So now in English, I will do my best: There are not only local cachers in Scotland. In Summer there are also a lot of cachers from other countries hunt for caches. Its usually that you not logged the founds at the same day or week because you had no web-access. When you have no field notes you forget which cache "needs maintenance". You only logged a found. (Hopefully you wrote more than TFTC). Usually I had a FirstAid-Kit for caches with me: logbooks in different sizes, small bags, silica gel and Lock&Locks in differenz size in the car. So I did the maintenance when I had the stuff with me and it was necessary. I wrote this in the log. And when I was not able to help, then I wrote it in the log too and set the NM-flag. And describe the situation (log was full or it was damp or wet ...)
  2. I had the HX5. When I place a cache I forget my GPS. Ok, I had the camera with me. Made some spoilers and two days later I return with the GPS. The coordinates from the camera was over 400m off! (I used the right system!) So forget it, use GoogleMaps or a paper maps. Or a smartphone with camera and GPS-App By the way the camera makes very good films and fantastic photos
  3. ok, I'm not from UK. I had reached over 1,000 founds until I hide my first cache. In my homezone there are no nice places for a cache anymore. Not for a small or bigger. I don't wan't hide a film canister as my first one. I was looking for something special and not the next tree, wall, copse or similar. I had found my own way to give something back to the community without hide a cache. I did maintaine/repair a cache when I found a cache which was damaged and have the stuff with me (little bags, tape, stripes for logs) and I write honest logs and no short logs. Its so much better to hide no or only a few but good caches then a lot of trash. Quality not Quantity.
  4. Hello I need a volunteer who read and corrected a listing. I translate my german text to english. The cache itself is not enabled. More information and the listing via mail. Thanks.
  5. Hello When you log a cache online under the edit field for the log there should be a list of the TBs in you inventory. There you can choose -> dropped off, for all or for a single TB. So have fun tonight
  6. Yep, when you are outside and found there the coordinates for the next stage, but not when you prepared you evening walk or the waypoints are given in the listing
  7. You have not to plotting the coordinates manually. You only need a USB cable. On the cache site, in the box with the coordinates are four buttons: LOC waypoint file | GPX file | Send to My GPS | Send to My Phone Connect the Etrex with the PC, put it on and then click "Send to My GPS" (when the plugin is missing, usual the download start automatically to install the plugin). Thats it. You have the cache on the GPS. The waypoint name is the GC code and you have the correct coordinates.
  8. Hello Helen You can modify the waypoint. When you mark you current position you can edit the coordinates you can move with the pin up to the field where the coordinates are (before click "ok"). It is display in another colour, then push the pin and you the numeric values. The Pin is something like the "Return" Key

  10. In Berlin is a small round of 4 caches which are found at good weather conditions with pedal boat You can find the 4 within an hour which is the usual time for boat hire there. Makes a lot of fun and laugh doing this in a team up to 4 (or more then one boat). One of them was hiding from the bank but could reach from the water very easy. The others must be hide while boating.
  11. I using the formular: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=request How would you categorize this request?: General inquiries But it seems that other has the same problem. Perhaps I was one of the first which report it. Then more people report it and it was to much to corrected the date for this people one by one. So it was more important to resolve the issue. You have a reference-number. Wait until tomorrow after the update. And when nothing changes to you issue you contact them with the reference number like it was written in the confirmation for the request.
  12. It seems this is a general problem. I had a similar problem last week. Before sending the request, the date was correct. In the confirmation mail the date when the BasicMembership has started was used. Had write an email and it was corrected in 24h. In "Getting Started" another cacher has the same problem -> http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=273377
  13. I had the same problems last week. My renewal date is also the 6th of May for PM, starting Basic membership was 11th of April. Before send the request the date was correct: 06/05/2011 to 06/05/2012, after sending the request the date was now: 11/04/2011 to 11/04/2012. I send an email via the support site (I think as a general request) where I described what happend -> that the date was changed/choose the not automatically renewal of membership. After some minutes I get the reference-number. And within 24h a second mail, with apologize and the message that the date is now corrected and that they investigate this issue.
  14. Hello My name is Kerstin, I'm living in Lower Saxony/Germany, so sorry when my english is a little bit funny. This summer I will visit Scotland the 5th time and the second time as a geocacher. I'm there on my own, so I'm looking for other geocachers which search with me for some caches on a hike or only for a pint of ale/cider/coke or whatever in a pub. My favourites are the Highlands and Western Isles. I had a timetable because the bookings for ferry, B&Bs/hostel are confirmed. Something about me? I'm in the early 30es and since a year geocacher infected by some colleagues. Because of a girlfriend I'm reached nearly 1000founds in a year. She likes powercaching and is the navigator/give the direction for our common rounds with car and biclye, I'm the car driver and help searching the cache. When I'm alone I do geocaching for going out of the house. And on my vacation to see places where I have never been without it or making long walks and hikes even when the weather is awful or things like that. But without to take a risk. I'm not very fast up the hills but have no problems with long distances. My timetable fot the summer: At the first week of June I stay in Killin for a week. Last year the weather was to bad to make "3 in a row". There are some other nice hikes around like "not for couchpotatoes" or "Beinn Dothaid". Or when the weather is to bad for a munro, caches that are not so high. Killin is followed by two days near Kilmartin / Ardfern before I startet with Islandhopping South to North on the Outer Hebrides. In the middle of June I'm a few days on Lewis&Harris before arrive on Skye, where I stay for over a week at Loch Slapin at the end of the B8083. On my last days on vacation I'm at Loch Hourn for 3 days. A long single track roads with dead end and caches along the route. So, when someone is interesting to cache with me or on a pint in a pub, answer here or contact me per mail or Skype or facebook (little challenge to find me there ) Kerstin (or better Matty, which is easier for english speakers *g* )
