  1. There's a big hayfield up near Buxton. You know where Buxton is? It's got a long rock wall with a big oak tree at the north end. It's like something out of a Robert Frost poem. you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. Sorry, no more hints, the coordinates are posted on geocaching.com, this is a 2/3 hide, you should have no problem finding it.
  2. This is for all cachers in and around the City of Jefferson, Georgia. I received official permission from the Parks and Rec director for the placement of Geocaches in any of their parks. This includes the sports complex that covers 99 acres of predominately wooded land. The director is the one that suggested we use that land for geocaching, it is welcomed there. I was considering hogging all this information for myself, but I think I can only juggle maintaining about 3 caches, I am planning one in there, but there is room for a couple more. (someone can post this on the GGA forum too, I am not yet approved for posting their )
  3. I think it is one of these: http://www.myeyeglasscase.com/index.cfm/a/...20758/catid/209 and it doesn't seal tight...
  4. Computer geeks in my family, even my 5yo son, who will, by the way, be starting scouts this fall :-). I was in Indian Guides because they didn't make you wear a skirt :-p We are all pretty good with math and numbers and enjoy number riddles and puzzles and such (not Sudoku). I played D&D all through college (undergrad and grad), also a little Gamma World. Not into computer games much though. Me and my son play World of Cars. Love snakes, none in the family right now though.
  5. Throwing stuff away into the trash so it goes to a landfill is not exactly eco-friendly. That action alone shows that she does not see the big picture.
  6. When your 5 year old son sees a black box behind the bushes as you enter the mall and says "geocache"! (when really it is a mouse trap) and then later when walking through a parking lot with shrubs and pinestraw in the medians he says "this would be a good place to hide a cache" and you you were thinking the same thing...
  7. Probably true... good luck getting it resolved! Happy caching.
  8. I like going with my little partner, but having these guys along would be fun too...
  9. (wow, cool string!) Our family name (from my husband) is Arabic "Azami" , there is also a Japanese word "azami" meaning "thistle", so I have been using this cross-language pun for various things. My 5 year old partner loves to race and loves race cars, so I came up with ThistleRacers for caching.
  10. Put on jeans, boots, long sleeve turtle neck shirt, long dishwashing gloves. Use elastic or tape to keep your pants tight to your ankles and the gloves tight around you arms, put an extra set of gardening gloves over the long dish gloves and pull the stuff up, it comes up pretty easily. Our leaf and limb pick up says it is ok to put poison ivy in the lawn bags...don't know if all are like that. DO NOT BURN IT (but I guess everyone knows not to do that) Afterward be very careful how you undress, put everything straight into the wash and use a bit of bleach. Wash your boots off with Clorox wipes. It's a hassle, but if you want to clear the area around your cache on someone else's property, this a chemical free way.... But I personally would get permission even to do this...but that's just me... This is how I get rid of poison ivy in my yard.
  11. Woohoo! I'm in! 10 for 10 Actually I thought of 2 to add that would knock me out.... 11. placed at least 1 cache (I am waiting for permission red tape) 12. record less than 1 DNF a month (I am at about 1 a week right now ) (*minor typo edit)
  12. As someone who reads through logs and what people say in their logs can help me prioritise caches that I want to go for, I truly appreciate it when people speak their mind. As long as the wording makes it clear that these are your opinions. If someone saying "this cache sucked because blah blah blah." is not helpful, but saying "I didn't enjoy it much, not really into blah blah blah..." in my opinion, would be fine. or like what 4wheelin_fool said.
  13. OK, that's just cool! (the wedding thing) when you see a camo SUV and think, hey, now that would make a great container!
  14. Can't sign soggy log book. I have two where we didn't sign because of water-logged logs....with one the CO changed it the next day after I reported it, the other cachers have been reporting it for 7 months and CO is unresponsive. If CO replaces log should I go sign it if it is nearby? (wouldn't be possible if some one was travelling though...)

    FTF'S

I am just a regular member and I think premium members should have the privileged of getting notifications and pocket queries. I want to be a premium member, it isn't very expensive, but right now our family is on an "only essentials" budget we need our expenses to level out... But I think it is OK that people who help pay for the services Groundspeak provides should get those special services. Thank you premium members - and go get those FTFs!
  16. Me and my son (soon to be 6) are our team. He takes various things, but always something...it differs with his mood and what is in the cache. I liked the handmade knotted choker he got from a recent cache. I am like simpler1773, I get much of my swag from thrift stores and flea markets, but nothing I wouldn't want myself. little nicknacks, paper weights...this past weekend I was in a book store that had a bunch of items up front for .75¢ to $1 like a mini slinky, little box of neon clay...I picked up a few items there too. I personally have traded for a small tin and a bracelet from a cause I support...I would take a cool nicknack too. I don't expect to find more expensive swag that some people talk about. I like geocaching for the sport of it and I like the swag to encourage kiddo to go with me :-) (but now he is into it and ready to try some micros and nanos too :-)
  17. I Just hope people using permethrin read safety warnings regarding its use. Keep it way from water. If your clothes are sprayed down with it and you have to wade through water you can kill some of the small fish near wear you walked. It is very toxic to fish (and anything cold blooded). I live in a low risk of lyme disease area, so I truly choose a tick bite or two over a potential carcinogen that could effect local wildlife. But If i go caching up in a high-risk area, I may choose to use it, but will be careful around water. Everything depends on the situation. Citronella and Deet do not kill, they just repel, so if you are covered well enough you shouldn't get them on you. just, please investigate any chemicals pro's and con's before jumping in an just using it. Even herbal pros and cons, for example pure citronella could be a problem for people prone to eczema. Just my 2 cents...
  18. after coming home with loads of ticks 2 weekends ago (we had no repellent on ), read on a Google search that deet works for ticks too, so sprayed our selves AND our clothes and shoes with Cutters Skinsation. Didn't bring any home this weekend. We also use Skin-so-soft and just straight citronella oil sometimes and these too ward off ticks. There is a citronella bar soap you could shower with before you head out (I think we will pick one of these up next time we are at a natural food store) , But I would still put something on your clothes and shoes because if you bring them home they could still get you later, the live 3 months or more. Happy Caching!
  19. Okay! Now this is a fantastic use of GPS technology! Mapping foot paths and trails. Another way the geocaching community can help the general public. Like CITO, only this one could be Cache In Path Out :-D! Awsome, truly awesome, I am all for it!
