  1. That is all true, but up until I saw this, there was NO delormes on the canadian version of Amazon. so even if the -60 will not be available, I'm sure the others will be on June 1st. I've been looking for any Canadian retailers, so I just wanted to inform my fellow Canadians.
  2. I posted this in the Canadian Forum, so I decided to post it here too. Amazon.ca now has the whole Delorme lineup on their site, including the new PN-60 and the PN-60w with the SPOT communicator. The prices seem pretty comparable from what I have seen elsewhere: http://www.amazon.ca/DeLorme-Earthmate-Han...544&sr=1-86
  3. I am now officially a Canadian Cacher (first Cache found less than a week ago). I am from Brampton, ON.
  4. As a Noob, care to translate those acronyms, and say where they will be . Also I have seen that Amazon.ca has all the delormes coming in june! I have made my decision I am going PN-60. Seems like everything is coming together. Pretty reasonable price too. $399: http://www.amazon.ca/DeLorme-Earthmate-Han...544&sr=1-86
  5. I have already posted in the GPS forum but got no response, so I decided to try here. Any of you canadian cachers using a delorme? If so where did you get it? I see that GPSCity has the PN-60 but its almost a month and a half till it comes out and its out of my intended price range. I have not found any other listings of Canadian sellers selling the delorme. Do people not use it up here? I don't want a Garmin or a Lowrance because of the touch screen. I know they are both good units, I'm just trying to avoid the touchscreen feature for now. If forced, I will go one of those two routes, but I'm doing my due diligence first. Thanks in advance for the help.
  6. ^^^^ I 100% agree with you. but I am assuming (and maybe I'm wrong cause I am a noob) but geocaching is supposed to be inclusive. Saying "buy a hand held, its the only way to go" doesn't include somone who can't afford both. I understand the differences and the pitfalls of using a car GPS for caching, but it can be done. Its not the best way, but the best way is seldom the most accessible way. For you an extra $200 is no problem, for others, an etra $25 might break the bank. My post was really in response to the implication that car GPS is shifting geocaching to be about driving, instead of experiencing nature. And I was saying that I think it is about people being cheap/not having the money to experience both. Let me end off by saying I will be getting a handheld, but thats cause I can afford it. I heard about geocaching about 5 years ago, and am just starting now, because of not being able to afford it. So I can see both sides. I'm just advocating for encouraging anyone to participate anyway they can.
  7. Its totally a preferance thing. Big hands + Fat Fingers + a lack of fine motor skills = Hate of all things touch screen. Has nothing to do with the brightness. I just dont like them.
  8. I think you have missed the point. Most people put down $300+ on a GPS for their car. Most of these same people would like to avoid putting down another $300+ for a handheld. Even the OP was implying they they did not want to spend that extra cash. I personally think all of these questions have to do with keeping cost down, not driving from cache to cache. Its the same reason people are using an iPhone to cache. If I already have something that can do the job reasonable well, why double my costs? I understand that handelds do the job the best, but not eveyone has the money to shell out for one.
  9. YMMV? Still hoping to hear about any Canadian Delorme users. Or should I just give up and deal with the touch screen? Sorry if I am breaking any bumping rules.
  10. This seems like a good solution. What kind of GPSR did you buy? Guess I will have to bite the bullet and get data for my phone. I was looking at the PN-60 but I saw on amazon that it is not coming out until July. Not sure if I want to wait that long. I have seen no mention of new Garmins, I thought they just came out. Any links to some previews? Anyone in Canada (and Ontario Specifically) using a Delorme? Where did you get yours from? can you get turn by turn maps from gpsfilesdepot.com?
  11. I am a total noob and would like to enter the world that you all know and love. I do have a question, I will be primarily Geocaching urban areas (starting with Toronto). I will probably not be traveling to back country any time soon as my friends are all scaredy cats. I was wondering if there were any suggestions from people as to what GPSr's work better in the city (if there are any). Seems like the PN-40 and Oregon 450/550 are the standards right now. I have found the Oregon in Stores for a reasonable price in my area, does anyone know where to find Delormes in the Greater Toronto Area (I prefer a non touch screen, touch screens are my arch nemesis). The Lowrance's seem to be a good compromise (touch screen and buttons), I also like the size (looked at one in the store today) for those that own them, are they still as buggy as before or has the firmware been improved? As for price the best I've found for the Oregon 450 is $400. Anything around there would work for me. I'm not looking at the 550 because I will always have my phone with me, no need for the camera. One more thing, I do travel at least once, usually twice a year so I guess that will make a difference. But again, usually urban areas. Thanks for all your help in advance, I know I have a lot of questions, I've been lucky in that many of the other questions I had have been answered in the past few days!
