can tell you that I have big plans to add another page to it soon. I'll drop in a link to geocaching.com and see if any of my clients are interested in finding a cache or two along the way. Something free to add excitement to my adventure services that I have now. My Webpage
  25. Thanks for the help and the tips. My plans for the PVC pipe are to have a protected container to place another container (the cache itself) inside of it. I was thinking of anchoring it into a river bank about 5 foot above the flood line. And if it works out as planned, it will hold a fishing pole and a small tackle pack for cachers to take a few casts if they forget their pole at home. Of course the threaded cap end will have a small tool hanging from it to help get it opend and closed.
