Currently I use a MeridianGold. As this is obsolete from Magellan I'm planning on replacing it. I too are interested in the Explorist XL as it is the only in the Explorist line that runs on AAA batteries. I use my GPS for caching, but also for my work in the military. On most profesional trips it is impossible to recharge battery packs, while AAA batteries are on unlimited supply. The larger size I is not really an issue for me and I want to stick to Magellan
