Oh I just can't friggin' stand this. Another 8-14 inches in the Philly area. "Caching through the snow" is something I would have been more agreeable to 20 years go. Having just received my 60c within the last week, its driving me bananas!

CLICK HERE and scroll down EXACTLY halfway down the page. You will see a window suction mount for external antennas labeled as "GPS Antenna Windshield Mount Bracket for Garmin GA26C GA27C and Gilsson BNC MCX antennas". That's what I use with my external antenna when I fly on commercial airliners.
um....duh. The power of the scroll bar. (ok, can't find the "embarrased" smiley.
Thanks for the help.

Just got my external Gilsson antenna from here. It came with 2 small screws. On the bottom there are 2 screw holes, and it says "For pilots, boaters & hikers: To avoid Compass Interference peel to remove magnet"
What are the screws for? There obviously for the screw holes, but what gets attached? I started to peel the sticker, but it wasn't coming off easily, and it looks like I'd peel the model, serial number, etc. info.
What has anyone else done?

I guess I can forget that avatar I've been requesting
Seriously, though. God bless the child, blessings to the family.

Welcome to the obsession...er...I mean hobby!
I borrowed a friend's GPS and went hunting my first. I did the Chicken Dance when I got my first! I felt the same way. What a rush!
Just received my GPSMAP 60C yesterday, and I'm severely bumming its snowing here in the Philly area.

I get home from work yesterday at around 5:00. At 7:30 the wife says "oh yeah, did you see the package that came for you? Its in the living room."
AAHHHHHhhhhhh....... he screams as he runs into the living room.
**Tearing and ripping sounds***
It's here! It's here! My 60C arrived!
And don't you know, its snowing like heck in the Philly area......
are the geogods against me?

I ordered my 60c from Amazon 2 days ago. Also got the cigarette lighter plug, and the external antenna discussed yesterday from GPSGeek.com...
I'm thinking of buying some Garmin stock, this is a lot of GPS' purchased!

I use NG topo for planning trips and Mapsource Topo on the GPS for finding caches.
RK, when you say you use NG for planing trips, do you then load those trips into your GPS?

This web page was posted by someone yesterday. Everyone admitted this was a pricey site, but swore by their products.

Well I went back today and found the cache! Woo-Hoo! Great fun.
I did the chicken dance after I found my first. Good luck!

Look a little further, GSAKJ 5.1 just released.

This is what I wear as well, and I love 'em. After walking through streams and snow while wearing them, I can vouch for the fact that they're definitely waterproof. I, too, have the brown ones...didn't see any red ones where I bought mine, but I wouldn't wear red ones anyway.
Hubby wears the Ozark Trail boots mentioned by MMACH 5 earlier in the thread; he's never had a problem with them.
When we got our boots, we also made sure to invest in some good socks - no cotton, so as to avoid blisters. They've worked so far!
Daclaren, I'd like some detail added here. What kind of sock did you purchase, and where did you get the boots/socks.

I was thinking "sacred", as in a "Druid-ish" sort of fashion. You know, tree worship. Wouldn't his potential constituency be interested in knowing this?
So, let's see what other stereotypes we can hypothosize:
He drives a Yugo (or rides a bike to work).
Is a card-carrying member of the Sierra Club.
Doesn't really know what "outdoors" means, except as previously noted: if it's outdoors, it's sacred and all you people should stay in your houses.
He's a vegetarian.
Think of any more?

Amish,
I can't wait to get out into the country (a short drive for us) to see your kinfolk.
I have a clip art image or 2 I'd like turned into an Avatar.
How can I get them to you. They're in QuickTime format.
Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on becoming officially a 'cacher. BTW, were you doing that cache that requires the funky chicken dance??
I did! Good thing there wasn't anyone around to see!
not until you go back and delete that second "FOUND IT" log, just kidding, welcome to the gameClearly a noob, rookie mistake. I promise to do a better job collecting all my thoughts before logging a find. I beg the forgiveness of the GC pro's who have been doing this since Ulmer's 2nd cache.

I belong to a Boy Scout forum on meritbadge.net, and GC.com came up in a discussion.

I got my first find today! I was so excited I jumped and danced my way back to the car!
I found this
today, but couldn't find this one.
I was clearly not dressed for the second cache. But I was so excited about my first day officially geocaching having borrowed a Garmin GPS III Plus over the weekend. These 2 caches are close by where I work. The first one was perfect for a first attempt. I thought borrowing the III plus was a good idea before I plunk down a wad on a new GPS.
Am I officially a geocacher? I'm hooked, no question. I.....must.....remember.....to....eat......
Must......remember........family.......obligations

Barometer and electronic compass is the only difference. CS had them C does not.
Actually, its altimeter and electronic compass, not barometer.

Music, Cub Scouting with my boy(s).
Uh oh! I do music and have one son in Cub Scouts (former Cubmaster I am) and one son in Boy Scouts (Asst Scout Master I am).
As a noob, I'm still feeling my way around, and since this is a "Markwell" like entry, does this mean I've been "Markwell'ed"?........
......I read all the recent posts about Markwell, haven't figured out what it means yet, though..........

What else is a good idea to order while you're at it?

PS -- if you are going to use them for serious hiking, and especially if you plan on carrying a heavy pack, give careful attention to the insoles.
Hikemeikster, what does this mean?

Anyone have experience with thix carrying case? I'd like to know if there is an opening on the back for either an external antenna or power source.
