  1. Had exactly the same issue with my 450 recently. The cable that I normally use is permanently plugged into the back of my PC, then one day started playing up as you describe. Started of as an intermittent problem but eventually acted as you describe. Took my spare cable, plugged it into one of the ports on the front of the computer, problem gone.
  2. This happens every now and again on my Oregon 450 as well. What I do is to copy the caches to the SD card. If the caches do not load I can always remove the card, re boot the unit and shut it down again. Then re-insert the card and that will force the caches to reload. No way of doing this if you send them to the units internal storage only.
  3. I would be happy to adopt the cache, mail sent.
  4. Nice one Terunkie !! Great to see the hard work paying off.
  5. Thanks for the effort that went into this Anton, very much appreciated.
  6. Just another thought - the "Send to GPS" button on the cache page will probably not work as it needs Garmin Communicator to operate and there is no Android version available. I also tried the "GPX file" button as well - the file saved to the phone / tablet but would not open up on my GPS once I moved it across. However downloading a PQ, unzipping it and moving it to the GPS did work 100%.
  7. The USB-OTG cable is critical to the operation - I don't know whether you can hook up the phone and GPS without one. USB-OTG
  8. Another aferthought, the built in File Manager on my Note would not see the other USB drives, I had to use another one called ES File Explorer.
  9. I have managed to hook up USB devices including my Oregon 450 to my Galaxy Note II. You must connect things in the right order - GPS to USB adapter, then plug the adapter into the tablet. I take it you are using a Samsung USB OTG cable? Which version of Android is your tablet using? Also, how many batteries does your GPS run off?
  10. Also check the coords of your current location - selecting W instead of E for instance might have you in the middle of the ocean. Don't ask me how I know this........
  11. You are probably choosing a set of criteria that cancel one another out - "I have found" and "I have not found" will do this.
  12. Does your computer see your GPS ie can you see it in Windows Explorer? Which browser are you using, and have you installed Garmin Communicator? I assume that you are trying to use the "Send to GPS" feature on the cache page?
  13. Do you know which version of Android the new phone is running?
  14. Which phone did you have originally and what did you replace it with?
  15. I use a Nuvi 3760 to navigate to the cache site / parking and an Oregon 450 to search for the cache and mark it as found. As an addition / backup I have a Galaxy Note II with GDAK installed to read puzzle and lengthy Earthcache pages. It also works well for new caches that are published while out on the road. For this I use the Groundspeak app.

    Milestones

Thanks all - only 500 to go for the next milestone ..............
  17. I have been using this one to send caches to my Nuvi 3760 - NuviExport
  18. Just got Tagwriter on my Galaxy and when i go to create content is thows Contact, Bookmark, Plain text and SMS so how did you get it to write geolocaiton data. Open Tagwriter, hit the Menu Button, select Preferences. Under Version Management select Switch UI Mode. Then select Professional Edition (promotion) Hit done. Now when you select New there are more selections available - Geo location is one of them ....
  19. I had to play around with file explorers and unzip apps, they do not all work with zip files. Perhaps try a different file explorer - ES file explorer worked for me together with ES ZIP Viewer. The PQ I managed to unzip was downloaded from Groundspeak, not an e-mailed one.
  20. I was looking at those just last night - very interesting.
  21. So I Googled the issue, seems that the Nexus should support USB hosting and that Android 4.2 cripples it. As far as I can tell the Nexus 4 and 7 are one of the few devices that runs 4.2 Best info I could find on the issue - Nexus USB issue
  22. No access for me either - been like that for a few hours now ....
  23. Cool, thanks for the link. Pity that the Nexus has to be rooted in order to make it work as it is an affordable tablet. I would be hesitant to take that step owing to possible warranty issues. I wonder how many other tablets will work with OTG "out of the box" without requiring the device to be rooted?
  24. Make sure that whatever tablet you buy has USB hosting capabilities. As far as can remember the Note II came with a file unzip utility pre-installed, but yes you can unzip PQ's If you can hang on a bit I may be able to test out a Nexus 7 over the weekend, a friend of mine is an Android developer and he has several phones and tablets. I only have a Samsung OTG cable but will give it a go ..... We have an Xmas Geocaching event on Sun, I will see how many GPS units I can get my hands on to test.
