  1. UPS Ground really means UPS Ground.

I don't call this Quick Service...

I figure they will hit 3 or 4 more states before they get to Texas. So maybe I will get them by end of next week. Too bad. I wanted to wear mine for the CITO for the Texas Challenge on Sunday.

  2. A buddy of mine has what he calls an "Untracker". It takes the info from the freq and displays signals on the gps. I will try to reach him this weekend and see if he built it himself or bought it.

  3. CindyFrag put out a nice multi in my area that has 5 micros, all redirectors, that lead to a nice fat ammo box.

    See GCKBKB

Some of them are pretty small. But the whole run is great and we really liked it because it made us think.

Micros can be a lot of fun, if they are done right.

As was said above, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!

  4. I ran into this last week. Went by to check our cache, as we do weekly. I work two jobs so I rarely have time to geocache right now. The cache was half empty and all the good stuff that had been there was gone. Now I have to scramble this weekend to pick up some stuff to rebuild.

We bend over backwards to make an even trade, wish everyone would.

  5. 2. Garmin is American owned and built. Built in Olathe Kansas, not more than 30 miles from my home. Magellan is a french owned company owned by Thales. Lowrance is also an American owned company that started in Missouri as a fish finder/depth finder company. They are now based in Oklahoma. Garmin started as an aerospace company and has always been.

    .

That would be enough for me.

I like my Legend, don't think I will change brands.

  6. As I understand it, the Canadians only require you to pass CW if you want to work CW, but that HF phone is allowed without passing CW.

Wish they would do that here. CW isn't my strongpoint and once I get my General, it will go by the wayside...

  7. The D700 doesn't require a TT3 unit. The D700 has a built in TNC. The TT3 is a limited function TNC. If you have a D700 your perfectly setup for many functions of mobile APRS.

You are certainly correct. Actually, what my brain had in mind when my fingers misquoted me was that I would have an UnTracker. A buddy locally is using one. He said it was needed to get the GPS signals off the air back into the GPS and giving an active readout on the others running APRS in your area.

  8. Haven't been geocaching long, but I am already looking at my next unit.

I have been looking at the eTrex Vista C, the GPSMAP 76S, the GPSMAP 60CS.

Prices aside, if you have one, what features do you like or dislike on one compared to the other?

I have gotten used to the buttons and whistles on my Legend and like the convenience of using it one handed.

Are the 76S and 60CS harder to use in this fashion, or is it just a matter of getting used to the difference?

  9. I am a moderator on a Catholic forum. Having spent 4 years doing that, it wasn't hard to realize that the views held by TPTB and the regulars weren't always a representation of the Catholic Church as a whole. It was a representation of the people that frequented that forum and grew from there.

No matter what forum you are on, you have to take it all with a grain of salt. Some things will be representative of the whole, and some not.

My advice is to go geocache and have a good time.

I don't come here for politics or debate, but for information. To that end, this forum fits the bill.

  10. Dunno... I'm pretty new to Geocaching, but I've already decided that I like quality versus quantity.

I concur. I do most of my geocaching with my 10 year old granddaughter. After some really hard (for us) and neat caches we found this weekend, we are going to work on some really quality caches, even if it takes us a month or so.

  11. Too bad, it is a good idea. I am out of town on business and needed to find a bank or another business. I could easily do this if I had my GPS and the right coordinates. GPS's are going to become more commonplace, IMHO, and this would be a nice little tool.

    What could it hurt?

I was recently looking for a few stores locally and someone sent me a list of the stores with the coordinates, so I had no problems finding them.

  12. Thanks for all the input !! :o I'm not really sure how getting into this 'sport' will go over (i.e. - how well the kids and I will get into it) this is the reason I didn't want to spend much to just try it out. With all your suggestions I think I'll shop around a bit more and see what else I can find. The Legend seems like a very popular entry level GPSr, I'm just concerned that it will be a bit hard to read the display in the Jeep as I will have to mount it somehow (if only I had a third hand!).

Again, thanks for the advice and keep it coming!! (Sucks being the noob sometimes!!)

Velcro.... I use velcro to stick my Legend to my dashboard while I am driving or I have strapped to my left leg.

I would follow the suggestion and spend the extra 10 bucks for the Legend.

  13. Welcome aboard from a fellow newbie.

I spent last Saturday with some local geocachers and really picked up on some great methods and ideas. Find you some other folks locally and tag along. Great people out there.
