  1. $10,000.00 for the cache, not so much, those props were left over from when he turned his castle into a Halloween Haunted House. You can't use and Event to collect caches? There's a work around. You meet for breakfast, that's the event. Then you say, let's go caching!!! There are groups in our area that do this once a month in the summertime.
  2. I recently arrived at GZ and had to climb 10 ft up a tree to sign a log. There are several cachers in our area that have the physical ability to hike a short trail but could not climb a tree. They made the hike, they spotted the container, are you really going to deny a find because of a physical handicap? Or would you say that if you are elderly or handicapped you are not allowed to geocache? Note, that there was no warning of needing the ability to climb listed in the cache description.
  3. Nuh uh. Nope, GS stocks that product in the store...that product is called the "Nano Cache" and you can see that same exact name, along with the statement about being "world famous Joani designed" on various vendor web sites. As far as I know, GS doesn't call products that they sell and that are made by vendors anything other than what the vendor calls the product. I know as I am a GS vendor. The point remains that they sell items classified as 'Nano' so they differentiate between micro and nano. Nano Log Strips - Set of 5 The perfect replacement strips for maintaining your nano cache. Made with Official Rite in the Rain paper, these log strips are designed to hold up to the elements. Each sheet measures 9/32" x 14" and includes numbered spaces for up to 35 entries. 4. Is there a forum for getting help on a puzzle. The puzzle is pretty much straight forward, Q&A, the problem is that there are a few questions that have different answers depending on what website you visit. I can't get geochecker to agree with any of the 27 combinations that I tried. As a note, only one other logger found the re-director, but that could be just blind luck. GC173D
  5. Can you please provide a quote were I stated they should be banned? I just said I don't like them and if forced to hunt them for a challenge or something, I'd like to be told that I'm looking for a Nano. And for those who can't deteremine the difference between a Nano and a Micro, Groundspeak sells a container label as a Nano. Wonder why Groundspeak didn't just call it a magnetic Micro, since, by their own definition, it's a micro........ http://shop.Groundspeak.com/productDetail....;ProductID=114# Nano Cache World famous Joani Designed Custom Made Nano Cache. Perfect for your local urban Geocaching experience. A built in magnet makes it easy to hide these cache containers in various settings. Extra log included as well as a gasket to water proof the container. Five colors to choose from!
  6. Some of my favorite caches have had 4-star difficulty ratings because of their camouflage. Many of those have been micros and nanos, and not all of the nanos have been blinkers. They aren't always "needle in a haystack" hides. For the really good ones, you don't even have a haystack. You can search "everywhere it could possibly be hidden" in about 10 minutes, and then you have to figure out how/where the cache owner actually hid it. first of all i would like to say we would just like to be told somewhere in the description that we are looking for a nano! if they would tell us that then we would not have any problems!
  7. I think he was talking about cemetaries grass being mowed, lol. There's usually no PI in cemetaries but if ou are in the south, you will still have to deal with moquitos, chiggers and biting flies. You could try over the calf socks and bug spray, just scrunch down the socks when you're not in high grass.
  8. To add to the rockpile in a field of rock piles, UPR which I concluded meant UnderRockPile. We had one hint that was a link to an imdb.com site, we were in the field and just used extra data usage to confirm the coords with geochecker.
  9. Okay, so you like searching for Nanos, that's fine with me. I don't like searching for Nanos and that should be fine with you. I'm not asking you to agree with me and I'm not asking for a ban on Nanos. I would like a notice that the container is a nano so I can avoid them. mainly bc signing the log is a pain in the ..... Here's my experience with Nanos First one was in a No Parking Sign, proud to have found that one, the husband had given up because he didn't know they were that small. Two & Three were DNFs that I avenged b/c I now knew that these were what I was looking for. Fourth, solved a puzzle to find that GZ was a park bench, look for anything magnetic and what do you know, another nano. Is there a way to use stealth to find a Nano on a park bench? There's all sorts of creepy crawlies out there and I'm not about to be feeling around where I can't see. It's a park bench in a Park, there should be no surprise that the area was full of muggles. So I'm conflicted about how to claim the cache and preserve it with muggles present? Fifth Nano find, on a road trip a long way frome, complete the puzzle on the fly giving a GZ of downtown square. Hint was a link to a movie on the imdb site, with gps bouncing it was hard to zero in. When we reset our thought process we eliminated any thing like an altoid tin or bigger, that ledft Nano and we found it right away. From my experience, knowing that something is a NANO makes it easier to find and really doesn't provide a challenge. Once you know that's what you are looking for... What are your specific experince with a NANO?
  10. Not to hijack, but what about hiding caches in bushes? Not only is it hard to look through bushes in a stealth manned, I've seen where the shrub avove the cache started to bald because the number of cachers reaching into grab the cache. But back to the OT, I have a great example to agree with your point and will try to post it when I get home.
  11. Visite www.Letterboxing.org or www.atlasquest.com, they are the geocachin.com websites of the letterbox community.
  12. I followed your advice and posted my opinion on that thread. I've only been in this hobby for a few months and I can already tell that it is quickly degrading into Idiocracy. We either have to over letigate the process of hiding a cache or let the inmates run the asylum. You can't even post in a forum without creating some flame war over something like an Avatar. We have people planting cache every 500ft on a deserted road just so others can bolster their imaginary numbers that have no meaning except to the person logging them. We have a cacher in our area that has a screen name for her dog, and collects FTF for him and counts how many finds he has. I've heard her say on a couple of occasions, "My dog has more FTFs than that!" I'm not against a well thought out Nano hide, but searching for a NANO is quite a bit different than searching for a micro. I just ask that the CO note somewhere that it is a NANO.
  13. 1st I did a forum search for nano and nothing came up and did a look through a couple of pages, perhaps I should've gone a little further back. I didn't say nano's should be banned, I just feel they need their own category so that I have the option of ignoring them if I so choose. I agree with most things chokecherry posted to this thread, unfortunately there are some bad owners so having the extra category would be helpful. tozainamboku, you can get vegetable flavored ice cream in the small town of Lares outside of Puerto Rico. They have all kinds of variety of ice cream, including meat and vegetable. I never bought any ice cream without a label, where did you find one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lares_Ice_Cream_Parlor I'm all for a hard or challenging finds, we recently spent 3 hrs at a State Park searching the lake for an underwater cache without any luck and then spent weeks discussing strategies on how to find it. The COs in Texas love their camo and they put it to work. They also like to make you hike 30 minutes on uneven terrain only to find a film canister hidden 15ft up in a tree, that you have to climb the tree to get it.
  14. Nano caches are the worst container. They really need their own size category as some hiders don't mention their size in the cache description. And looking for a nano is like looking for a needle in a haystack, that's not my definition of fun. If they had their own size category, I could avoid them. It's not even a challenge, hiding something large in a small area in plainsight, that's a challenge.
  15. I registered it at garmin.com and according to the serial number it is eTrex Legend H, is there some way to tell on the device itself?
  16. I bought one of these off eBay, it eventually will acquire satellites but not as well as my store bought yellow eTrek H unit. While moving around the Legend will drop all satellites and the yellow keeps with 24ft. Both units are running 3.20 software. Does it sound like I got a bad unit, do gps receivers short out?
