  1. wahoo! thanks for the reply. just sucessfully loaded my first pq. so much easier than loading each individual cache!!!
  2. I think I figured it out, seems to be related to the 200 GPX file limit... Now to figure out how to put more than one cache in a gpx file...
  3. I tried resetting the factory settings, and taking the bateries out, neither worked. Now I've run out of standard fixes...
  4. I have been trying to download new caches to my oregon 200, and for the past couple weeks, it hasnt been working. I used to use the plug-in and click on "save to my GPS", but when that stopped working, I also tried saving the GPX file directly to my GPS, in the GPX folder. When I go through my computer and open the GPX folder, the GPX files for the new caches are saved in the GPX folder, but they don't show up on my GPS map??
  5. That is what I was wondering about, does each link use a different basemap? Would the googlemaps link be slightly more up to date?
  6. When searching for geocaches by city, postal code, coordinate, etc the list of all geocaches comes up, and there is an option to click on "Map It" or "Search for Geocaches with Google Maps". Are both of these links the same? Or is the "Map It" map slightly different from the Google Map?
  7. I got my new Oregon 200 in the mail a few days ago, and I used it for the first time yesterday!! For the most part, I find the operation to be very intuitive, which is nice, because the user guide leaves something to be desired... There are some things I can't figure out how to do: - In geocaching mode, once I have selected a cache to navigate to, how do I get the GPS to display the distance and direction to the cache? - After I have found a geocache, I enter a few notes to remind me about the find. How do I access these notes later when I am logging online? - When I look at my list of found caches, they don't seem to be in any logical order. How can I distinguish new finds from old finds? (for the purpose of logging online)
  8. Thanks for the info. The comparison link is great! The Oregon 200 from Costco comes loaded with the TOPO Canada map. Does anyone know how detailed this map is? Will it show residential roads or only major highways?
  9. I have been geocaching with a borrowed Etrex Vista, and the time has come to give it back... I am thinking about getting the Garmin Oregon 200 from Costco. I have been comparing the Oregon 200 to the Dakota 20, they seem very similar... Anyways, my question is, how do I go completely paperless with my new GPS? I really only cache in the city. I would like to be able to download a pocket query and use my GPS to figure out which roads to take to get to each cache. With the Etrex Vista, I have to manually enter the waypoints (I was never given the computer connection cord), print the cache page, and use the map on the print out to get close to the cache. There must be an easier way! If I download the Garmin City Navigator maps, will my pocket query caches be shown on the road map or the topo map?
  10. I hid my first cache a few weeks ago, and what I thought was a clever cache container has turned out not to be... I went to check on the cache and found that the log was damp. Is it okay to change the container (from a micro to a small) and rehide the cache? The new cache will be less than 1 meter away from the old cache. The cache is a puzzle cache and I will keep the puzzle the same (coordinates will also be the same). One person has already found this cache, so I will tape their log entry to the new log.
  11. In an urban environment, one person scaring a group of people would be pretty funny. Happens on hidden camera shows all the time... One person hiding in the bushes and scaring me would not be funny. Is it possible to be so scared you pass out?
  12. Is there a way to get a list of the people who have put my caches on their watchlists?
  13. Thanks for the advice. I'll send an email to the CO. I think the use of a 35 mm film container is justified here? The post that the cache is tied to (shown in picture on cache page) is an Alberta survey marker, an interesting geomatic landmark?? This area is frequented by ATVs, and I think that is why the CO changed the container from a small tupperware.
  14. The cache in question is here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...33-a34578a2cc27
  15. Hello, I am new to geocaching, but I think I have a pretty good understanding of the rules. There is a micro cache in my area that does not contain a log. The cache container is a 35 mm film cannister and the trade items are generally different types of coins. On the cache page, the CO says "given the small size of the cache, there is no log book. Please log your visit on-line." Is this allowed? What prevents people from logging this as a find without actually finding it?
