  1. Hello all, I am also new to this and have been having trouble finding caches...I have gone to 5 "easy park and grabs" (or so they say) and haven't been able to find anything. I would love to take my son out and have fun, but so far I'm getting frustrated. Anyone in the Bay City, Midland, Saginaw area willing to take an eager newbie out and show him the ropes??
  2. Thanks for the input...I have also put this in the "Midwest" category as suggested in the first response. What kind of error can I expect to have with the GPS? I have been connected to all satellites and getting my approx position within 14-18ft (or so the gps says). My gps goes out to 5 decimal places and most of the caches list 6 decimal places. I am rounding to the nearest 5th place to get as close as I can to ground zero. Example: Here is one listed as an easy park and grab 43.598233 N (I used 43.598230 N) 084.089117 W (I used 084.08912 W) It is very near my house, quick 5 min bike ride...my question is this...How far off could I potentially be when my gps tells me it has 18ft accuacy?
  3. Hello, I am very very new to geocaching...I am borrowing my brothers Magellan Triton 500, and have located several caches nearby my house. I have tried to find 5 different caches and have been unsuccessful at each one. I am a stay at home dad and thought it would be a good way to get the little guy (2y3m) out and about in the nice spring weather and use up some energy. So far, I haven't taken him out, only have gone on my own to some "park and grabs" that are supposedly easy. I even know what one of the caches look like since a picture was posted in the logs for it due to it's very small size. I think this will be great fun once I get the hang of it. Are there any cachers nearby, that can take a newbie out and help find a couple of "easy" caches. I am in Auburn, MI 48611. Thanks for looking.
