  1. I noticed there are 'Great Story' and 'Helpful' option to select in e-logs. There is also a sort menu - sortable by newest, oldest or best story. I really like the idea. I'm hoping it will encourage geocachers to write better stories. When was this feature implemented?
  2. Agreed, Snowdog. My reasons were as you described - to find 1,000 in a day (we accomplished this with a four-man team in ONE van taking 22.5 hours), to stay at Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel and to enjoy the camaraderie with my friends in Las Vegas.
  3. My parody of Eagles' Desperado - mocking (in fun) daily streakers: Desperate streaker, why don't you come to your senses? You been out spyin' fences for soaked logs now Oh, you're a hard head I know that you got your dailies These logs that are pleasin' you Can hurt your love life Don't you crawl between the diamond backs They'll eat you if they're able You know the cleanest park is always your best bet Now it seems to me your findings Have been raised up and unstable But you only want the ones that you don't have Desperate streaker, oh, you ain't gettin' no closer Your pain in your shoulder, hurts drivin' to home And freedom, oh freedom, well, that's just out of the question Your prison is caching through the days all alone But your streak gets old in the winter time This guy won't slow and his son will cry It's hard to tell the right time to say nay You're losin' all your friends you know Ain't it funny how the people go away? Desperate streaker, why don't you cache only weekends? Can't drive through those fences, open the gate. It may be rainin', but there's a bison above you You better let somebody help you (get some mental treatment) You better let somebody help you Before it's too late.
  4. I've been lucky . . . or just not getting off the beaten path much. The scariest for me was being the passenger in a car that turned left into a cemetery. A young driver crested the hill at a rapid rate of speed on a rainy day and nearly T-boned me going probably 60 MPH.
  5. Boy, that geocache screams typical - camo tape, beads, golf ball, etc. Love it.
  6. This is happening to me. I have a few more days until premium membership is downgraded yet I'm unable to update my card information. I've tried IE, FF and Chrome, to no avail. It's not a Java issue. I've submitted a trouble ticket to GS and waiting their response.
  7. Yes, that's exactly it. Thank you. I've not visited this geocache but have heard the story numerous times.
  8. Exactly, if they are thinking about it, they are learning. If they answer the questions mostly correctly, they are demonstrating knowledge. Besides, passing is passing, doesn't have to be perfect.
  9. Excellent. I will be using this approach in the future. I would never delete an EC log due to my perception of incorrect answers. The point is to get folks to visit the site, think about it geologically and absorb the wonder of it ... not to be graded on a pop quiz.
  10. Last July, a TV series aired about Chicago serial killer H. H. Holmes. The team was investigating an area and gave the intersection of roads. This geocache is there related to H. H. Holmes.
  11. Do you ever see a cemetery on a television show or movie, make out a name on a marker, search for the name in Find A Grave, locate the cemetery based on the set location and look for geocaches in the cemetery? I do.
  12. You're correct. I have the page in your screenshot bookmarked in Firefox.
  13. I just visited the page. Stats updated 3/20. Seems to be fine for me.
  14. I understand and respect your point here. However, I will argue signing a log on their behalf is including them in the community and the online logging aspect of the game. I support that over stiff rules if it brings joy to another human. I've done both. I've refused to e-log geocaches I know are beyond my physical or comfort limits. I've also logged geocaches within my limits but didn't see the point in ten people making a simple six-foot climb to simply satisfy the spirit of the hide.
  15. The builder requires a single answer per lab. With the logging grace period and GPSr finders having to log at a later time from a PC, the answer must remain the same in the current system.
  16. The codes I setup were not temporary signs and most of them not easily googled, such as the word on the newspaper box, the animal painted on the box on the porch, the initials etched into the sidewalk, etc. I like the idea of having to gather data from multiple sites at GZ. I believe what we will do in the future is not activating the link until minutes before and possibly not inputting questions/answers until go live.
  17. I may be incorrect, but I believe there is a back door also. I designed the labs for the 16th Annual TXGA Challenge & Festival held a couple weeks ago. I was at the starting point of the adventure and noticed many geocachers there ready for the starting bell. I asked and a couple told me they knew the locations beforehand by clicking on the leaderboard link. Also, many geocachers in Europe logged them within seconds of going live . . . seconds. How is that? As of yesterday, the adventure has had 1,030 participants, while the mega event has 394 attended logs. I wonder if GS can do something about the bogus logs or if it's simply not a high priority.
  18. It doesn't bother me. I don't own a virtual, but do own several earthcaches. I've been asked for permission to log my ECs from a past visit. I say go for it.
  19. Oh, I don't believe geocat_ is whining about the selection process, rather just curious about it. I'm equally curious. I'm not in the know at Groundspeak and can't speculate, but I don't know how releasing the algorithm would hurt unless they're protecting proprietary information. I believe we've mostly come to accept that the business is not the most transparent to its customer base.
  20. Absolutely I would've been thrilled if selected but I'm equally thrilled to have the possible opportunity to find new virtual geocaches close to home.
  21. This may be controversial and met with disdain or, at the very least, meh, but saying time-based challenges are silly is also silly. Many folks don't like LPCs but GS hasn't banned them because they may be silly. After all, when boiled down, it's a hobby. Isn't finding a box in the woods as silly as a time-based challenge?
