  1. I had someone ask, told them and their kids, the next day it was trashed... Now if i say "oh sorry to bother you, i am lookn for something i lost" and they offer to help, then i give them the honest answer....
  2. I use a 8900 RIM and i tag it as found, and then use a notepad on my cell to make a remminder to myself. Get home and then fill out the logs The sent from cells kinda seem lame i think I think 25% of the fun is telling "my story" of how i kept going on the wrong side of the path, or how i was dodging the muggles, or how i almost fell and died The other 25% is the loot and 50% is bragging that i have more finds than person X
  3. Haha i dislike people dissing smartphones. I think they MAY be a bit worse. But now with 66finds my blackberry gets me within grabbing distance almost every time. Of course not EVERY time, but 90% The only time when this is not true is under tree cover or major clouds... And a few when the cache was moved....
  4. I like getting a mix of hides. Finding an "easy" one out if the middle of the woods laying in the Y of a tree is fun. But i also like getting the hard to find ones that are in a public park with lots of people around. And spend 30mins searching for it. There is a cache here in austin, tx with only a 25% find rate! It will be, DNF DNF, Find, DNF.... FIND FIND DNF... so it IS there... it is just crazy fun!
  5. Well remember all that walking/hiking that we all did INSTEAD of driving cars? We all had to eat food to do it! And that apple was from a tree, which was planted by a machine that used gas, and MANY MANY other gas powered machines prob drove by to take care of it. So woot, one way or the other Even the biggest tree hugger loser, al gore, is just as bad as everyone else.
  6. LMAO... i aint even reading the rest of the posts yet. Your post is killing me hahaha I carry one but anyone who is wouldn't shoot someone if they just "scared you" normally someone who is carrying one knows how to use it and WHEN to use it.... But i love the idea from the creator of the topic! I may do that on my first cache hide...
  7. I normally do 10-30 mile bike rides to get my caches... sometimes do a 5mile hike to pick up a handful. Normally i bring 2 litters of water. And a little box of oatmeal, like just 100% pure oatmeal, no sugar, no packet, just oats. just add a bit of water and eat away! Fills you up QUICK and it is very healthy... Sometimes ill bring an apple or banana, but i dislike all the extra weight, its no fun when you are already carry 6 TBs on you and they are wrenches LOL
  8. I say hide it. If it YOUR land, or land you are given the OK to dig on, then do it! Those are cool cache hides, i have found 1 in a sprinker head (mixed in the yard with real ones) and once in a PCV pipe. Both were on privet land and the business owner gave the cache hider the OK. Now if it is in a park, or public land, then no. Geocache rules say not to do that....
  9. What about a banks deposit box? Just get a keyless one and tell the people at the bank that ANYONE who requests may have access to it. Request that only a name an ID be required to have access
  10. geocaching makes a great date Walk along the river? OR... Walk along the river and find some geocaches together??
  11. I have to say, i LIKE getting DNFs only to see a log the next day of "GREAT hide!" I like the 5/5 and 4/5 hides The best type! I like lookn forever only to fail and the next day be shown how dumb i am
  12. Wow a lot of type of cachers! I like finding the HARD ones, and i love doing the long 30mile bike rides into the woods to find them. Or the ones in the middle of downtown are fun. I wouldn't mind doing a "Race" with someone though! I would be cool to find someone who is new in my area, like i am. And see who can find the MOST in a 4 hour period!
  13. Yeah do the 1/2 copy and paste method... Copy "{Y} of {X} caches found while on 30mile bike ride" Then add something to the log, if i have one or remember it. Generally IF something happed i remember Like cutting myself up, or having a security guard roll around...
  14. I am pretty new too, only 50 some finds. But i like finding coins, american or other! I also enjoy grabbing protected business cards... (I HATE the soaked moldy ones..) Also i enjoy getting little toy cars, and HOT WHEELS. Don't care how old or rusty they are. I got a collection of them since i was born and im just adding to it now I get tired of seeing beeds.... but i guess kids like them
  15. I put a pepermint into one once, a few weeks later, went back and ate it Was still airtight, so why not?
  16. I found some caches the other day that were covered in that stuff. I walked through it and nothing. I dont think it ever has effected me.... Maybe i'm lucky
  17. I have one near where i live. Was good one week. Went back another to put a travel bug and it had some water in it cause it wasn't closed all the way. I dont have my own cache yet but walmart sells little plastic boxes for like 8$ that are meant for tubing and rafting, you put your cell phone and keys and wall in them. They seem to be pretty good. I seen them used in a few caches.... Alot better than pill bottles or whatever with ductape. They all leak sooner or later....
  18. I do beer bottle caps I like to take poker chips (as i am a poker player) and take business cards...
  19. No, but spending twenty minutes talking to the nice officer kinda cuts into your caching time. I pull the laywer card now. I am new to geocaching but its already pissing me off with cops and security gaurds. You dont have to answers questions from cops. If you are looking around a tree in a public park, they can't do crap to you. At least here in texas. My last cop i just ignored, i didn't even give him my ID, or name. He had no legal right for me to provide that info. I kept on looking. He kept asking me this and that. All i did was give him the the geocaching website and told him that is what i was doing and i didn't have time to explain why i was so far form home and on a bike and blah blah... As far as the topic goes. It does seem fishy that someone is running around at 2am, but cops can do false alarm calls, it won't kill them. It happens all the time! It gives the traffic cops something better to do than stop people who didn't come to full and complete stop at a stop sign at 3am on a road that leads to JUST your house. As long as the kids aren't running through privet property... its all good
  20. I am training to do a 150mile bike ride (5th year to ride it!) and i figured i'd train again while picking up caches I have nabbed a few in the city, but the rest in a small town of 5000 and the outskirts of that. I like it, i can't see myself driving around in a car to pick up cache... That would make a boring date too...
  21. To add to that, some GPS systems and cell phone apps do this for you, others don't. But just sit and watch the cords pop around, and gather up a handful of them, then avg them together.
  22. I had a cahe like that. My 3rd cache ever.. But it was in perfect shape! He had it in a pill bottled, with ducktap around it, and on the lid he had some type of fake plasic bark that looked JUST like a knot in the tree. I spent 40mins looking for it and so far its been my FAVORITE cache to find On topic, so far my worst cache story would be a cache in a brush pile in central texas. We get HUGE overgrorth and 2 of my 4 DNFs are due to RAPID overgrowrth of trees. One was along a fence on the side of a rual road, weeds and thorns being 4' tall all tangel around a barbed wire fence, no thanks. Then i had another in the middle of a clover on-ramp section, so it was swampy with 4' tall overgroth... no thorns but some, and after 20mins i gave up...
  23. Bring a step ladder? For a tree you could climb it, wouldnt climb a roadsign, but i dont think cache should be being placed on road signs in the first place...
  24. I have to add this..... Today at 19:00 -6gmt i turned on my GPS outside on clearweather in a field... 10 satilittes hitting my GPS... with accuracy of 1.25m... I guess it also depends on where you live. Not all places across the world have that many sats that hit their GPS device... So i guess it is just where i live that causes me to never have one of those cache that is 10' from its posted cords...
  25. Even if you put on on a privetly owned cem, a privetly owned cem has open gates. If its open gates.. then its open? Unless the sign says "NO GEO CACHING" it should be open to anyone, obiousely rules apply like no fireworks, no running around naked, no pissing on headstones. but No geocaching as an understood rule sounds stupid I live and texas and of my 26 cache 4 have been in cems...
