  1. Run a PQ and add it to your GSAK, anything that did not update with a "Last GPX" is no longer listed, just filter them out. I usually make a GPX file and load it in, then get my PQ for the next day, anything that states "Last GPX" from the day before is usually an archived cache. This is the easiest way I found to remove the archived caches from my GSAK database.
  2. I have done this before, returned to a cache nearby that I knew was there with co-workers, I logged a note with our account, the co-workers do not have an account so they never logged a find online. I try to log each visit, find, return visit or DNF because I like to keep a record for myself.
  3. Uhhh, my legs? My legs gets me there (and sometimes my truck, sometimes not ), but the cache is what entices me to get there
  4. Personally, if it were the same GC number, I would log the second visit as a note. I have visited caches that never moved but need the GPS a second time, change of season and just my memory, heck, I have had a difficult time finding caches I have hidden without the GPS If its not about the numbers, then it should not matter and you log it the way you think you should log it, myself it would be with a note, but I like my numbers .
  5. I think you are looking for geoqueont@malak.ca Welcome back
  6. We just activated one with no problems, go to the following link http://www.geocoins.ca/getcode.php Use the number that is on your coin and the email address you used to order the coin, don't forget to enter then Security code that is on the page and it should give you the activation code for geocaching.com the following link. http://www.geocaching.com/track/activate.aspx Use the number of the coin and the activation code you received from the getcode link, you should be good to go.
  7. A number of caches here are bilingual, most can be done with babelfish, either google or altavista, I use both. All of my local caches are bilingual, but you would have better luck reading the English then my French for which I am sorry. I have received translated descriptions from some of the local cachers and am very greatful for the help on the French portion. This past weekend we made a successful raid of Ile Parrot and Vaudreuil-Dorion (West of Montreal just off the island on highway 20) of multi and puzzle caches. I teamed up with some other local non-French speaking cachers and our answers to the puzzles matched. Of the 6 caches I solved, we searched for 4, found 3 and DNF on 1, I had the correct solution that I confirmed with the cache owner. I only need help from a co-worker on 1 puzzle just to get the wording correct and would most likely made the same mistake if the cache description was in English. Language does not have to be a barrier, just makes the puzzles more interesting, more challenging and more rewarding when you do find the cache. We do alot of our caching in Quebec and only run into 2 problems with language 1) local lingo that my better half does not know (she is bilingual, but we are from New Brunswick so some words are more to the local area) and 2) our PDA does not display French characters properly (any letter with an accent) so we have to try to guess words not in our native tongue. This year I hope the purchase of an old laptop will remedy that problem as well as an offline translation program I picked up (google and altavista require internet access, makes caching on the fly more difficult when you want a translation). I have also found the cachers here to be very friendly and helpful, answering any questions I have. One thing I have noted here, most caches do not have a hint and often, for the traditionals, you only have the co-ordinates, type, size and rating to go on. Therefore even if the caches were English, it would make no difference in finding the cache. It does help that most are correctly rated for difficulty, terrain and for the most part size, I do find some Regulars tend to be on the small size of Regular, Small on 1 was a 35mm canister but all others I would call well camoed small caches and the micro's are correct (I cannot remember any that were not). I did hit my first almost nano (smallest micro I have found anyways) cache this weekend which was rated correctly. Hope you enjoy your trip to Montreal, might see you on the trail
  8. Thank you all, we are hoping to get out to find some more caches, it has been a busy, but rewarding time for us. Now if I can just keep my vehicles on the road we should have fewer problems.
  9. I have to agree, TBs are to travel and not a trade item, often I will trade to take them, but not always. When I drop one off, I do not take anything unless it is another TB. I do not like TB hotels/motels/hostels, when they go missing the contents are always TBs and usually more then one and I rarely follow the rules of the hotel. Don't take one unless you leave one, with this rule, if I take 1 and leave 2, the TBs can build up. I still feel very guilty about trading out most of the TBs and leaving 3 or 4 in a local TB hotel, the TBs I left stayed through a few more visits and then the cache vanished. I've also had a TB stranded for several months in a very busy TB hotel, guess it just did not interest anyone trading for TBs and some had already moved the TB, very frustrating. One thing, if I feel a cache is in a bad place, I will not leave a TB and remove any in the cache, including a TB hotels.
  10. It sounds like you are blaming the victum, and yes, the cache placer would feel just as much as a victum as the cacher who was assaulted here. Had I not walk into the same activity at another park, I would have never known it was taking place and I was looking at hiding a cache there. It is a nice little park, a number of famailies with small childern just 100 meters away so it was not a deserted place, I am still stunned by this and think it is wrong, no matter the orentation and gender.
  11. I am not sure I understand this statement, as one who has on a few occasions interrupted this activity in our public parks, how do you know this is occurring unless you walk into it. The cache involved here was a new cache and the cache placer was not aware of the activities, I don't think the cache should have been archived and removed due to illegal activities of others. I think all users of the park should be able to safely use the park, not only geocachers, had this been a youth just walking through I am very concerned on what could have happened. I have never been directly assaulted, was followed once but they turned around after a very nasty/concerned look in their direction and I still do not know was their intention was but they were back sitting in their car when I left. In all cases, I never blamed the cache owner or that the cache was placed there.
  12. A night cache with a blinking light has been one of the most interesting, challenging and favorite caches I have done
  13. This is done in your profile settings.
  14. Since you are a premium member, if you have a PQ set up for Gadsden, use the preview of the PQ to get the nearest. I do this when I go to my sisters or to my parents in New Brunswick, it will be a nice feature when added but the PQ work around does the job for me right now.
  15. There is one in Ontario Canada, offical chat time is on Wednesdays http://ghcaching.servehttp.com/chat.php
  16. There is an IRC linked off the main forum page, ClayJar's Geocaching Chat I think you can find someone there almost anytime. edit:spelling and was beaten while typing, surprised it took that long actually
  17. No. Huh, I guess "guilty until proven innocent" is fine by you folks. How incredibly sad. Having run into a land owner and kicked off their property, I would say archival is the best policy. The cache owner is notified by the archive log immediately. In that case the cache was relocated and unarchived, we dropped off the original cache at a later date to the new location where the cache owner picked it up. To say the least, when confronted by an angry property owner is not fun. Permission was asked for and aquired when the cache had been placed, as stated on the cache page, but the property was sold and the new owners did not want cachers there at all. The cache owner did not know of the sale.
  18. If approached by police, I would do the same no matter where I was, just be honest in what you are doing and should have no problems. I know in the Ottawa area, as soon as you mention geocaching, they know what you are up to and leave you alone, might even give you a hand in finding it.
  19. GC364C DOUBLE CROSS On my list of must do caches, but that list is getting to long.
  20. I think that you answered yourself there I don't think the advertisments are permitted either, but not much is done and no one is trying to open up a poster. This just sounds like a really bad idea that can cause a number of problems with the power company and police. If you hide one like this and someone finds it, then moves on to the next cache that is not hidden the same way but near a live box, then go poking around the live box because this is where they found a previous one.
  21. Very cool looking charm. And just in the interest of informing others, I do hope you received permission to use the GC logo for those.... Yes, permission was asked and received, the charm design was approved by Groundspeak and royalities are paid for the use and sale of the charm with the GC logo. We also have permission for the CITO logo and are currently working on a charm featuring Signal.
  22. Think that may have been our auction if this was the charm Geocaching Charm We had 2 no payments from the last auction so they are available, just waiting from our supplier before starting another auction on eBay. If interested, email me through our profile here.
  23. My 12CX will only do that projection to the 100m as a direct entry, I use the map screen to get it down to the 10s of meters. When projecting, 1 to 9 meters is well within GPS error, I don't think it would make much of a difference between projecting 120m, 130m or 125m. This is also something I have done, project 120m and 130m, the cache is in that area somewhere, which is about the same area if I were hunting for a traditional cache at the given coords.
  24. Currently sitting at 15.4% with 99 DNF caches (have not looked at repeat DNF visit caches). 36 caches we have to return for another look, 27 Never to find due to be archived now and 36 that were DNF but found on a return visit. Went caching today, found 5 and DNF 2 so we had a good day I think , considering 1 was confirmed missing and disabled a day after out PQ, the other was in a busy area and we gave up after some discrete searching. We might give up a little to quick sometime, but we enjoy ourselves and the 641 caches we have searched for
  25. Wow, 2 days from paper to speaking with the town council, I'm impressed with the turn around of the situation. I also do not see how the OGA could have been more actively involved without the chance meeting, sending an email to start with is a great start, without a response how do you proceed? Call? Mail? I think 2 days is more then anyone could have anticipated. Thanks Nozzletime for taking the time to drive out there for photos of the site and meeting with the town council when the opportunity presented. The way the story was presented in the paper, I highly doubt that a retraction will be printed, but at least the town will not be requesting any caches in the town be removed. I have seen a number of caches removed over the years in my area, good to see this one get turned around so quickly. OGA Reps for the region of Prescott and Russell.
