  1. There is a brand new Holiday Inn Express opening up in Lincoln, CA at the end of October 2007. It features Comp breakfast, Free Internet, Nice rooms, pool, etc. The area around it is loaded with restaurants, shopping and a lot of challenging caches ! Lincoln is just 6 miles south of GWS6. Rocklin, Roseville and Marysville feature a lot of decent motel/hotel options too but they are farther away. There are no hotels in Wheatland but there is a small B&B. Here is the link to HI Express in Lincoln, CA. See you there ! - 57tbird Edit: Forgot to mention to the OP; Go Packers !
  2. I kind of doubt it. Here is an article that suggests Apple is using its muscle to force AT&T to cripple the RIM Blackberry's GPS functionality so as to make it less attractive to Apples' iPhone.
  3. I have this cache that mandates the use of wifi. The biggest problem I have had are cachers that don't understand how to associate with an AP using WEP. But since the AP and web server are located in my house, its pretty easy to just walk out and give them a hand, as my office window faces the hotspot waypoint. BTW, this cache is located in Lincoln, CA, just a few miles south of the site of GeoWoodStock VI.
  4. Looks like the Galileo (EU GPS) System is in trouble and may end up as a subscriber (fee) only service: http://sidt.gpsworld.com/gpssidt/article/a...l.jsp?id=414299 The free service was to be accurate to 10cm (4 inches) 95% of the time with little degradation owing to clouds and the like. The commercial service aspect was to be even more precise. It would be managed under a civilian control structure, thus, Galileo would allegedly be out of the control of any government agency. If it does get built, it's going to be much later than originally planned. Some history of the Galileo project: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_positioning_system
  5. A week ago I came across my old R/C monster truck. It was originally used to deliver cold "refreshments" from the refrigerator to myself on hot summer days on the patio. But that's off topic for the purpose of this post. I got to thinking what a neat project it would be to interface a GPS'r to some electronics that would in turn control the servos of the truck thus turning it into self guided geocaching machine. Just pop in some coords and off it would go. With refinement, it may even be able to find a cache, open it and sign the log ! Just the thing for the lazy geocacher ! I even thought of a name for it: the "FTF-2007" I wondered though, had anyone done this already ? Oh, you betcha ! Researching, I ran across this which, in turn, led me to this. I thought the community might find it interesting. Cache on !
  6. /dev/null --> unix parlance for the old "round file" eg: mv somefile.txt /dev/null
  7. This one was a lot of fun --> GCR217
  8. Transervers Market Projection ? I believe the poster is asking about "Transverse Mercator Projection" or "Universal Transverse Mercator" (UTM). You can find a handy conversion page at: http://www.dmap.co.uk/ll2tm.htm or http://www.jeeep.com/details/coord/index.html As an alternative, your GPSr can do the conversion for you. Go to coord preferences and choose UTM, then add a waypoint using the coordinates you have. Be sure to choose the correct hemisphere when asked. (New Zealand = Southern Hemisphere) Then go back to preferences and select DMS, DD or whatever datum you prefer. The waypoint you entered in UTM is now displayed in the format of your choosing. For more information on UTM, see: http://www.dmap.co.uk/utmworld.htm
  9. I had to lose a few tendons out of my left knee...makes using a clutch somewhat painful. Geocaching seems to make it better. BTW 57chevy, I like your handle !
