  1. I just want to be able to look at a cache page and write the coordinates down on a piece of paper? No, wait! Not really. By my count I am the one out of a million who likes the new maps. I don't even understand what most of you are talking about I like that I can pan in and out on a map area WITHOUT it being cluttered with the green slime of oversaturation. Sometimes I couldn't even tell what town I was near because the names were obliterated with green dots. Now when I find the area I am looking for I click on "search this area" and there is everything I need. So I guess I'm not doing it right, but it's working...
  2. I don't even know the difference between "browse" and "search" maps. I just noticed that one day I had to refresh the map to see caches in a new area. At first I thought this was annoying, remembering the long ago days when the maps were static and you could only scroll a short distance down the road. But after I thought about it I realized, THIS IS GREAT! One of my biggest complaints over the past several years is that many areas are so saturated now than if you pan out very far the map is such a mass of green slime that you can't even see what town you are near. Now you can scan around the map first and then see the caches only when you know you are looking at the area you want to search. Now I love this feature! So much better now that I understand how to use it.
  3. Another solution, perhaps extreme, is to make a bookmark page with a title "caches more than 40 feet from listed coordinates" and list the corrected coordinates, or "caches with DNF's deleted" or something like that. Bookmark lists cannot be deleted by the cache owner.
  4. thanks for the tips I'll check that
  5. I found out by accident that I was no longer getting emails when someone logged one of my caches. I wondered why no one was finding my caches anymore when I went to my listed hides and saw that there were a LOT of logs that I had not been notified about. A quick look at my home page didn't reveal anything so I thought it would be faster to ask here. Thanks for your help! (And any thoughts on why this feature just stopped working?)
  6. Am I the only one who thought this was funny? I vote for the temporary ground clearing explanation. I saw a pitch on Shark Tank where this guy was trying to start up a business RENTING goats to people to clear areas of brush. None of the sharks went for it, but it seemed like a great idea.
  7. Yes, I've seen this happen before. It seems like that is a common reaction. I had a cache once that was found by someone's dog. He took it home and then looked on the website and then returned it. I moved it to a spot that was a little less "dog friendly"!
  8. Be aware that if you drop a trackable into a cache before it is published, someone can find the cache by locating the trackable.
  9. OK. is it time for favorite disclaimer stories yet? here's mine: A man took the handle off his lawnmower and tried to use it as a hedge trimmer. He dropped it and cut off his foot. He sued the company because there was no warning against taking off the handle and using it as a hedge trimmer! (One of the reasons mowers now have automatic shutoffs. It wasn't always that way) And as anyone living in a sunshine state knows: those windshield shades all have some variation of this warning: "Don't use while operating vehicle."
  10. Ballard district, Seattle Washington. HQ Tour has some of the coolest urban caches, and everyone in town seems to be in on the secret. moving out from there, there are lots of caches to keep you busy for as long as you are there.
  11. Me too. I've been geocaching since 1959, I just didn't know what it was called.
  12. I think my DNF rate is about the same as ever. I miss some easy ones, look for some missing ones, and give up more quickly if I get bored looking for something. OTOH, my finding skills have improved from the early years.
  13. I have always been able to find a stick or a small stone with a sharp edge and mix up a little mud and scratch my "H" onto the log sheet.
  14. I know, right? But it does happen. Seems like there should be a way to only show first and last log from any individual name.
  15. I would pay for an app that did this: condense logs by one cacher to where they picked it up and where they dropped it off. Part of what I used to love about the TB part of the game was following a TB's travels. The hundreds of "took it to" logs have just about ruined that. Any way to do that?
  16. Wow... I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition... For the record, I've been supporting GS for nearly 14 years, as a premium member and buyer of goods, so there's no way I'm making a "big company bad" statement. Regarding the two points that you seem so outraged about: 1. I believe that through rule changes and advertising "the company" is targeting a demographic that they want to attract to the game. I believe that many in this group are more likely to hide one type of cache than another. I'm not faulting GS for this, I'm just working a little harder to explain my point, as you requested. 2. C'mon, Man!!! You don't think that COs place caches with a certain type of finder in mind? Three obvious examples: Cache pages that say something about fun for families. Cache pages that say they are placed to help powercachers build up their totals, remote caches where the cache page says they are placed for people who like to hike.
  17. no, I was referring to company target demographics. I understand that not everyone will agree. Actually some COs definitely do have target demographics, which can vary greatly, but that's another topic maybe
  18. i think that families are not the target demographic anymore. The target is a young male who wants to show you his big number.
  19. That song is ALWAYS playing on the radio!
  20. I don't like Tupperware or Rubbermaid. Anything that doesn't have snaps to lock it will begin leaking fairly soon. I like lock&lock and "Snap Lock" sold at Costco. There's also a brand sold at Ocean 5 Job Lots in New England that I can't remember the name of. I've had Lock&Lock and Snap Lock containers that last for many years. Eventually the tabs start breaking off.

  22. I've never been bannanated or suspended. I've been warned, and I was told exactly why. Although I didn't agree with the reasoning, it was clear. Some folks do come to the forums to complain about suspensions and bans and I always find the conversations entertaining. As for you thinking your childish antic was not sufficient grounds for being banned, all I can say is, "is too." (OK I promise I'll stop now... but that there was funny...)
  23. OK good... now, how do you change someone else's PMO to regular?
  24. extremely unlikely to the point of being unbelievable. Oh, I can believe a banned user SAID they were not given any explanation...
