  1. I just tried installing and running it on our M5 and it locked up. Rebooted 3 times Got as far as walk 165' part of the tutorial once. Version 2.0.4907.4007 Guess we won't be playing
  2. Did that, they don't get it, both NYAdmin and Michael. And I can't get a straight answer out of them either. So a series of 4 challenging quality caches will be turned into a couple of challenging multis and a couple boring plain old caches if they ever approve them.
  3. We're talking about 4 caches along a 3 mile loop trail that have to be done durning the day. Added to the three caches that have to be done at night I hardly think constitutes saturation. Also any part of any of the caches, ie part 1, 2 or final of a multi, was more then .1 from any other part so there would be room for future caches according to the current guidelines. We're also talking about an area that hasn't had a new cache placed in it since 2005 so it's not like everyone is running out there to place a cache. Locally were seeing too many micros in piles of garbage at road side pull offs and not enough quality caches in the woods. If this is the direction Groundspeak wants the game to go then their succeeding. What would most of you rather do, spend 2 hours doing a series of challenging multis along a 3 mile loop trail in the woods netting you 4 smilies or spend the same time driving from guardrail to dumpster to fence post finding micros? I understand the saturation problem fully but it doesn't apply to this case or particular area.
  4. Can someone explain the purpose/point of the guideline that reads: "If you want to create a series of caches (sometimes called a “Power Trail”), the reviewer may require you to create a multi-cache, if the waypoints are close together. A series of caches that are generally intended to be found as a group are good candidates for submission as a single multicache." It's listed under Cache Saturation This was one of the best caches we've found, Dusk 'til Dawn, GCNKF3 And this guideline is stopping us from placing a daytime version along the same loop trail. This area is far from saturated and there would be no proximity issue with any of the parts of our new caches and the existing caches.
  5. Long Island Geocaching Organization has a new web page! CLick Here!
  6. How about swapping them around via snail mail to help them reach their goal locations faster? I swapped one going to North Carolina for one going to New York! The NY one is now 20 miles from it's goal! Now we've got one going to Egypt. Anyone in Egypt got one going to the US that they'd like to swap? How about Middle East to North America?
  7. Thanks Marshall. I'll try to get it in the mail tomorrow.
  8. I found a travel bug that is trying to get to Escondido. I'm trying to find a cacher that would be willing to have it mailed to them and place in a cache there. Anyone interested? Peter
  9. If the idea is to make it recognizable by people unknowledgeable about NY I don't see how the Albany skyline, finger lake scratch marks, mountain, forest or lighthouse will do it. If the idea is to teach someone something about NY then what better then the state bird, tree, flower & song. Four colors, four items no regional bickering. And I bet at least half the people in NY can't name them all. Seems like a logical solution.
  10. Being from Long Island I like the lighthouse. However, why not eliminate all the regional representation and have the State Bird: Bluebird; Flower: Rose; Tree: Sugar Maple State Song: I Love New York. Four colors, four official state symbols!
  11. We got that set from Target and most of them are smaller. Too small for a WJTB for instance. One shoe box size and one larger(maybe 3 shoe boxes). Not a bad deal. The smaller ones are easy to hide but not a lot of room for swag.
  12. Thanks for the reply, sounds like what I'm looking for. Any idea what a WiFi SD card runs? And am I correct in thinking I could then use it at home on my wireless network as well as in airports and cyber cafes and any where there is an accessible wireless network?
  13. I'm thinking of buying an M5. Can it actually be used as a pocket pc? Meaning can you get up on the internet and run a query and download all the caches into it and then go find them. Or in other words while away from home will it take the place of my PC,Palm & GPS? See I'm thinking of taking a road trip and it would be nice to cache along the way but I don't know exactly where I will go or via what routes so planning ahead is about impossible.
  14. Shirley, We just started geocaching and found our first benchmark near a cache. That's what got me to look them up. I use my work coordinates for lunch time searches and that's how I discovered the tower was a benchmark, what a surprise. I'll start looking for them more often. There are two cache's right down the road but neither uses the tower that I know of. I'm getting ready to put out a few caches of my own and I like your idea. How do you encorporate the benchmarks into a cache? Peter
  15. Never mind, just found it. Thanks anyway
  16. I just got around to looking up benchmarks and it turns out I work under one. I told this to my girlfriend and she asked me "what's a benchmark?". I looked but couldn't find an answer for her. Anybody? :
