  1. Since you are only 12 right now...nothing is safe! That won't change until you are in your mid-twenties by the way!
  2. Cornerstone and I have been discussing a possible alternative, a "Boys Night Out" at Hooters in Temecula. I wonder how many SD people might be interested in that? I'd fly in for some hooters action. Umm......that's sounds bad. Strike that. (ahem) I'd fly in for some H TERS action. --TT-- (I'd go) Snake and I took our buddy Mr. Trovamo out for a few beers last night to celebrate Mr. Trovamo completing his masters program, and his impending graduation this weekend. Mr. Trovamo said he was going to submit a 7-7-7 event at the Temecula Hooters...so keep your eyes peeled...literally!
  3. I had the same problem with my Vista C. I emailed Garmin, and they sent me a new band, and the double-sticky tape to adhere it. The tape is die-cut to fit exactly around the sides. It was real easy, Garmin didn't charge me, and it hasn't had the same problem since. Dave How has it been since you made the replacement? It worked fine. I think the glue on the new tape may have been a bit better...however, I only used it for 3 or 4 months after the fix. Then I got my 60CSX. We still use the Vista C when we are all out together, but it doesn't get as much use as before... It was easy, and it was cheap, and it made a great improvement...so I think you should do it!

Isn't it like an "enhanced" Denny's? I think they are famous for their buffalo wings or something like that... I've been to Hooters once, but I can't remember what I ate... If you like the resteraunt, you should try the hotel! Do roomservice and the maids all wear the typical getup?
  5. It's been a few years since I have been there, and I know for sure one of my favorites has been archived. If they are still there, Sunglass Cache, and Nakalele Blowhole were two good ones we did. Aloha
  6. Hey Dave! (And all of you other Colorado cachers!) I finally got a chance to visit your state. We stayed a couple of nights in Durango while we were on our short roadtrip last week. I only grabbed a few caches, but it was still a great time. Next time, Durango will be our destination, rather than a stop on our journey! One of our activites was a "Rails and Trails" trip with a local outfitter. They took us by bus up to Silverton, and told us we would go on a jeep tour to some ghost towns via 4X4 roads...well, my idea of a jeep tour, and theirs was a bit different! Of course, it snowed on the way up, and the "jeep" was a 4WD truck with bench seats mounted on the bed. Our heads were above the cab, so as he drove, and the snow came down...we were freezing! When we got to Howardsville, there was a cache about 800 feet away...I wimped out, and didn't get out from under the blanket! When we got to Animas Forks, I just couldn't leave without finding one of the caches up there! Here is a shot of some of the buildings still standing up there.

  8. Thanks for the ID Harmon...I thought they were cicadas! Does anyone know what this is? We found it by a cache in New Mexico. The log showed we were the first visitors since November, so I think this little guy got spooked from his nest. It's eyes weren't even open yet. It kept making a loud chirping noise that was answered by another one under the tree. We moved the one out in the open back under the tree next to the other one, and they got quiet again.
  9. Well, this wasn't in San Diego...but I haven't posted here in a while! While heading through the top of Texas on our way to Carlsbad Caverns, I stopped for a short jaunt up a hill on a mountain pass. The cicadas were so noisy, it was unbelievable. This guy was making so much noise!
  10. That Vermont couple looks vaguely familiar. If they have poison oak in Vermont then that guy in the back is probably sitting in it. Well, I'm not sure if they have PO there, but they do have poison ivy...and that has leaves of 3 as well.
  11. *scours forum list* We have an off-topic forum? Was this humor? Nope...not humor. You can't see the Off-Topic forum unless you are a premium member. All kinds of crazy stuff in there. Now, the real hidden gems are only found if you are a platinum member!
  12. I wouldn't touch a snake, but I have found a foolproof method of getting them to slither off into the brush. All I have to do is reach for my camera, and off they go, never to be seen again. Now bees ... I won't mess with bees. Bees are no problem! I bought this suit to remove a hive that was in my shed...now I carry it with me so I can handle bees! (Edit to add picture link)
  13. Now, with the invention of online groups, some folks have changed the analogy a bit... They think since they have 10 fingers and two eyes...they should type 5 times more than they read!
  14. Nope, I didn't forget about you...or anyone else that has made a request! I got the samples in last week, and needed to make a minor color adjustment. Other than that, they were fantastic! I won't have anything i-hand until after GW-V, so all you traders go have fun and we'll talk when you get back!
  15. Well, I think I was holding my breath the whole time! The process was incredibly smooth! In fact, I asked my 11-year-old what he thought when I had finished...and he said, "I was hoping for some more action!" Here are a couple of the pics...I have more that I will be uploading to a Photobucket account I just made. I won't tie up too much bandwidth here since it isn't really caching related. This is a shot of the exposed hive after I removed plywood panel in the ceiling. The actual size is a semi-sphere about the size of a soccer ball. Here I am in my bee suit. That is one of the five combs that made up the hive. I mounted them in frames that I modified to be able to secure the comb in-place. This shot shows some of the frames with the comb mounted that are in the new hive box. After I had all the comb in the new box, the bees started tearing the comb apart and trying to move it back to the shed. I placed the smoker in the shed, and the smoke drove all the bees out. They then made a big swarm on the entrance they had been using. I grabbed a few handfuls, and placed them on the landing strip of the hive, and the majority entered the new hive. I noticed a few bees sitting outside the entrance fanning their wings rapidly...I figured it was some sort of signal. After a few minutes, I set up a ladder by the shed, and moved the hive on top of the ladder. This brought it to within a foot of the old hive entrance. The bees signaling with their wings got the attention of the rest of the swarm, and they all left the shed wall and entered the new hive. Yesterday, the collectors were busily bringing pollen and nectar into their new hive!
  16. As I was reading your post, I realized we regularly hear from agnostic, athiestic, and Christian cachers...but none of the other groups you listed. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know any Hindu, Muslim, or Hebrew cachers? As to the rest of your comments, I am a Christian, I sometimes leave my personal coin, or another Christian themed coin as a sig item...but I get really irritated if I see a stack of any type of propaganda in a cache. Leave a signature item, but save the preaching and campaigning for a street corner somewhere.
  17. Well the Pagan name generator said my name is Ron Jeremy. Now I feel fat. There are oh so many comebacks here...but unfortunately, all of them will spike my warning meter!
  18. Acutally, only some of the custom shaped coins actually have a point... The overwhelming majority are round with smooth edges! I hope that helps.
  19. Here is one with God, politics, and global warming! Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore were in an airplane that crashed. They're up in heaven, and God's sitting on the great white throne. God addresses Al first. "Al, what do you believe in?" Al replies, "Well, I believe that the combustion engine is evil and that we need to save the world from CFCs and that if any more freon is used, the whole earth will become a greenhouse and we'll all die." God thinks for a second and says "Okay, I can live with that. Come and sit at my left." God then addresses Bill. "Bill, what do you believe in?" Bill replies, "Well, I believe in power to the people. I think people should be able to make their own choices about things and that no one should ever be able to tell someone else what to do. I also believe in feeling people's pain." God thinks for a second and says "Okay, that sounds good. Come and sit at my right." God then address Hillary. "Hillary, what do you believe in?" "I believe you're in my chair."
  20. I can't say as I've ever seen that statue before...but I've seen plenty of those signs when searching out Team GeoRangers caches!
  21. But why do they have to copy the lame hides?? People copy the hides that they like. Exactly!
  22. I don't agree with this. There is a local cacher that doesn't have enough time to participate. However, the few caches she has placed have been very creative, and she got a ton of great feedback. I always look forward to her hides. There is also another cacher that has proven herself to be very adept at camoflage. Not a huge numbers person, but what she puts out is quality stuff. One of my best buds that I introduced to caching fell in love with skirt-lifters, guard rail, and fence cap hides! To my chagrine, he quickly had nearly 100 of those types of hides out! I took a lot of flak from some of the other locals for the proliferation of "lame" hides. I talked to him about them, and tried to get him to raise the bar a bit, but he told me to read the logs on his caches...sure enough, many of them had glowing logs from other new cachers! He told me that he thought he was doing the game a service by putting out easy finds to help folks get a start in the game before they graduate to difficult hides...I told him I thought he was just encouraging more folks to put out caches like that... We still don't agree, but he's still my bud! You know, C4, that guy has a point. If all the caches up in your area were as creative as yours, including "Tower of Power," newbies would never find any caches and they would take up golf, or paintball, or . . . Thank you! I have a few successful hides...but I have my fair share of lameness out there too!
  23. I'll bet that $5 insect bomb is looking better and better For those of you, like my friend Snake here, that know me...you will recognize the flawed reasoning I have used to make a decision about my bee problem. (The rest of you will just continue to laugh at me.) Price to have the beekeeper remove my bee hive- $175.00 Price to buy a full bee suit with helmet- $110.00 Price for a ready-made hive box- $56.00 Price for a smoker- $39.00 Having Snake video tape me removing my own beehive- Priceless!
