  1. dude just buy a gps don't try to make something else into a gps
  2. I believe Garmin set that as the number for a reason. When you load up the full 2025 (i did that) the redraw gets slower. If you got a 2gb card and loaded up 5000 map segments it would be painfully slow. I think Garmin would need to put a faster processor in the "2gb" models. Then again they might up the limit and let you decide
  3. You should get Garmin Mapsource City Navigator 8 and if you want lots of maps (AKA: more than one state) you need to get a bigger Micro SD card, I'd suggest a 1gb card, that is what i have and fit almost the whole country. With this software on the unit you can do detailed road routing, view detailed maps, get POI's that let you search for nearest gas, food, etc... and search for addresses. It is software that really makes the 60CSx the best it can be. Without Mapsource the 60CSx can't be used to it's full potential. Once you get the software it will have detailed instructions as to how to install it onto the unit.
  4. If it was just car navigation, I'd say go with the iQue however if you are doing any offroading/geocaching/hiking/biking you want to avoid iQue's forever because they just don't hold up to the rugged outdoors. I'd get a 60CSx which is the top of the line 'outdoor' model. I have it and it is AWESOME. Most people like the 60CSx better than eXplorist series however some people would never get a garmin. As for me, garmin forever!
  5. If you are getting a 2gb card and aren't loaded with geo-money then wait 2-3 months because the prices will come WAY down if it's anything like other types of flash memory. I'd get a gig card and then if you have City Nav 8 NT you can load the whole USA or if you have city nav 7 you can load the whole USA. I've got a 1GB in my 60cSx and it works great.
  6. I have also heard that sometimes on bumps the contacts in the battery spot 'bounce' off the sides of the batteries. If you bend them out a little and put some foam behind them it can help to keep them pressed up against the batteries.
  7. I don't know, I have a 60CSx and i really find the compass very useful (the altimeter is a joke or something because the elevation still jumps around). I haven't caliberated my compass since i got the unit in February and it still points right to the cache. I don't know, maybe it is 10deg off or something but it points to a cache fine, i've even changed the batteries many times without caliberating. Maybe i got some new unit that they were beta testing and only gave me lol i don't know.
  8. lol i like the TB idea i'd sure take it and take a look at it, i've had some good luck fixing stuff like that
  9. I say no because its not really a find, you are not searching for anything except a good place to put it.
  10. Well I have a 60CSx and you can just set it on record track mode and it'll take a point every second into a big long track. Then you can just navigate the track and have what you need. You could also make a waypoint at each turn and create a route and if you had city navigator you could auto-route the route. There are tons of ways you could do this on the unit and it's one of the best units avaliable right now. You should certainly get it, you'll be very happy with it! I'd suggest getting a 512 or 1GB memory card for it if you want to use mapsource to load actual street/topo maps on it because the 64MB provided doesn't get you very far.
  11. If you could get the part it would be user replaceable, HOWEVER opening the unit will void your warrenty and they will know. I'd first call and see if warrenty will fix it as they usually have very good customer service. If they won't do it for free and you want to keep the warrenty Garmin has a flat repair fee of $100 (might have gone up to 125) of which they will do anything for the unit. That is the best bet if they won't do it for free and you either want the warrenty or don't feel like you have the experience to take the unit apart and put a new pad in. If you COULD get the keypad it would probably only cost 2-3 dollars. good luck!
  12. The earth will be spinning, sliding, and flying all over the place to get people where they want to go that second lol
  13. All backlights will have a very small number of units that simply 'burn out' due to their nature as cathode lamps. As it is a 60CSx you still have a warrenty so just send it in and you should have a new one within a week happy caching!
  14. Neat car! I'm not anti-jeep, I see nothing wrong with it
  15. But it won't actually be a pocket PC right? It'll be a durable device with buttons like the 60CSx but will run the Windows Mobile 5 as the OS instead of Garmin for more features? Reason I ask is I feel a Pocket PC isn't really strong enough to go in the outdoors and use for caching
  16. I'd wait, your 'first cache' should be a good experience with a GPS, not trying to match pictures of trees with earth. IMO
  17. A great idea, but I think if you really want to do it you need to take the expense and not expect people to pay for it because people will not pay, I bet after 30 went you MIGHT get 2 dollars. If you keep caching you will soon find some creative caches with interesting objects, also you'll learn about travel bugs. Theres much more to caching to come! Most important, HAVE FUN!
  18. I've been a geocaching premium member for 2 months now and I just noticed my forum info doesn't say I'm a premium member even though the geocaching profile page says my forum info is 'premium member'. How do I send this to the forum site?
  19. Dont try to save yourself now!! LOL ok fine I give up
  20. I hear it comes with a 2Tera-Byte Flash Memory card!
  21. I find this one very hard to believe A: $<300 dollars? Did you forget a 0? B: Hologram up to 20"? YA RIGHT unlikely C: Running for 60+ hours on a single CR2032? impossible D: A METAL DETECTOR for COINS in the compass? That is hardly at all possible Is this whole forum some type of a joke I'm not getting?
  22. Make sure you uninstall the software from your friends computer if you want to be totally 'legal' about it. (The EULA says it can only be on one PC)
