  1. I've googled around a bit and I cant seem to find much about placing geocaches next to or inside of benchmarks to create a "2 for 1" sort of thing where a user could log a benchmark and a geocache at the same time. The benchmark I had in mind is this http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=PP2182 and i could easily toss a micro cache in there. Also the benchmark appears to be in the right of way as well as it is in the ditch along side a country road. So I'm wondering why this isn't something that's done more often or if it's against the rules and I didn't realize it or something. I was also thinking I could use the benchmark coordinates and description within my cache description, as it's how I originally found the mark. Also the gps coordinates aren't too far off of what it really is either, which seems rare for benchmarks. I think it would be a really good introduction for people new to benchmarking, and give them a cache as well.
  2. So we all know about the app that is not to be named here. Someone also mentioned another app, called something different. Appears to do exactly the same thing as the app that Groundspeak is afraid of, yet its been mentioned multiple times without a problem. Id like to know what the deal is. My thinking is the app I downloaded tonight doesn't annoy Groundspeak because it isn't polished, and has 1k-5k downloads whereas the app not to be named has 50k-250k downloads and is a serious threat to the official android client that is coming out, especially because it was free. So I'd like to know if some developeers got permission to make a site scraping app, or if that app is against the TOS as well. The only real difference I can see other than the interface is the banned one doesn't say connecting to geocaching.com everytime you search. Maybe that is what makes one ok and the other not? If so, what if the developer of the banned app did that? Would that make things ok?
  3. Ah ya I can see how something like that would make someone flip out. Mercury switches and motion detectors seem like they would be safer and less apt to cause muggle alarm (pun intended)
  4. So a while back a friend brought up that he thought it would be cool to have to cache around boobytraps. I'm assuming he meant harmless ones. Anyway I've been thinking about this and a person could make some neat harmless booby traps. Like with electrical noise makers, a lightbulb that might light up, or something on that order. I've even figured out how I would hide one within a cache, so it would be set off by someone carelessly opening it, and could be reset easily. Within the cache I think is best, as it wouldn't be mistaken for a real boobytrap, though motion detector noise makers in an area might be neat too. Anyway what do you think? Ever run into a harmless boobytrap? What if you did? Would your opinion change if it was listed as boobytrapped or if it wasn't listed as boobytrapped?
  5. There is a bit of metal structure stuff, and there are seams! I didn't think of that, that would be really cool to do a puzzle based on that! I'd have to do some weird math maybe though to keep it away from the other caches in the area, in the park, and not in the middle of the lake though I would think haha. I'll look into it for sure!
  6. Well, it's on county land, and there are no signs, grates, or anything really that would prevent someone from accessing it. As for the dam, people walk across it a lot as its just another part of the shore line really, and it gets mowed a few times a year. (its an earthen dam.) I suppose that's still a bit iffy though? :-/
  7. Ya I saw that, which is why I figured id ask here, especially about the chalk. I guess my thinking is it would wash off easy if need be. What the tunnel actually does is provide an area for excess water to go from a lake that is fed by a small creek. So the area facing the is an open area that goes 20 feet or so straight down, a person with the right equipment could repel or something haha and the other side is a tunnel sticking out of the dam about 4 feet off the surface of a creek. I was thinking of placing the coordinates for the are in the front of the dam and then having a hint with the altimeter. Its pretty easy to figure out how they would get in there, just figure out where the water goes But ya I will have to do more research and figure out who actually has the athourity to grant that sort of request. Thanks for the input!
  8. I have an idea for a hide I wanted to run past the community. Basically I want to make a multi where the first leg is a tunnel that runs through a dam, because its a really cool area and its fun to go through the tunnel, I've done it lots of times just for fun. I was thinking of either using chalk to write the coordinates for the next part (which is about a half mile away, on the same piece of county land) or maybe hiding a film can in there with the coordinates written down on paper. Do you think this would be acceptable for the reviewers?
