  1. As of today 10/11/19 my travel bug "Starting Line" https://coord.info/TB48GKB (a stick with tape on it) is in the Netherlands after traveling 2,796,585 miles since 2012. I entered it into a travel bug race, and it's been racing since. A Flight Steward from Thailand picked it up, and being an avid geocacher and world traveler, he may have put me in Top Spot. Some time ago I contacted GC headquarters and they can't separate "virtual" from "ground miles" on the computer.
  2. Hold your hats folks. My most traveled is TB is Starting Line, the end of the "starting line" stick from car rally. Released 2/29/12 TB48GKB as of today 2752919.5 Miles This is an actual TB not a virtual. HQ says its in top 10, but haven't a good way to "scrub" virtual TB's from list.
  3. One of my TB's started in a TB race managed by a group in PA. Someone forgot to tell it when the race was over and last week passed the 2 million mile mark. See TB48GKB
  4. I entered a TB in a race in February 2012, and it won! and it keeps winning. It has logged over 890,000 miles as of 9/15/14. See TB48GKB Are there other TB's out there that are accomplishing the same results? Not counting TBs in orbit.
  5. I've been wrapping my mind around an artificial hornet nest. Probably have to be fiberglass or stronger to keep it from being a "muggle pinata". The bottom would twist off and cache would fall out, mounted on a branch near a creek. Another idea is a ammo box with sprind loaded "tail" I'm thinking black and white fur camoflage, and in a pile of logs so that when exposed, tail flips up. Maybe part of a heart stopper series. The wife says I'm too evil. Am I crossing a line?
  6. Doing garage sales last year we came across a picnic table loaded with gallon ziplocks loaded with assorted small toys (good ones, not McToys). The Lady didn't even know what geocaching was, and she was selling swag bags for two bucks a pop. Anymore the cache sizes are shrinking, so finding quality small swag is becoming a challenge
  7. We take our dog caching most of the time, and after our 300 finds, she has never found one, not even the ones with dog treats. Any dog trainers out there with hints.
  8. looking for a simple sun with a cartoon angel imposed on it.
  9. Went after a cache last week that still had no takers after three days. I made FTF, got home logged it and found a new cache popped up where I just was (7 miles off highway in woods) raced back out there and was second by three hours. Rural caching
  10. Have been moving TB's and coins for some time, but a couple questions come up. First, it seems a fair number of caches in my area show TB present, but there isn't one in cache (>50% missing). I understand it may have just been removed, but checking back several days after visiting cache, it's still shown in cache. Am I supposed to mark these items as missing? Also I try to trade TB's, but sometimes life gets in the way of caching and I don't think it's fair for me to hold the item until I can find another to trade. In that case I drop them at a Local Bug Hotel. Am I supposed to start another travel bug for future trades. I feel bad about just grabbing bugs without leaving one.
  11. We hit garage sales on Memorial Day Weekend and scored. One person even had small baggies with about 5 things in each, good stuff too. Old Mickey Mouse stuff, puzzles, old childrens toys. I asked if they were swag bags, and seller had never heard of geocaching. I bought five bags for 50 cents each. Another sale had a collection of really neat magnets, bought whole box for $2.00 After 6 sales had about a bushel of swag and spent about $15.00. Needless to say my new caches are loaded, and I have spare swag for other caches that are a little "light".
  12. Was asked by park manager to place caches in park, he just wanted a "General Area" Map showing where caches are placed. On the other hand in order to put one out behind the church, we had to attend two meetings a month apart. Deacons last month said OK. Trustees to do an "environmental impact statement" tomorrow night, will let you know. Get permission so your players don't catch "heat" Generally, make sure you introduce your law enforcement officials to the Game. Most people remember CSI did an episode.
  13. luckily most soda bottles are clear, be cautious if foil and a liquid appear in there. Kick and run, watch show from safe spot.
  14. We've found a few CITO swag containers (film canisters) with a small garbage bag inside. Does anyone have a copy of the label so we can set them out also?
  15. when we first started we thought all caches had to be on a trail, with an obvious parking spot nearby. And these features are good "force" clues, but have since found many wonderful caches with no trails. On a side note looking for a cache by a Park-n-ride, the geotrail was so obvious muggles found it. The cache was busted open and swag strewn about by the parking lot .
  16. Found a nice explorer, put an ORV sticker (current, for back woods w/o problems from CO) extra cig lighters for charging iphone, GPS, and Ham handheld radio. Then to top it off I won a set of Nokian racing snow tires (130MPH) that whisk me through the mud, ahem...
  17. We were recently asked to place some caches in a local park (by the park people). I've been looking for procedure process. I'm up to speed what, where, and why, but missing the How. Do we place the caches, get coordinates, then submit for a GC?, then wait until published, then go back and fill out label on cache? Or previsit the site, get coordinates, submit site, then wait until published, then label and place the cache. Any ideas welcome. Also no luck on finding geocache welcome note (the one for muggles that find the cache) on-line or the little CITO labels for film canisters.
