  1. I dont know about National Parks in California, but I do know that Griffith Park in Los Angeles is allowing me to place one. I contacted the Rangers of the park, and specifically asked them about it. All they requested is that I let them know where it is. I told them I would go further, and not only give them the exact coordinates, but also take pictures of the cache, and what is going in it. That way if anything is wrong they can contact me and let me know. I do know that there are many caches placed in park lands here in California, and that they are on this site. In fact I just looked at one National Park here in California, and I see not only virtual and earth caches, but also small traditional caches. So I dont know about the whole my job is to go and muggle caches thing. Edit: I just checked Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Forests. They have a ton of caches of all kinds placed all over them. Now if it was against the National Parks rules then GS would not let them be published I would think. Dont mean to say that your GF's Cousin is lying, but the facts would seem to show that maybe he is just talking out his @ss.
  2. No mods except the GPS mount. Its a Honda Civic so cant do to much with it.
  3. I look at it this way, i will compare geocaching to the X-box 360. X-Box 360, about 300 dollars to get a good one Geocaching, about 300 dollars for a good unit ------------------ now here is where it all ends FAST! games for 360=60 dollars a pop, .....let's face it you will get bored on one game fast, so it can add up( i personally own over 20K in games ) X-Box Live Membership ( Gold) 50 dollars a year (I have 4 one for me, my 2 sons and my wife) Geocaching/Groundspeak Premimum membership= 30 dollars.............. HMMMMMMMM, seems like we are getting a awesome deal for our money here, NO????? Last time i checked, servers, HVAC controls for those servers, renting space to house the servers, and the bills, electricty, ETC do not come cheap at all............... NOW finally add in the staff, WE are luckly to be paying $30.00 dollars a year to such a awesome web experience, friend making game, and for something that is a absolute Blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are very right. The servers, and the power they consume alone each month is a huge bill. Then you add in the HVAC, and the amount of power it takes to cool the servers, and you are looking at huge bills being paid each month. Then like you said you have to figure in people's salary into the equation. The people who are being paid are making a nice amount of money. Why may you ask are they paid well, well think about it. These people code, they run servers, they run networks, they are system admins. These are very highly prized skills in this day and age, and in order to keep them they have to be compensated well. So while the OP thinks the money for a PM is just ridiculous, those of us with a clue know better.
  4. They use to hang out here: socalgeocachers.com but not very much anymore. Otherwise, dunno. Good luck. Yeah no kidding.
  5. i am in the Los Angeles area. I am looking for other Cachers in the Los Angeles area to talk to. My Fiancee and I go out to cache, and see logs filled with names, but never any other cachers around. So just wondering who is around the area.
  6. I cache for the adventure that it creates. I love to have adventures, and this takes me on them.
  7. Didnt get a bible, got a huge book with stuff from the UCMJ in it.
  8. Maybe you could do a drop off on your way?
  9. Congrats n your first find. Hope the rest are just as enjoyable.
  10. The ability to hide micros and nanos in places you otherwise could not hide another size makes them more of a challenge to find. This adds to the difficult of the find. I thought that is what made the game fun, trying to find something that others wouldnt normally be able to find.
  11. Forum rule #43 - If you fall under one of the following categories A.)not a founding member of a forum community B.) not directly invited to the forum by a founding member C.) have not yet passed ritualistic forum hazing and won over the hearts of the masses Then you shall not express your own ideas and opinions, rather, you shall do your best to keep up with current topics and win the favor of your forum elders. I mean I'm just going straight from the handbook here... LOL, Where did you get said handbook? My handbook says I have the same rights as anyone else does, and those are the things that I fought for.
  12. Yes people, learn proper thread starting etiquite! 1. Before starting a post you shall search the archives to see if there exists a thread containing your desired topic. PENALTY:20 lashes(posts) Being told to use the search n00b 2. If thread containing your topic exists check last post date. If thread is no longer on the first page then desired topic has been discussed to the extent that <insert hobby here> forum desires to discuss it and it shall not be brought up again. PENALTY: 10 lashes(posts) sarcasticly congratulating you on following the first rule of thread starting etiquite. But if new insight is brought to bring the topic back to a working discussion then according to you it should not be brought back to life. That does not allow for the free flow of ideas, and that is bad. I will agree do not start a new thread of an old topic. You should just resurrect the old one if your point has not been made before.
  13. Most of the stuff she seems to be in is B-Movie material. Also her TV credit lists So you want to be a Superhero. That was a total B-List show. So she wouldnt be considered a celebrity in my book, but I would consider her a B-List actor.
  14. Being able to input lat and long is important, but verify that you are able to change your tomtom into a pedestrian mode also. That will help get you closer to the cache than it would in car mode.
  15. As I am still planning my first hide, and getting everything ready for it I know that the puzzles will be difficult to hide for the most part. I do want people to find them though. I just want them to enjoy the fun that it will be in getting there. If people DNF the final, I will do a simple thing like email them, and ask them what the coordinates are that they used. That way if they were wrong I can let them know.
  16. I was thinking balsa wood planes. I found a great site to buy the old school ones for like 70 something for a box of like 100 I think. Didnt think about pilots wing pins though. Thanx.
  17. So does anyone have any good airplane swag ideas?
  18. I am making sure of it. The cache page once it is published will have all kinds of information about the sites, and history of them, plus pictures.
  19. I was thinking of doing special item for the ftf that will go with the theme of the series.
  20. I am looking for some ideas for nice swag to start a new cache off with. This will be my first cache that I am placing. This cache is going to be difficult as people will have to figure out a different puzzle at each step to get the next set of coordinates. So I would like to put out some nice stuff, but not overly pricey. Any ideas????
  21. Right now I am finding probably 4 out of 5. I can DNF the same cache multiple times and not care. I dont think its about numbers, but more the fun you will have while in the hunt. I have found from nano to ammo can now.
  22. I dont have any yet. Who cares though my Fiancee and I are having a blast.
  23. I use a nuvi 265 for caching, but recently bought a Garmin etrex. I dont know what kind of features the nuvi 500 has, but the 265 was an ok gps for caching. I hated having to always switch it in to pedestrian mode to find a cache though. And it wasnt always accurate due to the limited speed that it requires for its accuracy. I would suggest if you do buy it that you realize its made more for a car than to take walking. If you take into account the limitations of the unit then you should still have a lot of fun caching with it.
  24. There are actually a lot of in LA in a nice park on its many trails that stretch for miles on end.
  25. You dont need to archive any of them. That is the wrong thing to do. Just dont replace the one that was destroyed.
