  1. Sprint PCS actually has a wireless data card that can be used for internet access, rather than the PCS phone/USB cable/SnapSync Software setup. They also have special monthly data-only plans you can sign up with.
  2. Still, I certainly wouldn't mind it if emergency services could find me in the woods or on back roads when I dial 911. Of course, the downside I've heard is that this could potentially lead to targeted advertising a la "Minority Report".
  3. quote:I busted my *** to serve my country, AND I HAVE EARNED MY RIGHTS! Tough ---- for you if I use them, huh? Hmm, last I checked military service or support wasn't a requirement to earn our right to free speech. I can appreciate the freedoms we have just as much as anyone, and I'm glad someone was there to fight for them when the country was founded. That doesn't mean that I won't stand up to be a voice of dissent when I feel that I must. That's my duty as a citizen. Sure, it would be easy to just kick out non-warmongers, and while we're at it, how about non-christians, immigrants and everyone else who happens to be in the minority. I don't think we'd have much of an "America" left then. Anyway... Flask is right on the money here. With the current state of the world, when the general public is told to be on the lookout for "suspicious behavior", people (or Sheeple, as many could be termed) are all too eager to be the one pointing their finger at the "evil". People love gossip, and want to tell their friends that they "called the cops on a terrorist". I'm actually looking forward to being asked why I'm acting so "suspiciously". E Pluribus Unum, -Milgren
  4. Hmm, I always thought that Meridians could only use 64MB or smaller cards anyway. I don't have one myself but I seem to remember reading that when I was out shopping for one. Is there something I'm missing? Do the 128MB cards work in the units in circumstances other than the one in the stated topic? ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  5. Cacheatolla, was this the thread you were looking for? Sorry your thread got sidetracked there.
  6. I could be mistaken, but those rebates will sometimes say that the checks are sent 8-10 weeks after the end of the promotion. I just mailed in an Office Depot rebate that was set up that way, but then the rebate was only offered for about a month anyway. I will check the information on the RadioShack rebate tomorrow when I go to work (at a RadioShack) and see what I can find out. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  7. I was checking out the profile of a fellow Where's George member whose bill I had just hit. It mentioned this thing called 'Geocaching', so I checked it out. I registered here right away and began reading the forums, but didn't actually get my GPSr until a month or two later.
  8. I'm glad this thread found its way back to the first page. I just came from the BMV, and they have a sign proudly stating "Passport Photo's Taken Here" ARGH!
  9. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot:Is that what they do in Texas? I've seen literally hundreds of WG dollars in caches, and I've never seen one used as a travel bug nor have I ever seen a note attached to one suggesting that it should only circulate via caches. I actually found one like this in Ohio. It was sealed in a plastic bag with instructions indicating that it should be passed on only in caches.
  10. Okay, even I don't have a problem with this cache. It sounds like a neat location regardless of the symbolism. Nobody should take it upon themselves to remove a cache in the name of removing religion from geocaching, and this is coming from a member of several organizations who would try to have a huge cross removed if it were on public property (like the one in San Francisco). If a cache has a religious theme and is going to be loaded with pamphlets or other non-tradables, then I think it should be noted on the cache page. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't search for the cache, I would just like to know what to expect. What bothers me is when proselytizing religious material finds its way into regular caches as an attempt to share somebody's "good news". To me, that is no different than business cards or political candidate campaign material. If religious items come in the form of a tradable item such as a cross necklace or bracelet, then that's no problem. For the record, most nonbelievers do not want to force their views on anyone. We would just prefer that our governing bodies remain neutral and not endorse any religion. We're not something to be afraid of, really! Your friendly neighborhood atheist, -Milgren
  11. I figure that placing the WG dollars into caches is how I would naturally circulate the bills. Several times I've run across unmarked dollar bills in caches already, and I suppose that if I weren't into WG, I'd probably still use plain dollars as trade items. When I find the WG bills, I give them the hit and see if the owner intends them to stay in geocaches. If not, I spend them on lunch.
  12. I don't do "morals", as I prefer "ethics", but I see no problem with caching in places of the dead. I've done three or four caches that were in graveyards, and they were all handled very well. The problem I run into at these caches is that I never have enough room to carry away all of the trash (empty glass candle holders, torn up wreaths, etc.) from the woods nearby. That goes for caches behind churches as well. I live fairly close to a large cemetary, and frequently take long walks through it, both for the exercise and to take in the beautiful scenery. It is much nicer than any of the parks in town, and something that could be shared with others by placing a cache, though I haven't done it yet.
  13. I haven't really had any trouble using my Sprint PCS phone to access Geocaching via the WAP link. You can access nearest cache information and get coordinates, but don't expect much more than that. Keep in mind that the 3G services are relatively new (I think Sprint just launched theirs last Fall), and that the technology can only grow from here. When you sign up for PCS Vision, you are usually assigned an email address at sprintpcs.com, which is accessible via the phone. Some web mail services (Yahoo?) can be set up to be used with wireless phones as well, I believe. By the way, I work at RadioShack, which includes selling Sprint PCS and Verizon phones. I get to play with them pretty often, so I'm at least a little familiar with most current models. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  14. http://www.geocaching.com/wap/ I use it on my Sprint PCS.
  15. Before this gets locked down, I'll add my thoughts. The media just LIVES for this kind of thing. It's gotten so that even when you're out of the house they won't let your mind have a rest. I was in a store today and there on a TV was more speculation and a hazy green glow. Yippee. The sad thing is that a lot of people can't get enough of it, even if there's really very little substance in the "reporting". I'm looking at other sources (outside of the country) for my news. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  16. There. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  17. ...with results sent to my crap email address. I switched off the exclusive filter for a minute to receive the message and then turned it on again. Guess they want your testing experience to feel good so you'll not block their future solicitations as quickly. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  18. I've had my Sprint PCS phone for about a month and didn't know this! I'll check it out right now! ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  19. I've done the "Good Eats" thanksgiving menu for the past two years now. It's always nice to get compliments on the meal! Thankfully, I've never had to endure "reality TV". Here's hoping I never will. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  20. Guess nobody told the 'Dell Dude' to stay away from the stuff! Yahoo! 'Dell Dude' story ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  21. I just fixed that issue on my father-in-law's computer yesterday. Seems like the latest update to the program automatically enables that attachment removal feature. Are they getting paranoid? ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  22. There are billboards around here advertising "Sofa's $399". I can't stand it. This one's going out to everyone on my list. ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
  23. My dad works at SRU over in Computing Services (or Administrative Information Systems, whatever it's called now). I'd be interested in coming back to PA for a geocacher get together sometime. Count me in! ---------------------------------------------------------- Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, You will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea.
