  1. It's the same name I use on all of the forums I visit. This is in case there are others who have as many hobbies as I do, and might actully have the same ones.
  2. When does the cache approver get notified that something is amiss with a particular cache? Should we send a message to the owner, or should we choose the option that notifies the cache approver? Should we start with the message, and wait a week for a response? If no response, then choose the option that notifies the cache approver? We have a ton of urban caches where I live, and we have had plenty of rain and strong winds. I think a lot of the cache owners need to check up on their caches since I'm sure a few of them have been swept away. I looked for one last night with no luck. All searchers since the beginning of December have had no luck with this particular cache. I marked it as a "Didn't Find It", but I also sent a message to the cache owner. What do you think? edit - By the way, what option does notify the cache approver?
  3. Main Menu --> Setup --> System Set "External Power Lost" to "Stay On" I changed that in the first five minutes of having my 76CS. This is more than likely not your problem though.
  4. Thanks for that Neo_Geo. You've made my 76CS purchase seem like the right thing to do. Plus, the fact that I have both US Topo and CS6 maps loaded up at the same time really taxes the memory.
  5. I've changed the "Waypoint description format" to %Name=21 - %code and left the waypoint name at the default %smart when sending waypoints to my 76CS. It works great and still gives me the code name.
  6. How does one convert the waypoint name back to the GCXXXXX code? I'm deciding if I like having the caches being saved as names, or as GCXXXX codes. edit - Nevermind. I realized I could delete the geocache waypoints from my GPSr, and then resend them using %code as the waypoint name.
  7. It could very well be the software itself. Near my house, there is a section of freeway and old highway (before freeway was built) that run parallel. The old highway starts out on one side of the freeway, crosses under the freeway, makes a long sweeping arc, and crosses back under the freeeway about 1 1/2 miles down the road. US Topo gets the two roads backwards. It is right here. Temescal Canyon Road and I-15
  8. But why give it 128 MB of overall memory as compared to the 64 MB of overall memory in the 60CS? It just seems like a strange concept to me.
  9. I was at REI looking for the basic Garmin case for my 76CS. You know, a storage type case. Anyway, they had a large selection, although at MSRP, of Garmin GPSr's. I quickly noticed that my 76CS is quite large and bulky compared to the eTrex series. It's even bigger than my old 12CX. It seems ridiculous that Garmin can't fit the 76CS (memory, buttons above screen) in a smaller form factor. Just having an exposed antenna like on the 60CS trims the unit down quite a bit.
  10. [sarcasm]You have a Mac and a Garmin? I figured there was some GPS manufacturer out there that catered to Mac users. You know, a GPS that is accurate to 6 inches, never loses lock, but doesn't have any compatable mapping software.[/sarcasm]
  11. I have had that exact same problem Mopar. I was selecting US Topo maps from all over the state of California, then bam. A window popped up allowing me to copy the information and submit it to the beta@garmin address. 100% of the US Topo maps are on my HD.
  12. Thanks. So, it sounds like if I upgraded to a Premium membership, I wouldn't need to manually changes to the information downloaded from GC to GSAK. As it is now, all of the waypoints are downloaded as benchmarks. It would be neat to have the offline database on my laptop of all of the information on GC.
  13. I just started geocaching with my two boys (5 & 2 1/2). I download the geocaches as a .LOC file and upload with EasyGPS. Yesterday evening, I downloaded GSAK and noticed that it converts the waypoint description to the waypoint name. This seems like a nice feature because it's easier to remember caches by their description, not by there GCXXXXX name. Then, I saw how GSAK can also hold much more information, like when the cache was placed, it's type, it's size, it's rating, and other (useful to some and not so useful to others) information. Unfortunately, with a GC Basic membership, I have to manually change every single waypoint to include the extra information. If I had a Premium membership, and downloaded the waypoints as a .GPX file, would it do all of this for me? Hints too? GC instructions (multi-cache) too? This would allow a spur of the moment cache hunt, as I wouldn't need to print out the cache page from GC. If I send waypoints from GSAK to my GPSMAP76CS, what information will my 76CS show? If I set my 76CS geocache setting to enter a calendar entry when found, can I then upload my waypoints at the end of the day to GSAK, and will it automatically enter the date in the GSAK database? Thanks.
